"Parker told me you like these guys!" Nomi exclaimed jovially, taking out two Pokeballs. Onto the lab table she released her Meltan duo, Malus and Mercury. A pair of tiny eyeballs stared up at Shred with curious expressions.[break][break]
She had asked the Beast to visit her labs a few days following their ordeal in the toxic prison. She wanted to take a look at that strange mark of his, figure out how it worked, but there was another motive, hidden beneath the drive for scientific discovery.[break][break]
Shred had been the last Rocket to have a meaningful conversation with Velmos before his death, and she had some questions for him about the Megalopolians they had left behind in Ultra Space.[break][break]
"Anyway, do you mind taking off your shirt? And er, some of the bandages?"[break][break]
She beamed at him like the primal sunlight he was apparently capable of summoning.

Two Meltan?

Holy shit.

As you struggle to restrain your sheer joy at the sight of two of your favorite creature, they're quickly joined by a third. Out from your jacket pocket emerges yet another, your own Meltan, who similarly shares your delight, though with none of the restraint. With a hop, a skip, and a jump, the nut plops down on the desk, and rushes to meet his kindred.

"hello new friends (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ my name is meltan and im on a quest to become the strongest meltan! its lovely to meet you (￣ω￣) how are things back in meltan village?"

This is beautiful. You could watch this for hours.

Alas.

"Huh?" You're snapped out of your euphoria and brought back to reality by Nomi's question. Take off your shirt? "Sure, alright..."

And so, you begin the frankly awful process of undressing with one arm. Luckily, it doesn't take long for you to shed your jacket, but your shirt? That's a struggle. You've halfway-squirmed the garment off your body before a crtiically important thought comes to mind:

"...This, uh, isn't going to make your girlfriend mad, is it?"

The two Meltan danced happily around the new Meltan, their little arms flailing about as they greeted their kin.[break][break]
Hi Meltan! We're also Meltan! Well, she calls us Mercury and Malus. But you can call us Meltan![break][break]
At least, that's what it seemed like they were saying. The Visionary was somewhat preoccupied.[break][break]
"Hm, the innate quality of your physiology seems unchanged. Well, er, relatively speaking."[break][break]
He'd been beaten within an inch of his life in the prison, and he had the bruises to show for it.[break][break]
She circled around him like he was more fascinating specimen than man - which, of course, he was - her face scrunched up with the sort of deep-thinking focus one might expect from a seasoned scientist. When she spied the glistening burn, however - shiny like new skin but still oddly raw - her face lit up with visible excitement. She grabbed his arm with an enthusiastic tug, any concern for his beat-up state forgotten in the wake of an imminent breakthrough.[break][break]
"Aha! There's the mark!" She poked at it gently with her finger. "Does it hurt?"[break][break]
It was at that moment that her brain registered the comment he'd made.[break][break]
"Nah, don't worry about Parker - she trusts me," Nomi assured him, half-distracted by his divine brand. "And anyway, she thinks you need more experience being around cute girls."

"wow (⌒ω⌒) this really is meltan day!

You're not sure what Meltan Day is. You assume it's as simple as it sounds, in that its any particular day with one or more Meltan in it. Whatever the case may be, that's not the mystery you're here to solve. The deep lore of Meltankind can wait until you've figured out what's going on with the funky metal in your body.

Which, unfortunately, is a more physically intensive process that you'd like. As Nomi pulls on your arm, you flinch as burnt, bruised skin begins to peel and break and flake and hurt. Compared to that? The poking is just icing on the cake. Sore icing on a very painful cake.

"GAH, FUCKER!" You yank your arm out of her grip, pulling it towards your body. "Ghhhhh... I only have one of these things left, y'know! The least you could do is be careful with it...!"

...Well, really, the least she could do is be careful with your arm and also be shirtless, but you're not going to push your luck on that one.

Nomi jerked back when he jerked back, and Meltan Day was momentarily interrupted by Shred's howl of pain.[break][break]
"I'm sorry!" Nomi held up her hands in surrender. "I won't touch it anymore. It hurts that much, does it?"[break][break]
It looked like it hurt. The skin was raw, blackened like a burn, and peeling away in large, flaky chunks. It was, all things considered, gross.[break][break]
"Let's try a different approach," she decided. Rummaging around in a desk drawer, she pulled out a notebook and pen, flipped to the first blank page, then readied herself for copious note-taking.[break][break]
"What can you do, now that you've been marked? How does it make you feel? Not physically, per se. Mentally and emotionally. Do you..." - she considered the right words, tapping pen against paper - "...do you feel connected to anything? Like, some other entity?"[break][break]
She couldn't say for sure, but things like this - they didn't just happen. Usually, legendary Pokemon were the perpetrators of humans suddenly having strange, inexplicable powers.
