No, he did not know, and the sheriff's somewhat poetic choice of words truly did precious little elucidate the mechanics of the sword.

He needed something more concrete than memories, promises and phantom limbs if he was to be of any help.

"Let us place that question in the backburner, for now." He said simply.

In the background, Gawain towed around bags of coal.

"Hmm..." Gwyar thought, cupping his chin.

It could well be that there truly was nothing more. Perhaps Avatar powers didn't need to make sense or follow any identifiable mechanics.

But that answer didn't sit well with him. There had to be more they could do.

How to make Navy more perceptive of his own body...?

"... Have you ever meditated, Sheriff?"

“Uh…” He scratches at his beard. The genuine answer to the question is no. Even old age brought on by Galar weighing on his soul did not make him turn inward instinctively. Tempered him, yes, but he has always been a fist or a sword, flying free towards all comers.[break][break]
“I fish sometimes. That’s the closest I get.” Some might call it very manly meditation, sitting quietly on the Dewford docks and waiting for a bite that might never come. It gives him time to think, all under the guise of watching the sea for Kyogre. It rarely ever comes by, and it has never attacked the island since the first time it passed.[break][break]

Oh brother.

"... In a manner of speaking, Sheriff." The blonde humored the other man, smiling in a way that just barely skirted the line between sympathy and condescension. "Come, follow me."

He knew by now that the Sheriff was sharp, but also a... product of his circumstances. The ratio of street to book smarts was heavily skewed to one end, and the man could only be described as a 'man of action'.

The blonde led the Sheriff into the shack proper, where the tools of trade and resources needed to craft blades were found aplenty. It was hot inside, but then, they were standing on Mt. Pyre's caldera.

Everywhere was hot.

Discarding his heavy coat, the man approached a bench and took a seat, patting the spot besides him simply. "Take a seat, Sheriff."

The good thing was: he had not been lying, per say. If the man could be alone with his thoughts for long enough to make going fishing a hobby, then he could probably handle 10 minutes of mindful meditation.

Hopefully.

"Come now, this won't take long." he said. "If you can learn this, we may be able to better understand what goes on in your body whenever you use your avatar gifts."

Gwyar’s exasperation makes him smile. Navy has been on the other side of this sword many a time, so he understands his fellow’s frustration. Following the knight inside, he takes off his poncho and hat. Beneath, forming a lightning shaped bald spot along the center of his hairline, is a grievous scar from an old battle. It traces from front to back, marring an otherwise luxurious mop of brown hair, and Navy scratches at it in unconscious embarrassment.[break][break]
They have bigger concerns than old wounds. Navy exhales, not protesting at the request. He sits, and he does something he rarely does anymore: he sits alone with himself.[break][break]
See him as he is, a man cast between two worlds. Vipers snake through both, though one side makes no secret of their scales.[break][break]
Exhale.[break][break]
His paradise is Valhalla. His favorite taste is that of blood, washed down by mead and the taste of a woman’s lips he has earned through strength. That is his world, a place just for him. It is hot like this place. The fingers of his mind’s eye play at gripping a sword. It cuts through this place, denying that which makes him happy.[break][break]
Navy closes his eyes, better to focus.[break][break]
He sits in the slumbering weald. Forgotten is the heat. There is only purpose. What separates a knight from a warrior? Purpose. His sword does not swing for the luxury of glory. It swings for the survival of nations and for the comfort of loved ones. He looks down and sees his own arms. Where there should be flesh is instead simple steel. He himself is a sword. It forms from energy, from the air, from his flesh and from his blood. It comes from old memories he did not know he knew.[break][break]
“…huh…” The sound is somewhere between long, warm sigh and eureka.

He closes his eyes just as Navy does.

After a second or so pass, a single eye peeks open, before the other follows.

Navy was doing just as he had instructed. Given he had claimed to have never meditated, it appeared he may have been a natural.

In and out, chest rose and fell.

Again, and again, and again.

"Oh dear."

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

...huh...

The crashing of steel on steel halted. Gwyar, wearing a completely different outfit altogether, held a hammer in hand and pincers in the other, the two sides of the sword that Navy had cut in half earlier set on the anvil before him.

"Good evening, Sheriff." The blonde said after a moment, setting down his tools. "How are you feeling?"

One glance outside and the Sheriff would realize just how much time had passed in what appeared to be the blink of an eye.

"I've gotta say— I'm impressed." He said as he moved around the anvil, tongues in hand, shoving the glowing hot sword into a barrel. "It's the first time I've ever witnessed anyone meditate for 16 hours; without so much as budge, at that."

He dropped down in front of the man, wiping sweat of his brow with a rag before draping it over his shoulders.

"Was it useful?"
