Inaya was tired. She had spent the better part of the evening reading about poisons, and her enthusiasm for the day was nonexistent.

It was by chance that she ended up in the Petalburg Woods, really. She chalks it up to her subconscious, forcing its will on her in her waking hours; it steered her to a place crawling with poison-types, a given for her current focus.

She chews her lip. She'd be damned to waste a chance to catch some Poison-types to study, even if catching pokemon was the last thing on her mind. It's early enough in the day that there shouldn't be any *nuisances*, she wagers.

Having made up her mind, Inaya crouches. The leaves of a bush pricks her back as she settles into her hiding spot. Her eyebrows knit in annoyance, but she holds her pose. Lalu, her espeon, sits a few meters away in the clearing, munching on a berry.

A much rehearsed ploy, the two hope to draw in an unsuspecting pokemon, one naively curious about Lalu's meal.

Inaya Toussaint 's desire for a Pokémon would be met, but not an unsuspecting one. A loud, distinct buzzing noise echoed from the north. Those who knew what it was may have been inclined to retreat and leave the forest, for its source was one of the strongest and most dangerous forest predators. Were Inaya to remain where she was, she would get a good look at its source: a blue-eyed Beedrill whose exoskeleton was a bright emerald color instead of a golden yellow one.

While it was not coming at her head-on, that didn't make the giant insect any less terrifying. Were she to further observe the hunter with outstretched foreleg stings, she would notice a lithe girl sitting between its nearly invisible wings. Her face may have been familiar, too...

Before Inaya hears it, Lalu's twin tails twitch and his fur ripples with an uncomfortable intensity. His sensation and its violent effect on him concerns her. She stiffens, waiting for his premonition to arrive: a wild pokemon, or something else. Given his reaction, she was leaning on the something else.

The droning sounded like a thousand wings beating in sync, something so out of place in the compact depths of the woods. Whatever it was, it was coming her way. And, whatever it was, surely scared off all the wild pokemon in a 15km- radius.

"Oh for fu--"

Her irritation peeked, she stands up from her concealment, glaring at the shiny beedrill with pure animosity as it comes barrelling through the canopy. Lalu returns to her side, hissing at the deafening thrumming from its wings. She notices a lithe figure on its back.

Only then does it dawn on her: there were only so many gigantic shiny beedrill in the world, and there was only one person that Inaya knew who was stupid enough to ride one: Shalin Nariya . And if Shalin and her pokemon were destroying her chances, Inaya would do the same to the hunter - by yelling after her.

"It's you, Shailin" she scoffs as she shouts, purposely corrupting her name. "Do you just zip all over Hoenn just to piss people off?"

Inaya's shouting was just barely audible over Queen Zing's droning wings. The Captain wheeled the Beedrill around, her mount sensing hostility and vibrating furiously even after landing, causing her hair to stand on end. "Easy, girl!" she reined the insect in, the Beedrill's wings at rest afterward.

"My name's got one I in it, not two!" the Ranger defended herself. "You're actually close to my Pokémon sanctuary. You look familiar, but I can't remember your name..."

Before she could ask for it, the cry of a Venonat caught her attention. Out of all the giant insects, she didn't have a Venomoth, and this one looked like a big girl. "Savanna!" Shalin called out her Zeraora's name, the electric feline on all fours as she emerged from the Poké Ball presented to her during Vital City. "QUICK ATTACK!" In the instant that the bug-type mustered its mind to bat the Zeraora away with CONFUSION, the yellow feline was already on top of it, raking violently with her claws. Her saddle, much like the Beedrill's, would be prominently visible as her Great Ball sailed through the air toward the wild.

Just how monstrous were Shalin's skills with ride Pokémon?

While the Beedrill's displeasure was palpable, it did nothing to assuage Inaya's annoyance. "Calm down, bug," she scoffs at the Beedrill. "I'm not looking for a pokemon battle."

Turning back to the human, she waves her hands. "Whatever," she hisses, the bangles on her wrist jingling as she gestures. "I'm not in the pokemon sanctuary, and neither are you. Maybe you should just fly back to your little sanctuary and leave me in peace."

Inaya turns and heads into the brambles, Lalu following. This conversation was dead, as far as she was concerned. But when Shalin says she doesn't recall Inaya's name, the fortune-teller stops. If she could bristle like Lalu could, she would have; she narrows her eyes instead. Then, her face falls into a neutral expression. "I see," she says.

She doesn't flinch at the sudden appearance of the Venonat, and she watches wordlessly as Shalin sends a pokemon at it. Inaya's eyebrows raised at the sight of her Zeraora; but otherwise, her countenance remains blank.

