The garden seems so quiet. A calming kind of quiet that's escaped her all this while. A reassuring kind of quiet that's only brought about by the presence of a Luxray. And he lifts his head up from the ground when his name is called, a worried gaze in his eyes as he watches her all too closely.[break][break]

Waking up had been terrifying. That quiet sense of dread creeping upon her as her eyes adjusted to the dim light, that small cry of panic when she so much as felt she couldn't breathe properly, that muffled scream in the back of her mind when she'd gotten trapped in her own blanket. Despite it all, she had somehow made it through the morning.[break][break]

A paw rests upon her hand: Gently, prefaced with a soft growl to let her know. Despite it all, he will always be there. And he moves a little closer, nudging his head into her arms.[break][break]

Eris Halla sits in the garden with Reiner. Inside, there is a pulse of psychic pressure. It's quick, pops and releases. Footsteps tread but make so sound.[break][break]

Cabinets creak as they open, the gentle clink of plates and glasses. A basket unloaded with containers of rich smelling and hearty food.[break][break]

Chu-e looks down at it with trepidation. Even now, he's too much of a coward to face her. But she needs someone, doesn't she? Isaac Merlo isn't here and the Navy is busy with whatever howard slayte is scheming; Chu-e couldn't guess what, but he was a spy for a reason. The technologically inept fool was lucky that Chu-e hated data breaches and minded his business.[break][break]

Lost in thought, he pauses in ladling a creamy sauce on tender roast. A bed of fluffy rice. It still steams, spicy and warm and fresh. It's the first thing he's bothered to cook in months.[break][break]

Intent was to leave the gift and leave before she saw. A ghost he should be, dead in all ways but physical, haunting the narrative of a girl who had hurt too much in her short life. This is a pain for her more than a comfort.[break][break]

But Chu-e Choi was never good at leaving well enough alone.

[attr="class","eris109"] That unsettling weight of a gaze sits upon her shoulders, makes her wonder if Mesprit must be watching over her. No, if anything, Mesprit possesses far louder of a presence.[break][break]

Perhaps, it's paranoia. She had been battered by many, many waves of it just hours prior. It wouldn't be a surprise if she was simply feeling the remnants lurking in her system.[break][break]

The warmth of the sun is nice. The breeze tangled in her hair makes her appreciate her freedom all the more. With Reiner by her side, nothing will go wrong.[break][break]

She tenses, awkwardly shifting her body not to disturb Reiner as she gets to her feet. He immediately jumps up, eyes still focused on her as he readies to follow.[break][break]

"Sorry, just..."[break][break]

His frown makes her hesitate.[break][break]

"There's some juice in the fridge, right?"[break][break]

That raise of his brow lets her know that she isn't fooling him, but he nods anyways. Then, he wraps his tail around her hand, gently tugging her along.[break][break]

A smell wafts through a slightly opened door: Tasty, familiar. Makes her feel rather hungry. Come to think of it, she wasn't able to stomach anything for breakfast earlier.[break][break]

"Isaac?"[break][break]

Had he come home to make lunch? Why hadn't he called out to her then? Was he hoping to surprise her? Or maybe one of the pokemon had prepared some food for them?[break][break]

A few steps more will lead her to the kitchen, and she can't help but peek around the doorway to find -[break][break]

She's almost tempted to take another to ensure it's not a hallucination. But if it isn't... if she blinks and he ends up disappearing... Her eye darts to the ladle in his hand, the plate that lays unfinished.[break][break]

He freezes in place. Eris Halla would see the human approximation of a deer, about to bolt. As if the small teenage girl was tantamount to a hungry lion. The seven stages of grief passes over his face all at once, in order, before he finally looks away.[break][break]

A weak hand finishes plating the meal.[break][break]

"Beef-Coconut curry."[break][break]

He places the ladle in the sink, it hadn't been his, and places a fork and spoon on the plate. They settle with a quiet 'clink', then the grind of the plate sliding on the counter. Towards Eris.[break][break]

Chu-e takes a careful step back and away.[break][break]

Distance.[break][break]

"Are you okay?"[break][break]

[attr="class","eris109"]For a moment, she is a hungry lion. All ready to pounce should Chu-e make even the slightest movement to bolt. But he doesn't. And she simply waits.[break][break]

"Ooo, that sounds good."[break][break]

Reiner leads the way in, seemingly oblivious to the atmosphere that the two have woven. In this very moment, the only one he listens to is his stomach and he will not be denied that sniff of wonderful, freshly-cooked food. Eris follows suit, glancing over the food for a moment before carefully shuffling her way around the kitchen, all the way to the sink.[break][break]

Are you okay?[break][break]

"Mmm..."[break][break]

Running water fills the gaps of conversations, soothes the many little cuts on her palms that burn with the memory. There is so much she could tell him, but would any of it help to reassure him? His presence itself is an unexpected but welcome comfort. She really wishes nothing more than to throw herself at him for a hug, have him hug her back, pat her head and tell her that everything's alright. But he's keeping his distance.[break][break]

And for once, she's scared to cross that boundary. To close that gap.[break][break]

The pause is pregnant and awkward. Chu-e looks away as she washes her hands, pretends he doesn't see the little nicks and bruises on Eris Halla's skin. It would fill him with some type of fury, but later. Later, when he has someone to take it out on.[break][break]

"You were missing. With the other people who got taken."[break][break]

It's hard to be the one to try and reach out. Especially when Chu-e had worked so, so hard to make that gap in the first place.[break][break]

You're only hurting her, being this close. Was whispered in his ears, some deceitful little voice burning inside his chest.
