A SUDDEN EXPLOSION TOSSES Alba Evovae out of the Mossdeep Space Center's archives. Although he has been unable to discover anything in regards to the memetic Galar, his forced ejection from the building brings him to the closest thing he can get for an answer: Zamazenta himself.[break][break]

Alba Evovae's launch from the Space Center humorously parallels Greyson Connors's meeting with Zamazenta—but war is no laughing matter. As the Elite Four member defends against an attack from the northern seas, Alba Evovae's memories of Goodbye Galar come flooding back.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]Greyson stands atop the northern bluffs, hands clasped behind his back, chin held high as he regards the invasive force in-front of him.

This wasn't all Rocket had to bear--war had multiple fronts and he knew this was just one of them.

His attention turns to a group on the beach, bursts of light and explosions of debris indicating a battle was taking place. He closes his eyes, sucking in a breath, as he tries to extend his AURA to encapsulate as many as he could.

He fails, the limits of his newfound powers manifesting in an ounce of irritation. He ENVIED those with more control than his own, but it lasts but a moment, before ORDER replaces it.

Greyson knew that with a flare of his Will he could do it, but his psyche, rebuilt under his patrons power, was still a fragile thing. He would need to ease into such displays of power.

"Thanks," He says to the canine behind him. Zamazenta had changed with his christening and now the massive Legendary was truly the bulwark he was meant to be.

Zamazenta lifted his head from resting on his paws to sniff once, then returned it. Any onlookers might have suspected it to be a bystander, but no one knew better the need to defend one self than the Hero Dog.

He would step in. In time.

Greyson's attention snaps to an explosion, and with it, a hurtling form. Unable to determine allegiances, he prepared a MANIFESTED SHIELD to slow the figures decent, if necessary.

But something else was more important than whoever this had been. He points his finger at a ship moored a couple of hundred feet away from the shore.

"There." The POWER SPOT was within sight, and if he had anything to say about it, would be erased right here.

Zamazenta stands, ready to act.

“Nothing? The League’s secrets at our fingertips, and there’s nothing?” Files upon files unfold before Alba Evovae’s eyes as his Porygon-Z sets to work, absorbing whatever classified information it can like a gluttonous, digital banquet. All very good, very interesting, he was sure. But there was something he needed to know more desperately, something beyond simply curiosity.[break][break]

His hands grip the edge of a desk, turning white-knuckle just as his vision goes white. Up becomes right, and he falls down, down…[break][break]

“Beheeyem! Teleport!” He disappears for an instance, and arrives in the waiting arms of the enemy.[break][break]

Now firmly on the ground, he ‘hurtling form’ was clearly part of Rocket’s science division; a flowing white lab coat would have made him look right at home in the Space Center, were it not for the distinctive red R that gave away his allegiance. A featureless, jade-coloured mask hid his face, and from the light electronic crackle whenever he spoke, there was something disguising his true voice as well.[break][break]

“It’s you…” The grunt says in a quiet voice as the vertigo clears. The hero-dog of the shield. Beneath that crackle is the sound of something haunting in Alba’s. Something else that was part of that dead and dying dream and had left it to rot; another thing that didn’t belong here in the slightest.[break][break]

At its beck and call is someone who outmatches him in every way. A shining beacon of the region who made his name through his battle prowess. No, he doesn’t have a hope in Hell of fending off Greyson Connors and his pet dog; perhaps he has just enough time to get Beheeyem to Teleport them away.[break][break]

But he stays where he is, not willing to turn and run just yet. He needs to know something first.[break][break]

“You’re one of the Elite Four, right? That’s some fancy lapdog you’ve got there. How’d you get your paws on it?” Like a spring, slowly winding tighter and tighter. There was no overt aggression from the Rocket scientist, but he seemed almost like a cornered animal, ready to throw his Pokémon at this iron wall, or ready to run for his life.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]If the pronounced R wasn't enough to clue him into this figures allegiance, the mask and voice changer certainly did.

Greyson turns from his task, his stance rigid and unbreaking, to regard the newcomer. Hatred fills his veins, bubbling into a curled lip snarl.

"You've made a mistake coming here."

