Ever since their last meeting, Noel had visited Aurelie time and time again, bringing her new materials and watching as each attempt got them closer and closer to their desired result. And ever since then, Noel has toiled away, doing odd jobs here and there in order to procure these materials and in order to make back the money used for this endeavor.[break][break]

On one such day, he had been helping out as a helping hand in a local farmhouse. It was hard work, but the thought of being able to help Aurelie even further motivated him, keeping him strong and resolute during these times. Plus his Shaymin knew a thing or two that eased his burden. Suddenly his phone begins to ring, surprising him, as he rarely uses the thing, and flips his phone open, reading a message Aurelie had sent to him.[break][break]

It was time. She had something planned that needed his immediate attention. In his excitement, he drops whatever he was doing and rushes to the shop. He'd have to apologize to his employer at a later time. Right now, there was but one thing on his mind.[break][break]

Practically swinging the door wide open, his breath is ragged, completely exhausted from the run. Right behind him was his partner, tired, if not even more than him, as its tiny legs had trouble keeping up with its trainer.[break][break]

"Aurelie... Are you here?... I got your message and... is it true?... Have you found a way?"[break][break]

Each break in his sentences was accompanied by attempts to catch his breath. In all his haste, he didn't realize how he would look to the blacksmith, face completely flushed and gasping as if he had run out of air.

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]For once, when a customer arrived at the shop looking for her and requesting her services, Aurelie was ready at the front desk to greet them. Of course, it probably helped that she'd been the one to contact Noel and request this meeting. After all, she was nearly as excited as he was to see if Pokemon armor could be made practical and useful.

So, when he burst breathlessly through the door, with his Shaymin trudging determinedly a few steps behind, she grinned and waved hello. "Noel! Hi! Welcome back!"

Then, Aurelie took a second look at him and blinked in surprise. "Are...are you okay? How fast did you get over here? Do you...do you need a moment to recover? A drink of water, maybe?"

At his final question, though, the red-haired smith beamed broadly. "Well, I don't know if this qualifies as 'finding a way', but I did make several suits of armor for your Shaymin! Hey buddy," she added, smiling softly at the hedgehog-like Pokemon staggering tiredly forward.

Aurelie indicated the small, seemingly random stacks of metal piled beside her on the counter. "I got a little...over-enthusiastic, maybe. I know we discussed lamellar or scale armor, but then I thought...why limit ourselves? Why not try as many options as we can and really explore all the possible ideas?

"So, first..." She reached for the first stack and held it up to the light for inspection.

It turned out to be a miniature suit of full plate armor, like the sort popularly associated with medieval knights, with a cuirass, faulds, pauldrons for the joints, and even little greaves for the Shaymin's legs. Tiny mesh straps dangled from each piece, looking rather cumbersome to buckle and cinch together.

"This ought to offer great protection, but it might be a little heavy and awkward to wear." Still holding the armor, the red-haired smith motioned for both Noel and the Shaymin to come closer. "But the only way to know for sure is to try it on, right?

"I can help you get the plate armor onto your partner here, and then it could walk around a bit and see how it feels." Then, Aurelie paused and hesitated.

"And we could even head out to my garden out back, and I could have one of my Pokemon 'attack' your armored Shaymin. Or one of your other Pokemon could do it. Or we could just...try one of my knives against the armor."

She wasn't sure how comfortable Noel would be with watching someone else attack his Pokemon, even for a test.

