Another day, another training session - truly thank you, Admin Cross ... ... but Fenelle is still alert, as any mistake in war could lead to a loss, and more importantly, death. Dee nods at der assigned partner for today, before gesturing to one Rotom-tablet floating around dem.

"Hello, I'm Mille - or Fenelle. I'm deaf, and Rotom here will translate signs and spoken speech. Looking forward to working with you today," dee introduces demself in sign, spoken aloud then by the Rotom's robotic voice. As it's time to pick, dee seems to tilt der head this way and that, gesturing to either of their current options - then leans more towards Beast Neon.

"Do you mind if we go with Beast Neon today?"

As the tablet began to speak, the rotom's eyes widened in amazement. It started circling the tablet to examine its new friend. Mark wasn't as excitable as his partner pokemon but paid close attention to every word translated through the tablet's voice.

"Woah," Mark said, pausing to absorb the spectacle before him. "Cool."

Though Mark was familiar with this technology, he hadn't seen it used in this way before. It scratched an itch he didn't even know he had. Realizing he needed to respond to Fenelle's question, he snapped back to the moment.

"That works for me."

The Beast's digital expression reflects "^_^" back at you from behind his gear, which startles you. You hadn't realized that his disguise was so well-formed. [break][break]

"You know," he says. "If you want a suit like mine, you can just go ask Admin Delaney." [break][break]

fern delaney is renowned for their expertise in forgery and counterfeiting. With the impending war, it would be wise to have such security measures for your identity. Perhaps that’s something you'll pursue later. But for now... [break][break]

"How do you feel about working with your hands?" the Beast asks your group, as he decides to organize you into even smaller groups. [break][break]

"If I have to work with Ja—I mean, Admin Cross, I'd rather not," someone speaks up behind you. You recognize the voice as Victoria Beckett's. Isn't that Underboss Beckett's daughter, recently returned from Kanto? Or are those just rumors? [break][break]

If you skip weapons training with jayden cross, which looks intimidating enough, you'll have to engage in hand-to-hand combat with Beast Tempest Quinn. Watching him unleash his pit of canines against defenseless grunts makes you wonder if that's any better. [break][break]

That new suit is looking more and more appealing. [break][break]

Fenelle tilts der head with a frown at the transcribed words, confused. Did you get distracted? dee signs with the little sign upfront that this doesn't need to be translated. The Rotom shakes No, before giving another electric-sounding greeting towards its kin that floats around it. It seems kind of relieved to be surrounded by not (immediately) scary things for once.

"What's cool?" dee asks then "aloud", with the Rotom using sign-to-speech again. Still, their choice is also made and they move onto Beast Neon's training - which is further divided.

Dee eyes the suit with fascination, now maybe similiarly distracted as Mark before. The drastic shift in tone compared to the other instructors dee knows is also ... kinda refreshing. Dee at least knows that der Rotom seems to truly welcome not being thrown between intimidation checks over intimidation checks for once.

Der attention is rapt, however, as der gaze follows Beast Neon's pointing and. Oh hell. Oh hell no. Oh please.

"Admin Cross. ... if that's okay."

The other grunts around them voiced their opinions about who the group should train with. Mark didn't really care either way. All of this felt incredibly trivial to him. His skills didn't really shine here, but he was willing to do the bare minimum of playing the part of the grunt if that was necessary.

After probing its new friend, Mark's rotom returned to his side, its static aura raising the hairs on his skin as it got close.

"Whatever."

You have no idea what kind of trouble a random grunt like Victoria Beckett may have with the offense Admin, but you know you want no part of it. After all, with a war storming on the horizon, you know you'll have no choice but to sharpen your weapons skills. [break][break]

Inside one of the covert training facilities concealed within Sootopolis, you and several others are led into a training chamber. Stepping into the room, you immediately realize you may be out of your depth. The room is frighteningly frigid and a paralyzing sense of HATRED pierces your chest as the Rocket Admin stares at you. Behind him, racks of lethal weapons line the wall. [break][break]

"Weapons are dangerous but necessary in war. You cannot always rely on your Pokémon or more skilled colleagues to protect you." [break][break]

"You must stand on your own." [break][break]

"Choose a weapon, then attack me." [break][break]

You glance at the wall. Closest to you, there is a sword and then a shield. Which do you choose?