Zamazenta remembers all too easily how Team Rocket had chosen the side of Ruination all those months ago. And, whether or not this strange had intended too, their attention shifted from the POWER SPOT.

Greyson felt no threat from this figure--from no one on the island, except perhaps if the rumors were true that Zev Harcourt was here. It wasn't because his enemies were weak, no, that would be too arrogant.

He was simply INDOMITABLE.

Greyson reflects. Why did he hate this figure? It was inconsequential. Was the connection between him and Zamazenta fueling one another?

He waves the entire thing away and turns back to the sea.

"Leave while you still can."

“What, not in the mood to chat? Or maybe you don’t even know what that thing is? Either way, I’m not going anywhere. I asked you a question, remember?” Had the mutt arrived on a petal, like the High King? Had a way out of a dying dream that had not been afforded to the common people?[break][break]

Or did it still march on somewhere, far beyond his reach? Either way was torture.[break][break]

“Break his shield, Beheeyem. Guard Split.” Strange lights flicker across his Pokémon’s form as it stretches out its fingers, with a reluctance that slowly fades into resigned determination.[break][break]

Even a god could be dragged down to the realm of mortals. That’s what he had to believe. Even if the pit of his soul was saying to let his partner spirit them away, he had to drag the truth out of this man’s snarling mouth.

The GUARD SPLIT's only noticeable effect was a minimal one--a small bit of luster was taken from the golden radiance of Zamazenta's shield.

Was it happenstance they were prepared in such a way, or something more sinister?

Each moment wasted here could be used elsewhere.

"Go." He commands the canine, and in a burst of speed so profound that it generates electricity, the WILD CHARGE descends upon his enemies.

For the smallest moment, he allows himself to breathe in the lie that his gambit has done anything worthwhile. That his efforts have not simply brushed across the hound’s gilded sheen.[break][break]

And then his world is swallowed up in violent electricity, that slams into Beheeyem with divine power,, knocking it out with ease. The excess force crackles up the grunt’s body, making him grit his teeth and dig into the inch of ground he has.[break][break]

The smell of ozone fills the air.[break][break]

“Say something, at least. Or can’t you say anything from behind the League’s muzzle?” In front of him are two impregnable walls in every sense of the word. A shield that outstrips whatever sword he could bring to bear. A silence that refuses to heed any words.[break][break]

A Poké Ball flies from Alba’s grip, the motion pained and jerky. And from the molten beast that escapes, a Magma Storm whips into a frenzy.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]Amethyst orbs regard his opponent and their gaze is unwavering. After a moment, Greyson frowns.

It had been far too easy, getting swept up in the tide of Divine power. Mere weeks ago he'd been the one at the constant mercy of those with power and now, here he was decreeing those beneath him.

He sighs.

"I'm sorry," he starts, unconventionally. "How quickly I forgot what it's like."

His look could easily be mistaken for pity; he isn't sure how to label it himself.

"But I can't leave an enemy at my back. No matter what."

He'd been adverse to death since the first step on this journey.

He'd avoided going so far, but in the process of doing so, had seen loss on a scale that had nearly drowned him in a tide of its own.

How foolish he'd been. He should've been the one to take that burden. He wouldn't make that mistake again.

Greyson watches impassively as the MAGMA STORM consumes his patron, but as it fades, so too does the lingering effects of a WIDE GUARD.

Greyson turns again, only halfway this time, to regard the fleet beyond. His eyes narrow and a single impression flows over a still developing bond.

A HYDRO CANNON forms in the throat of the Legendary Pokémon and in but a moment, it lances out, bisceting the ship holding the POWER SPOT.

But that's not all.

Zamazenta keeps the attack empowered, turning its head slowly as the beam of pressurized water slowly turns onto the Heatran.

Somberly, Greyson fixates his attention to the Alba Evovae. With no preamble, he begins to break the distance between them with a simple, purposed gait.