While there certainly came some risk with having his Shaymin used as practically a testing dummy for the armor, Noel saw no better way than to put the armor under fire to prove its capabilities. [break][break]

"Why not try everything? This little guy is tough even without any armor. I'm sure we can handle anything you throw at us... As long as you don't go too crazy that is... Now then."[break][break]

Up to bat first was the full plate of armor. With the help of Aurelie, the two easily outfit the Shaymin together, the grass-type looking like the spitting image of a knightly Pokemon... If such a thing ever existed.[break][break]

All seemed to be going well, Noel's Pokemon stood tall and proud of its new appearance, ready for any battle. It marched along the counter, each step accompanied with the noise of shifting armor while it put on a content face... That is until its legs began to wobble, and the weight of the armor became too much. Lightly crushed under its weight, the Mythical Pokemon is splayed onto the counter, its legs stretched out in all directions.[break][break]

"Hmm... I guess that ones a no go... But thats ok. There's still plenty to try out still. It would be a miracle if the first was the one to be successful."[break][break]

He undoes the metal plates, unstrapping it from the Shaymin's body, letting it finally free to shake its body and become comfortable once more. This would be a long and arduous day for the tiny hedgehog.[break][break]

"Well... onto the next!"[break][break]

Hours go by of the same repeated process, all kinds of armor tried on and taken off again and again. Their options were beginning to run low, but a glimmer of hope shined down when one seemed better suited than the rest. With the Shaymin fitted with lamellar armor, it walked around the counter with ease. Noel looks on in astonishment, they had found it... however there were still more tests that needed to be done.[break][break]

"Phew... Looks like this ones the one. I was starting to think we'd run out of armor... Now comes the exciting part. Lead us to your garden and hit us with all you've got Aurelie."

[attr="class","aurelie_body"]When the sheer weight of the full plate armor proved too much for Noel's Shaymin, Aurelie winced and pressed a hand to her lips in dismay. Thankfully, Noel was quick to respond, helping his Pokemon out of the cumbersome armor and unbuckling the many straps to liberate the poor creature. The red-haired smith let out an impressed whistle at his speed and efficiency.

"Arceus! Great job," she enthused, clapping her hands and smiling at the relieved-looking Shaymin. "Were you a knight's squire or a knight in a past life or something, Noel?"

She grinned teasingly at him. "Well, if you ever quit your day job…" She paused, realizing she had no idea if he had a day job or what it was, before forging on anyway. "You should consider becoming an armorer! You have a knack for it."

From there, they proceeded through the rest of the armor that Aurelie had created according to the Shaymin's measurements. She too eventually realized how long a day it would be for the poor Pokemon and made sure to take breaks and offer water and berries at regular intervals between armor trials.

Still, by the end, the adorable, hedgehog-like creature was definitely drooping slightly from the weight of the different armor it'd tried on, though it never lost its patience with them. Noel's presence probably helped greatly. The red-haired smith had to admit, her own patience was probably wearing thin faster, if anything.

So, Aurelie was deeply relieved when the lamellar armor actually proved comfortable for the Shaymin. It strode around atop the counter with ease, looking almost pleased with itself. Or maybe that was just her projecting her own pleasure and satisfaction at seeing something work out, finally.

"Nice! Thank Arceus one of the options I made turned out well," she chuckled. "All right, let's move to the testing!"

She ushered Noel and his Shaymin through the door to her workshop and led them to the backyard garden entrance, pausing once to pick up what looked like a stuffed burlap sack. The air was fresh and sweet outside with the scent of ripening berries, and the sun shone warmly overhead. The red-haired smith breathed deeply and then grinned, setting the stuffed sack on the ground.

"I realize this might be strange, since I was just saying we could try attacking your armored Shaymin, but..." Aurelie gestured for Noel to take off the armor on his Pokemon. "Seeing your Pokemon, I just can't!

"As a backup plan in case you said no, I made this as a sort of stand-in for your Shaymin. I trust my craftsmanship, but...I know things can go wrong or mistakes can happen. This sack, for all that it's much less cute, should be exactly the same size and fit inside the armor. And I couldn't care less if it loses some of its cheap stuffing!" She flashed Noel a mischievous grin.

While he hopefully helped remove the armor and outfit the replacement "Shaymin" in it, she reached for a Pokeball. Taking a deep breath, she released what she figured was probably one of the the worst-case scenarios for any Grass type to encounter: a Volcarona.

"Whenever you're ready, let me know. On my signal, Séraphin," she said, turning to her own Pokemon, "hit that armor with a Bug Buzz, please!"