A Bellossom cries out, and Inaya hesitates. Making up her mind to stick around and make something of this encounter, she points a manicured finger at it. "Lalu, use Charm!" The sun pokemon's move hits, and the Bellossom is momentarily dazed. Inaya tosses a PokeBall at it, hoping to catch it.

The Sygna Suited girl, looking like a Flygon in her getup, slid down the Beedrill's wing to dismount from her Pokémon, glowing a faint green while she was in contact with it. "I didn't mean to spook you! I'm sorry!" Shalin apologized. "Normally, Queen Zing's not like that! She's usually the sweetest Beedrill you'll ever meet." Just what had gotten into her?

Shalin was interrupted by the sound of Savanna going at it with a Heracross whose wings clicked loudly, in a vain effort to gore the yellow feline with its long horn. Turning her attention to the sudden battle, her eyes lit up. "Ooh, a Heracross! I don't have one of those yet, and he's a big boy, too!" Had a Distortion recently faded near the Sanctuary? There were so many oversized bugs around that it left her mystified. She wasn't going to say no, though!

After faking the Heracross out, Savanna lunged toward it, pinning the fighting-type beneath its PLASMA PAWS. Spreading its wings, the wild clicked them harshly and loudly, trying to dislodge the Zeraora through low-pitched yet still ear-piercing vibrations. Her suit protected her against sonic attacks some, but Inaya might not be able to hear too well. She silenced the wild with a Poké Ball.

"A sweet Beedrill, huh?" she remarks, glaring at the defensive pokemon. Right.

The battle sounds are sudden and harsh. Inaya slams her hands over her ears, her face pinching into a grimace. The high-pitched frequency of the bug pokemon feels like a plunge in an ice bath. Lalu cries out, his forepaws flying up to pin his large ears to the ground in a desperate push for relief. Inaya's heart fills with pity for her Espeon - he must be feeling the piercing frequency far worse than she, given his large ears and his natural weakness to bug-type pokemon. It didn't help that this was a very large Heracross, either.

A wild pansage pops out of the brush, but immediately retreats. Inaya wishes she could do the same. Instead, she turns her eyes toward the pokemon battle, a furious scowl creasing her face. And this is why I don't care for bug-types, she internally rues.

The sonic bombardment stops as the Heracross disappears into a pokeball. The pokeball with the Bellossom lies a few feet away, nearly forgotten, and Inaya snatches it up with a huff.

Pocketing the catch, she rubs her ears with the heel of her hand. "You must *really* love bug-types to not want to claw your own ears off every time they do *that*," she spits.

The purple-haired lady didn't seem too thrilled about Shalin's bug-type mount, clearly displeased with the jarring clicking and droning noises their wings made. "Bug Pokémon give excellent massages, though!" Shalin replied with a smile. To almost anyone else, though, the massages wouldn't be relaxing; vibration that fast and strong could easily have been numbing. "It's less bug-type Pokémon and more Pokémon no one else would dare to ride on!" That included plenty of Pokémon not truly meant for it, though it didn't matter to her. She had her own definition of what a ride Pokémon was... one that would make her peers question whether she had her head on straight.

Shalin cupped her hand over her mouth briefly before removing it from her face. "Your face looks familiar, but I can't quite put a name to it..." she trailed off, trying to remember who Inaya was. It didn't seem to come to her any time soon.

"Massages?!" she echoes, bringing her manicured hand to her forehead. Inaya's voice cracks in the heightened pitch, and she stares at the strange woman and her beedrill. "That Beedrill could crush someone, I can't imagine that massage is relaxing!"

Obviously, Inaya reasons Shalin is insane. Riding pokemon seemed far too unpleasant, bug pokemon or otherwise, and Inaya would much rather spend her time among the trappings of convenience and comfort - as would her Lalu.

A smug smile cracks the woman's lips. This wild, pokemon-riding girl and her gigantic bug pokemon deserve each other. Her smirk slips, however, when she remembers what she was doing out in the woods in the first place.

Shalin's lack of recollection irks Inaya, but she acquiesces. "I'm Inaya," she huffs. "We met once before. Under similar circumstances," she scoffs.

Inaya wasn't wrong; she was a bit of a maniac, perhaps having become a bit too used to the protection her Sygna Suit granted her. Her smile grew, both at the purple-haired traveler's reaction and her voice cracking. Not wanting to argue with Inaya anymore, Shalin simply let her argument go, watching Savanna chase after a wild Ninjask fleeing the electric-type. Even in a blistering fast QUICK ATTACK, the quadrupedal feline couldn't keep up with it.

"Right, Inaya!" Shalin chirped, having an aha moment. "I just couldn't put the name to the face."
