the grass paths were aflame.[break][break]

"cram, hurry," he urged his partner. however, the bird's attempts to use water gun on the raging fires was interrupted with the galarian slowbro's psychic. he hadn't known those pokemon could even learn flamethrower and set the fields ablaze, yet the pokemon was strutting around and spewing fire everywhere. haoyu wasn't sure how beat the shelled pokemon. "cram, you gotta take down that slowbro so we can handle the fires." but the cramorant was seized up with indecision, and haoyu struggled to strategize.[break][break]

If there was one thing that Yuina knew to keep an eye out for as the region trekked on into the summer months, where the heat became that much more prominent and the region's instability could cause any manner of things, wildfires were not out of the question.[break][break]
She kept a close ear out for any reports, especially on one particularly warm day, and sure enough, she could see smoke on the horizon as she headed towards the initial reports of a fire breaking out.[break][break]
Moving into the fray, getting close to the perimeter, Yuina first sent out Dig the Ursaluna who began to dig up dirt and dust to keep the fire from spreading, and to start to put out the outer edges. Containing the fire was the first priority. Next was Higumei the Ursaluna, knowing the bear's keen senses would be exactly what they needed to make sure no one needed help within the flames, and then he could make it through to the other side to contain things.[break][break]
"Higumei, search," Yuina spoke in foreign word amidst the flames, sending the Ursaluna into the flames as he began to seek out anyone or anything within the fire.

his delay cost them. the galarian slowbro used psychic on both of them, launching haoyu and his cramorant through the wall of fire and onto the outer ring, into freshly-dug dirt.[break][break]

haoyu coughed hard and tried to re-situate himself. his clothes hadn't caught fire, but the brief contact with flames was unpleasant. he kept a cool head, though, unbothered by the radiating heat due to his frequent exposure to flames. he scrambled to his feet just like cramorant and noticed someone who was clearly assisting. "hey!" he said, voice hoarse until he cleared it. "there's a galarian slowbro in there. it- its creating the fire."[break][break]

he pointed to the center of the flames which could no longer expand due to her dugout, though neither of them could see the slowbro clearly through the curtain of fire. "i think it's the only pokemon here. i didn't see anything else." cramorant spewed water gun at the wall again, but it hardly made a dent. the slowbro inside was still using flamethrower to feed the flames.[break][break]

Breaking the path for the fire with freshly dug dirt, the Ursaluna started to work on the edges of the flame with more dirt and mud from the ground, smothering the fire and dulling the embers that could continue to catch. Yuina kept a close eye out for Higumei, if the bear called for her or worked to bring someone out of the flames, but it seemed that the bear's work on search and rescue was cut short.[break][break]
A man and a blue bird were unabashedly thrust through the flames off to the side, and as they hit the ground and the man called out, Yuina was quick to rush over.[break][break]
"Are you okay, how long were you in there," Yuina returned, coming close and looking him over. He was blackened by ash and smoke, and his coughing was indicative of how much he might have inhaled, but at least it looked like he didn't suffer any serious burns?[break][break]
"A Galarian Slowbro? Was it upset, or injured," Yuina wondered then, it was surprising first what kind of Pokémon of any was causing the fire, but why? Pokémon weren't destructive like this for absolutely no reason, and if they couldn't figure out what, who's to say it wouldn't keep going?

he's approached by someone he identifies immediately as a ranger given her armband. "okay," he croaked out. he would be totally fine, he just needed to catch his breath. "it- i'm not sure why. it's all that's in the center of the firestorm, so i don't think it's fighting anything." he wheezed as he got back to his feet.[break][break]

cramorant's water assault was still failing to put the raging fire out. but then the galarian slowbro flew out of the fire and struck him with a tackle, sending cramorant flying backwards.[break][break]

"maybe psychic interference?" could galarian slowbro be affected by another pokemon's psychic attacks? he couldn't remember. pokemon behavior was becoming more and more erratic. the war made sure of that.[break][break]

Keeping close, Yuina knelt down beside the man that had been unceremoniously thrown from the midst of the fire with his blue bird, thankful at least that he was alright. But they were far from finished with this, especially if they couldn't stop the alleged Slowbro from spouting more flames.[break][break]
"Okay, the best thing that we can do is work to contain the fire, and then work our way in. If we can get any brush out of the way, keep overhanging tree branches wet, and then we can...," Yuina returned, starting to formulate the best way they could keep the situation contained that way they could then focus on the Slowbro inside... Until it wasn't inside the flames anymore. Looks like they were going to skip a few steps.[break][break]
Yuina tapped the steam release on Daikenki's Pokeball, and the hiss of the ancient mechanisms gave way to his energy emerging and forming. The Samurott leered with open maw, eyeing the Slowbro in question now as he drew out his seamitars from the shells on his arms.[break][break]
"We don't have to fight, but we can't let you burn through the entire route," Yuina tried first, a last attempt at diplomacy before sending Daikenki forward. Could the psychic type be reasoned with?

her eye was on the prize, and she hadn't skipped a single fire safety lesson. he loved to see that. "cram, keep the leaves wet," he ordered. cramorant used hydro pump on the environment to keep anything else from catching.[break][break]

the angered pokemon stepping through the flames was not as moved by yuina's efforts to keep things safe. it used water gun at them both, giving thwackey an opportunity to use razor leaf and cut through his water blast. [break][break]

"i think we should rely on more drastic measures before the ruckus upsets the wildlife within miles of here." who knew what other pokemon could be enticed to create chaos?[break][break]

If it could have been helped, Yuina didn't want to have to fight off the Slowbro, but it seemed that there would be no other way. They had to be able to get things under control before anything else, and if that meant trying to subdue the psychic type for a time, then so be it.[break][break]
"Alright, we gave you a chance," Yuina remarked as it attempted to accost them with a Water Gun, and while the THWACKEY took to dispelling the water, that gave Daikenki an open opportunity. The Samurott hissed, slashing one of his blades coated in water out towards the Slowbro, Soaking it entirely. Dripping with water, that made the Pokemon that much more susceptible as Daikenki barked, unleashing a series of vines from the earth below, using Grass Knot to ensnare and subdue the Slowbro.[break][break]
"This should give us a chance to get things under control," Yuina spoke as she kept a close eye on the Pokemon, and the flames had continued to disperse while Dig and Higumei worked both inside and outside of the fire to quell the fire.

she was terribly capable. her pokemon moved efficiently. more than that, the soak attack was something he'd never witnessed before, but it set up the perfect window to KO the violent pokemon. "what was that?"[break][break]

the fires quelled. the area would bear scars from this moment for weeks to come, but it would ultimately be better for it, growing stronger around the remains.[break][break]

he sighed with relief. "i am so glad you came around. thank you."[break][break]
