MARCH UPDATE

It was just another night in Sootopolis for Kokou. Confronting debters and other kinds of civilians as a daily thing for him. Kokou went wherever the jobs called him, the jobs being using his Pokemon to subdue people into paying Team Rocket. It wasn't honest work, but it was hard work and Kokou quite liked his role as a Team Rocket Grunt. He didn't do any of the more typical tasks of a team member, like stealing or murdering, instead he just confronted people who owed the organization money, and beat the hell out of them. It paid good, and Kokou got to do what he loved best, battling Pokemon. It wasn't rare that someone had Pokemon to defend themselves, but Kokou had yet to be beaten in his line of work. His team was phenomenal and he worked every day to train them at commands. Kokou was a bright young trainer of Team Rocket.

For this bright young trainer, he was working on a different sort of job tonight. Team Rocket was organizing an underground ring of battles in Sootopolis, and Koko uhad been chosen to represent the grunts of Rocket in the match. It was no holds barred, all manners of fighting were open to be used, and Kokou planned on going all out. He had been practicing commands with his Pokemon. Kokou used whistles to command his Pokemon to use certain moves, it was quicker than calling out techniques. Kokou had spent all day going over the routines that this Pokemon were going to use, and the illegal maneuvers he planned on using too. Kokou was an opportunist, and he saw battles as the prime example of an opportunist winning.

Wearing his white jacket and baggy blue pants, Kokou walked into the ring. There was a giant cage around him and his opponent. Kokou stared him straight I nthe eye, then stuck up his middle finger. Kokou didn't have anything to say. He had a reputation to uphold as the most talented grunt of the new generation in Sootopolis. He planned on making this fight quick. Pulling a poke ball from his utility belt, Kokou released Oishii, his Munchlax.

Standing in the middle of the Arena, Oishii was scratching his belly. The baby pokemon didn't get much action recently. Kokou had caught him awhile ago and had been training his newer Pokemon since then. Oishii was surprised to see the light of day at a nonscheduled hour, and released an echoing bellow of joy. Not wanting to get his Pokemon distracted before a battle, Kokou let out a sharp whistle. This command was to stand at attention, and Oishii did so. He was ready for battle, all it would take it a whistle from Kokou and the Pokemon would attack.

Cillian was far and beyond grunt work. He was not opposed to bloodying his knuckles alongside the lowest of their ranks if the mood called for it, but tonight? He was here to have fun.[break][break]

A sharp laugh escapes him as the grunt flips him off.[break][break]

"You've got balls, kid." Perhaps he didn't recognize what he was up against. The lighting in this place wasn't the best, not to mention the haze of smoke in the air. His SHADOW MIASMA mingles with it, twisting dark serpents into a mists of grey. Cillian's gaze sharpens, suddenly, as do his claws. Shadows swallow the hand that holds a pokeball, sharpening fingertips. "Don't do that again."[break][break]

He tosses a luxury ball. The EEVEE might seem an odd choice for an underboss of such rapport. But it was a SHADOW POKEMON like any of his others, viscious and snarling.[break][break]

He whistles, too, but his system is different. Following the whistle comes a pitched click, and the Eevee launches herself at the Munchlax, aiming for the throat with BITE.

Watching his opponent from afar, Kokou could see that this man was ever confident. Most of the time, people who were overflowing with arrogance had some precipice to stand on, but in Team Rocket it wasn't unheard of for a Grunt to win a few matches and think he's Arceus's avatar. Kokou didn't think much of what Cillian said, he figured it was mostly just bravado. The young trainer ignored Cillian's warning called out to him, "Eat dirt." Then Kokou let out a whistle, prompting Oishi to begin stomping around and kicking dirt up into the air. In just a second the chubby, little Pokemon was completely obscured.

When Cillian released his Eevee, Kokou was surprised by how ferocious it seemed. This Eevee had definitely stubbed it's toe on the way out of the pokeball. It was filled with rage and had a dark look in it's eyes. The Evee jumped into action, launching itself into the dust cloud. As the shadow Pokemon went into the thick of things, Kokou whistled again for his Pokemon. Munchlax heard his master's command and began to use Stockpile. Pumping his calorie filled blood into his muscles, Oishi bolstered his defense and took on a defensive stance.

Guarding against the incoming attack, Oishi held his own. The Eevee was latched onto Oishi's arm, but Oishi had the advantage. Oishi grabbed the Eevee by the head and slammed it into the ground.The bang was loud, and by the time Oishi jumped back to put some distance between him and the Eevee, the dust cloud had settled. Kokou whistled for his Pokemon once again.

