[attr="class","itemcoltext"]Engaging with this strange festival-goer without taking off its mask grants you a cute buddy for the Festival of Masks. They do not speak. Though they are nimble and playful in the way that they waddle alongside you.[break][break]

It is clear over time that this is no human, but a Pokemon. However, you play along, enjoying your time with this friendly creature.[break][break]

Eventually, the Pokemon brings you to the outskirts of the festival to offer gratitude before its departure. But the good times do not last. Its crystal mask begins to crack as a TOXIC CHAIN bursts from inside it. As the scene begins to change, it swings its IVY CUDGEL at you.

The presence of the mysterious Pokemon made the event much more bearable. Thomas found the playful behavior to be rather adorable. That perhaps if he could find this one in the real world, he'd gladly adopt them, if given the chance.

As they left the festival, the scene took a turn for the worse. The brilliance of the Teal Mask was shattered, giving way to the putrescence of the Toxic Chain.

"Lyds!", Thomas called out to his cousin, attempting to take the Ivy Cudgel for her.

Upon impact, Thomas was snapped out of the simulation, and back into the real world. A cold sweat poured across his body, as he frantically looked around. It was as if he had been in a horrific nightmare. One that left him with more questions than answers.

"Lyds, you okay?", he asked his cousin, as he collected himself.

Even Lydia grew attached to the mysterious visitor. The soldier went so far as to buy it a candied apple. When no one was looking, she would cast an almost maternal smile its way. By the time the situation soured, the edges of her suspicion had been worn away. Even Minerva’s rocky edges were less visible.

Maybe the six sample cups of sake had helped with that. When the little creature led them outside the festival grounds, something in her mind buzzed in alarm. Her eyes drifted to the sky as the ceremonial fireworks reached their zenith. “!?” The sound of ceramic shattering drew her eyes up. Her gun was in her hands before her mind processed what was happening. Minerva moved to summon a Stone Edge.

But Thomas was faster. As his world faded to black, he probably heard his name shouted in alarm. Then, the finality of a single gunshot.

As she awakens, the VR helmet is removed with a surprising aggression.

Her eyes are angry as they lock onto her cousin. She does not answer his question. “Do not do that again.”
