AN INTRUSION OF THIS LEVEL isn’t unexpected. peneleope is not the first to barge into his office, nor will she be the last. but, if she expects her presence to demand something more than the mundane reaction of fernando typing away at his keyboard, with his eye glued to the screen, she’s sorely mistaken.

“bit early in the day to be this frazzled, no?”

the innate urge to smirk is swallowed by a grim frown. what was once a chalice gloating in its own prosperity has now run dry. caked on its rim is a reservation that exists only for one person.

“glass cabinet, left shelf.”

for such a frequent drinker, fernando’s collection is hardly touched. the social aspect of being out is half the appeal. what lies ready for penelope is fine vintage sealed well from before when she was born.

The snide remark rolled off her shoulders, barely grazing her backside as she reached for the left shelf. It was loosely occupied; only the best being kept. Her finger first dragged along the labels, as though a decision needed to be made.