Cillian's eyes narrow, the deep violet ring around his irises swelling to swallow gold. His veins pulse dark, further telegraphing the flash of anger. A warning sign.[break][break]

But it's too late for warnings, now.[break][break]

Eevee lets out a horrible, piercing shriek as the Munchlax slams it against the group. The sound is grating on the ears as SHADOW DOWN forcibly lowers defenses. Several spectators wince or cover their ears as it radiates throughout the crowded space.[break][break]

Cillian doesn't flinch, having expected it. Shadow swirls around his ears, his DARK AURA dampening the sound.[break][break]

"Do you know who I am?" His voice echoes softly, threatening. "You should."

Standing across from the glowing man, Kokou felt a bit underwhelming. When he had started the match, it seemed like Kokou's opponent was just another grunt. Some guy participating in the lower ranks fun, but as his dark aura flared around him, Kokou began to think that he had given the wrong guy the bird.

Turning his attention back to Oishii, Kokou gave out a single whistle command. Mmunchlax charged forward with his shoulder facing forward. The chunky monkey Pokemon dashed forward and as it came closer to Eevee, it leapt high into the air. Munchlax crashed down with a devastating body slam.

As Oishi was charging his opponent, Kokou responded to his opponent. Shouting from the distance, Kokou had a gruff voice. It sounded like he smoked cigarettes. "Never seen ya around before. Why don't you tell me who you are?" Kokou had expected Cillian would anyways. "I'm Kokou. I'd say it's a pleasure to meet you, but Oishii is about to kick your Pokemon's ass!"

"Should've asked that first."[break][break]

He exhales gray smoke and black MIASMA. Though his anger is dulled by the nicotine rush, his eyes retain the colour of poison.[break][break]

"Cillian Quinn. I wouldn't be so confident."[break][break]

Eevee COPIES her opponents movements, matching the Munchlax with a BODY SLAM of her own. Cillian's SHADOW MIASMA wreathes her, boosting her strength.

Watching as Eevee glowed with power, Kokou knew something was coming. Munchlax had just landed on top of Eevee, and was rolling off the Evolution Pokemon when it began glowing, and Kokou was quick on the draw. Whistles fast and loud, Oishii was commanded to roll. The munchlax tucked his arms and legs in and began rolling. Munchlax rolled past the Eevee's body slam, and kept on cruising. He started circling the arena, menacingly hissing at the Eevee as he cycled past.

With his Pokemon on the defensive, Kokou found that he had a moment to talk. "Well, Cillian, just who are you.? Some boss, a scientist? Yo u somebody special, or just a freak acting out in the arena?" There were many such cases, but Kokou wasn't dismayed. Cillian certainly seemed interesting, and if Kokou understood anything about what interested him, it was that it needed to be studied. "Show me what you got, bub." Kokou let out another whistle, commanding his Munchlax to stop circling the arena.

Now standing behind Eevee, Munchlax began beating on his chest. The sound was deafening to Eevee, but Kokou and Cillian were safe from the noise. Oishii continued to bang on his belly, boosting his attack and preparing for an ultimate finishing move.

"You still don't know." It's flat with a disappointed sort of surprise. He'd known the name of every man in Kanto that could end his life in a snap of their fingers. "Grunts these days."[break][break]

Eevee watches with disinterest as her foe rolls around the arena. It's not until the Munchlax begins to pound on its belly does the shadow fox act, kicking dust and debris from the filthy floor of the underground arena into her opponent's eyes. The SAND ATTACK would make it much harder to aim its devastating blows.[break][break]

Cillian's eyes are on the grunt, flecks of gold diluting violet.[break][break]

"Underboss Quinn, to you. Do you know any of your superiors, or am I the special exception?"[break][break]

His tone is dry. He's affronted not because Kokou's ignorance offends him personally, but for how it reflects on Rocket as a whole.

Watching with disgust, the Eevee kicked dirt up in Oishii's eyes and Kokou sighed. He despised an assault against ones accuracy, it was an underhanded move, but it worked well and he respected that. "I just take orders from whoever gives me the most money. I'm not like all you other Rockets, kissing ass and sucking dick to get to the top. I just want my pay, nd a good nights rest." Kokou spit into the ground, he disliked the way Cillian expected him to know of him. Underboss, what did that even mean! Kokou was filled with contempt and unleashed another whistle command. Oishii reached out with his intense strength and aimed to grab the little Eevee. He would crush it with all of his might and end this battle. Munchlax moved fast, but with dirt in his eyes. He could barely see but he didn't have far to go. Arms outstretched, Oishi sized Eevee and began squeezing.