“You’re sorry?” For a single instant, all the tension in Alba’s body dissipates, as if he had forgotten he stood on a battlefield. There’s incredulity in his voice, because surely this man has not opened his mouth only to apologise.[break][break]

“I don't need pity from the likes of you, got that?” As Greyson marches forward, his target backs away, watching onwards as the Indomitable cuts through their Power Spot with a thought.[break][break]

“Don’t talk about forgetting, or ‘what it’s like’, when we’re two completely different people. When you have no idea who I even am.” Alba spits his words, hissing from both pain and indignation. Venom to hide that slowly tightening feeling in his chest.[break][break]

He doesn’t know. He doesn’t have news from the dream, or a way back to it, and the mutt with the pyrite shield can’t have any interest in revisiting a rotting memory. From beginning to end, this has been a waste of time.[break][break]

Alba’s role in the Rocket war machine had been to take as much data from Mossdeep as he could get his grimy hands on, then flee the scene. Having broken from that routine, he’d been rewarded with a fight he couldn’t win, having thrown away his escape plan in the name of a fruitless endeavour.[break][break]

The ground ruptures, Heatran summoning an Earth Power to form a rickety defence — a distraction more than anything — against Zamazenta’s assault, then Pokémon and trainer turn on their heels and run.[break][break]

He knows these streets. He walks them wearing a different face. So maybe, just maybe—

The earth churns beneath his feet but it does nothing to stop his relaxed gait. Zamazenta, meanwhile, reacts to the rising defense of earth with a thunderous BODY PRESS that shatters it back to clumps.

Greyson frowns at the retreating back. Those words return to his lips again, unbidden and somber, as he conveys a final: “i’m sorry”

A MOONBLAST forms in the canine’s jaw, his howl marking this match, and Alba Evovae’s life, as over.

“Yeah, right.”[break][break]

Devoid of any other option, Alba’s voice collapses into vitriol, crackling along with the electric static as he tries to escape the inescapable. He’s familiar with this familiar Fairy trick; knows how fast it moves, the kind of power behind it, even just from a weaker Pokémon than this. The road before him is straight for just a few more steps; a few too many for him to swerve out of the way.[break][break]

And so, nameless, faceless, that light rushes to meet him—[break][break]

Carried on the breeze comes the scent of life. The light notes of wooden boughs, carried in by a sea salt wind. The heady hints of a lost king emerging from a dream, clawing up the nostrils and looking for any kind of purchase. It was faint, like a fading perfume, but there it was in the changing wind.[break][break]

And then the world blooms into a brilliant flower, a lance of light with petals unfurling, to clash against the hound’s moonlight. When it finally dims to nothing, there is a small thing, a few inches tall, floating in the air.[break][break]

That, and a Team Rocket scientist cackling as the rush of adrenaline hits him full force. It fills his lungs and leaves him breathless, wordlessly motioning for the Floette to run with him as he dashes round a corner, desperate to seize this chance to live.

[attr="class","snub-greyson"]The wash of Fairy light dissipates, and in its wake, a rib vibrating growl reverberates.

Greyson frowns as a strange sensation throttles the bond between them. It was equal parts anger and disgust and he probes it carefully.

In precious few seconds, he understands, eyes tracing the retreating form of Human and Pokémon, the scent of a hostile King and that vile Dynamax energy that clings to its form.

Zamazenta wanted nothing more to descend upon that Floette with fang and claw, but Greyson urges a settling calm across that imperceptible thread between them.

Inaction was intolerable but so too was the inability to think before acting.

"They can't escape us." He says with confidence, the stench of Dynamax and a False King still heavy in the air.

Sucking in a breath, Greyson calms the tempest of power that rages beneath his skin.

"We hunt."

As one, they race after their quarry, rounding the corner with remarkable agility and fury, the lips of a canine pulled back in a snarl that echoes on hallowed streets.

And as those last motes of light fade into nothing, so does the laughter ripped from Alba’s throat. The Eternal Floette comes to rest on his Heatran’s scuttling form, recovering its boundless energies after that exertion.[break][break]

In this moment, Alba Evovae’s life is of little consequence. But if he loses the data they had worked to hard to steal, if he lets the priceless asset that had saved his life slip from their fingers, then the jaws of Greyson and Zamazenta will be a mercy compared to those obfuscating shadows.[break][break]

So he runs, for the sake of himself and for the glory of Rocket, not daring to look back to see where his pursuers are. Not daring to pause and look out to the horizon, out to the deafening sound that rings out from Sootopolis.[break][break]

No time to think about what that could be, or what that could mean… A rat had to put everything it had into outrunning a god.