Fenelle looks pensively at the single word for a moment, before the Rotom helpfully supplies, Me translating, maybe? in text across the screen, which causes dee to nod in understanding. "Ms Lulu Flint has given me the idea for that ... It's been very useful." But dee still's looking to replace the Rotom maybe with a Porygon line out of sheer preference - which, frankly, might be to this particular Rotom's relief.

However, they move on and this suspicion is immediately confirmed. Still, Rotom's doing its work diligently, just under actually below comfortable temperatures now.

Fenelle's no stranger to jayden cross's frigid hatred, having already faced off against it once ... and it's also this that dee takes one step towards the sword. While shields could also be effective in offensive combat, dee would rather not risk not following Admin Cross' command to a T. Still, dee looks at Mark, with a questioning look.

"Any strong preferences?"

[attr="class","mark-inner"]Both Rotom and Porygon-Z were integral to Mark's team. If Fenelle asked for assistance, Mark would eagerly tout their usefulness. His most successful hacks were due in large part to his rotom and porygon-z working together to crack passwords and breach firewalls.

But now wasn't the time for computer-related topics.

Their current trainer, a well-known Team Rocket Admin, expected physical responses. He wanted to see how they could react in scenarios without computers and pokemon. He wanted to see them in action.

"Sword," Mark said, selecting the option for both of them.

His words carried a tone of reluctance. If it weren't for his partner, he wouldn't care to be here. He also didn't particularly enjoy making decisions about things he didn't care about.

With the sword in hand, Mark charged towards the Admin. Working alongside Fenelle, he released a series of strikes with his blade, all of which were blocked by the superior swordsman. The weight of the blade surprised Mark, but he mimicked techniques he had seen in countless videos online. As he went in for a final all-out-attack, Mark maneuvered around the Admin to a place near his rear. Although his attack was blocked, it seemed as if the Admin had let them win, yielding after their effort.

Mark couldn't shake the feeling that their victory was more a lesson than an accomplishment.

You choose the sword. What better a weapon to fight the Offense Admin with, who was known for his superior swordsmanship even before his ascension to avatar? [break][break]

At the very least, you think wielding a sword might earn you the admin's favor, given his affinity for weaponry. [break][break]

You endure the biting cold as you two clash swords, the resounding clash echoing through the frigid air. Your swift maneuvers and quick thinking grant you the upper hand, and eventually, the admin yields. [break][break]

His expression is softer now, and you get the distinct impression that he let you win. But he appears genuinely pleased with your choice, your aggression, and direct approach. [break][break]

"Excellent work," he commends. "In war, you will need to be ruthless. Secure the win for Rocket, no matter the cost. Even if it means challenging me."

Holding the sword against Admin Cross is only possible for Fenelle by the past months of actually picking up training (2k23 year self could never) and by not being alone in the fight either. Continuously, dee sneaks in when Mark's got a hit in, and equally tries to provide cover by distracting the experienced swordsman. A fight 1v2 should sound unfair, but definitely not in this situation.

But at the end of the day, dee remains a nerd through and through. It's lucky that dee doesn't collapse before they were granted victory, and also doesn't collapse immediately afterwards. Dee breathes heavily, but tries not to huff, but forces demself to take deep breaths. There's a definite tingle of satisfaction at, in der perception, answering the question correctly.

~~A good grade in Admin Cross' book is normal to want and possible to achieve-~~

Dee nods, then turns to Mark and offers him a handshake. "Good fight." Let's never do this again, der expression seems to imply for a brief moment before fading to the usual indifference (post-workout edition).