He did not require grunts to grovel at his feet, to call him sir with every breath and never ask questions. He did, however, expect basic respect.[break][break]

So when this overconfident, arrogant kid spits to punctuate the most appalling thing Cillian's heard from a subordinate in a long time, it's hardly a surprise that the gold vanishes from his gaze.[break][break]

"Just where do you think that money comes from, ignorant fool?"

Whoever was paying Kokou got their money from the top.[break][break]

But that wasn't what had incensed him most.[break][break]

"I wouldn't let you suck my dick if you begged for it." Cillian recalls his Eevee just as it dodges back from the Munchlax's grasp. "Let's see how tough you are when you can't hide behind your Pokémon, hm?"[break][break]

Cillian steps into the ring himself, flexing his claws.

Well this was an unexpected turn of events. As Cillian returned his Pokemon, Kokou called back Oishii too. Once Munlax was back in his PokeBall, Kokou replied to Cillian. "I can't say i'm surprised. Guys at the top love showing off." Kokou pulled a poke ball out from his utility belt. Inside of it was Tekko, Kokou's Metagross, his ace Pokemon. If Cillian wanted to fight Kokou he would have to accept that there would be a referee. Kokou wasn't stupid, Cillian looked pretty vicious. The underboss certainly lived up to his title, but that didn't mean Kokou was impressed, or afraid. He released Metagross into the arena. Tekko roared as he was released. Tekko was a mild mannered Pokemon, but that didn't mean he didn't love to battle. The Metagross was excited to be free from his poke ball.

Whistling to his Pokemon, long and high pitched shrills, Kokou instructed Tekko to watch over him and then stepped forward. Entering the ring with Cillian, Kokou's heart was pounding. He could see Cillian's deadly claws from where he stood, and Kokou knew he was in over his head. Kokou wasn't without a weapon though. From his belt, Kokou pulled out a snub nosed .38. He pointed it at Cillian and said to the underboss, "No holds barred." Metagross rumbled above him, floating in the air above the arena.

Kokou pulls out a gun, and Cillian stares at him blankly.[break][break]

This man wasn't simply an arrogant fool, he was an utter and complete idiot. After a beat, the underboss lets out a sharp scoff and a Pokémon of his own. The Corviknight ruffles its jet black feathers and stands at attention.[break][break]

Then Cillian's SHADOW itself seems to move, gaining physical form as it swiftly whips up from the ground to curl around Kokou's wrist in a tight HOLD and yank it down, hard. They retract as quick as they'd appeared.[break][break]

"Put that away." Cillian's voice is velvet with threat, cold as ice. "Before you get yourself killed."

As Cillian's shadow took form from nothing and gripped Kokou's wrist, a loud gunshot went off into the air above Kokou, ricocheting off Metagross and into the crowd. It hit someone, gravely injuring them. The crowd started screaming and cheering for Kokou and Cillian. They were excited to get a little blood on their apron, and Kokou's ignorance was certainly entertaining. As the shadow possessed Kokou's wrist, he droppeded the gun and let out a sharp whistle. Tekko immediately heard the call of his master and came sinking down from the air above, his arm forming a heavy hammer and separating Cillian's shadow from Kokou's hand.

With his hand free, Kokou rubbed it and called out to Cillian. "What kind of freak magic do you got Cillian?"

Cillian's heart rate spikes at the crack of gunfire, though a PROTECTIVE barrier erected by his Corviknight would've ensured his safety even if it had not fired toward the ceiling. A bystander is struck, and Cillian's attention turns to them.[break][break]

"What a mess," he mutters disapprovingly, releasing a Shaymin from a luxury ball at his belt. It FAINTS, casting its HEALING WISH on the injured man.[break][break]

The underboss turns his attention back to his opponent as he returns the ball to his belt. Metagross' hammer arm strikes against the filthy floor of the arena, the shadows having already retracted.[break][break]

"I would suggest you refrain from involving your Pokémon, lest I do the same."[break][break]

The Corviknight radiates an aura of malice, a deep glow of purple-black that matches the SHADOW MIASMA that wreathes Cillian's form. Only its master's lack of orders hold back its bloodthirsty nature.[break][break]

"I am an Avatar. Something you might've thought to learn before deciding to test my patience." His claws flex again, then retract. The shadows wreathing his arms disperse. "But I don't need my powers to put you in your place."[break][break]

THEO BECKETT had trained him to fight long before the shadows had claimed him.
