Rhys couldn't tell whether he'd been struck by a stroke of luck or simply been targeted as a grunt to toy with. Proximity to Zev Harcourt had been something of an intermittently common occurrence, these days, and he had to admit he had a bit of a chip on his shoulder after performing so abysmally in the SPECTRA Gauntlet.

Irony would, of course, have it that the one directly responsible for his failure was the one he'd been assigned to partner with in patrolling the simulation's Fortree City. He couldn't be too bitter, at least - he'd given as good as he'd got, and she hadn't made it any further than he had. At least they were equally strong.

"Ready when you are, ma'am," he quipped back to her initial query; the path through Fortree wasn't a difficult one, but the citizens' insistence on arboreal housing made it tedious to navigate. He proceeded behind Ameena, with his Goodra bringing up the rear, footsteps sloshing behind him. "I would think the defenses would be fine," he agreed blandly, "But I imagine it's that kind of thinking that loses fortifications."

The snap of a wood plank drew his attention as Ameena suddenly shortened herself, gripping on to the sides of the bridge as her leg went straight through the space where one of the slats formerly existed. "Oh, damn, here." Rhys crouched, the bridge swaying unsteadily from the sudden action of Ameena's near fall, and carefully assisted her in pulling herself back up to the bridge proper.

"Well, maybe the defenses are fine, but the infrastructure could use some work. Perhaps we snag a carpenter on the way?" Humor wasn't likely the accepted reaction to things going counter to plan, but Rhys found that it helped him cope, as it were.

Stepping carefully over the absent board, he pointed down to the ground. "Let's check on the Pokemon Center first, ensure that the fortifications are in place. We'll all be up a creek if medical aid goes down."

HEAVY RAIN CONTINUES TO POUR. turbulent winds cause the rope bridges to swing haphazardly but most are able to transverse safely as long as they proceed with caution. some old planks give out but the overall integrity of the walk ways weather through the storm.

underneath them is another story. the sea level continues to rise. the ground can no longer be seen from above, swallowed entirely by turbid waters. instead, deft shadows lurk underneath, casting long silhouettes as pokemon swim underneath.

the POKEMON CENTER remains operational. for most, it doubles as an evacuation center however herein lies one of the city’s main generators. the other is located at the FORTREE GYM.

and that’s where danger strikes! they can see the small, personal motor boats well before they arrive. but they cannot prevent their riders from breaching into FORTREE as a pair of aqua agents and their pokemon leap into the trees.

“we have reached fortree. proceeding to disable their power supply. let us be swift and lead by example.”[break][break]


Gwyar Wledig and his SAMUROTT make a beeline for the POKEMON CENTER. his partner, Hitoshi Inoue, follows only a pace behind.

they pause when confronted but show no signs of stopping.

on cue, his KABUTOPS leaps from the water underneath, barreling forward with an AQUA JET, spinning like a helicopter, ready to slice through ameena abadi, her GARDEVOIR, and the wooden foundation upon which they stand.

Oh no. Oh, no no no.

Rhys's tenuous navigation along the swaying bridge was arrested at the sight of Aqua agents arriving at the fringes of the city, their boats navigating the sloughing waters with practiced ease. "No, we've got to move, they're going to break into the Pokemon Center-"

But he couldn't move fast enough. ameena abadi and her Gardevoir were ahead of him, and the bridge was barely holding as it was. Though it was difficult for him to even consider mounting an attack or distraction from this rickety vantage point, the invading duo were under no such compunction, and the Kabutops bursting from the waters below the bridge was enough to take him nearly completely by surprise.

'Nearly', in this case, turned out to be good enough - for one of the Rockets, at least. With a yell, Rhys lurched forward, ungracefully shoving Ameena and her Gardevoir further along the bridge before the Rock-type burst upward, its scythe-like arms severing the bridge as though it were paper and scoring a deep laceration along Rhys's side in the bargain.

Rhys's cry of pain was lost in the torrential downpour and the crack-snap-snick of the bridge collapsing; Ameena and her Gardevoir were nearly to the next solid platform, but Rhys found himself falling with the length of the bridge, several wooden slats breaking off to spin aimlessly in the deluge below. His fall was arrested just before he found himself submerged, and he clung to the mass of vines and wood with all the tenacity he could muster, his wound burning.

His Goodra was not so lucky, the slimy drake landing in the water and becoming, for a moment, nearly indistinguishable with the slough. His head soon surfaced, however, and he mounted the MUDDY WATER into a violent surge that boiled upward toward the attacking Kabutops, heedless of his trainer's precarious position.
