Keldeo's capture was a welcomed victory, but one that came with difficulties. Maintenance was on the higher end of the spectrum, as noted by the heavy requirements of care.

"Hello," she cooed, an unfamiliar warmth cuddling in its tone. She unlocked the gate and made her way through the hay stacks and leftover pals of water. Her steps only stopped when a figure approached, coming from the back.

Greyson had taken to the colt, inspired by its story, and seeing a piece of himself in the Mythical Pokemon. It too seemed to be suffering from some level of imposter syndrome, and for that, he had Greyson's sympathy.

Penelope's voice startles him and forces him to his feet fully, knees cracking under the strain, and he rounds the corner with an equally curious Keldeo. The warmth in her voice was something he had not heard in a long, long time.

"Penny?"

Disappointment shone deep in her eyes. What was supposed to be a relaxing trip had dissolved into a clash of past relationships, Greyson representing the girl she'd all but smothered months ago when ollie morales's blood was still fresh on her hands.

Frowning, she turned toward the nearby pail of water still hugging the stable's entrance, and made way for it. Keldeo's answer held no power - she needed the brief reprieve of retrieving the pail one way or another and this seemed to be the simplest solution on hand.

Yeah, disappointment. He doesn't try to let it get to him as their checkered past made things complicated, or, perhaps, she simply wanted alone time with a cute Pokémon.

"I just came to check on Keldeo." He gives the Mythical a glance before turning to watch her make her way to the nearby wall. "Wasn't sure if he would be lonely out here."

He was still gauging whether or not he should leave, but offers a question of his own.

Or lonely, or bored, or one of the many different emotions that she ignored within herself. Unfortunately, as she could see, there were no kindred spirits here. Just an occupied mythical enjoying the benefits of multiple sets of hands.

Stopping at the wall, her hands took hold of the pail's handle. She silently seethed out in pain as the wire nearly cut into her palm, drawing blood. The additional weight of the water gave it just enough power to hurt her without scarring. In many ways, it reminded her of the stacks of paper still left at her desk. There were never any noticeable marks after hours' worth of work, but she always felt the effects, its impression as vivid as any broken bone.

Between puffs of exhaustion, as she carried the pail back to the horse, the councilwoman huffed out, "I've been wanting to make more time to visit legendaries we hold contact with. It feels like a waste not to."

It was a strangely human gesture, and two years ago, he would've thought nothing of it. Now? It was like watching a case-study unfold.

He tilts his head towards the pale out now, even if she couldn't really see it.

"Well, Keldeo is out of water..." Greyson lets the words hang, curious of her reaction.

"I understand the sentiment." They had literal Pokemon of Legends in their custody, and beneath their protection—why wouldn't you visit them? "I've been doing the same."

A sigh set her shoulders down. It'll be a pain in the ass carrying this out the stable, pouring it out, then finding a clean pail to fill to the brim. Unless...

"Uh—" He stutters but quickly recovers. "—Yeah, sure."

He crosses the distance with a casual gait, Keldeo remaining where it was, head tilting. With one hand, Greyson takes the bucket and begins his trek outside.

He pointedly says nothing to the Mythical who, upon Greyson's departure, was staring up at Penelope with a small measure of confusion.

He wasn't talking to Penny the Councilwoman, but the woman he'd once called a friend. Why couldn't they still be?

"Mm." He chews on the answer. "A couple of times a week. I make the rounds between all of them, but tend to ere on the side of caution. I don't want them to become too attached."

The sound of hooves–or lack thereof–clues him into the Mythical's confusion.

"Can you call Keldeo? Its a bit skittish to leave the barn sometimes."

Never faltering in his steps.

His answer was no different than what she expected. This was Greyson Connors, the champion of fallarbor, and soon maybe, the region. He was the guy she recorded walking through town, proclaiming his intent to protect. He was the guy she always caught attending those damn shrines and cleaning them, because Arceus knows they'd grow of briar and blight otherwise.

In some ways, it was off-putting. It made her reconsider herself, questioning why her heart couldn't beat to the same rhythm. Why her natural instinct was to envy his kindness rather than applaud it.

"Oh, yeah," she looked back at the mythical horse. Had it not been for his loud hooves, she would've forgotten him entirely. "Sure."

She stopped, turned around, and smiled, gesturing for the pokemon to follow. "Keldeo," she cooed lovingly. "Why don't you follow us outside? We're just trying to get you some more water."

At first, the pokemon seemed hesitant. But then it smacked its lips, and thirst triumphed over caution. So it walked over, slow and curious, leaning closer towards the side Greyson Connors kept at.

Her silent ruminations are lost on him. Greyson was in the moment; nothing could take him from that.\

He smiles at the small colt as it trots alongside.

"It does seem that way doesn't it?" He shifts the pail to a different hand. "That just might be who Keldeo is, though. He's got an extremely kind heart—the kind of child-like youth that's infectious, y'know?"

Perking up, Keldeo is smart enough to know when he's being talked about. Yet, he doesn't seem to mind.

"There's a little nook in the corner of the barn that I've set up with just enough room and comfort to sit and work on a laptop. You should check it out next time when you're trying to get away for a bit."

He shares her pessimism but doesn't want to let on. His work was more physical but no less demanding and without a reprieve he would've broken.

Tension needed to be managed or mitigated lest even the most durable could break beneath a constant strain.

"That's the best time then." He pours out the bucket into a nearby waste area and proceeds to wash out the remnants with a nearby hose.

"The world's going to fall apart no matter what we do—not that I'm saying give up—but that doesn't mean need to fall apart alongside it."

Looking to Keldeo he nudges his head to the tub.

"A little help?"
