Crime was impossible to stamp into ashes. There was always another group to catch, or organization to cut off. Even outside of rocket, it was a mess of shaky dealings.

So when Penelope caught the first whiff of smoke, she wasn't all-too shock.

Irritated, maybe, but never surprised.

"Running late. Gotta deal with some BS first. Send a message to Petalburg ranger HQ. Tell them there's a wildfire about to rip through," she murmured under her breath, her thumbs swiftly tapping away at the phone screen, translating her thoughts into pixels.

Slipping her phone back away, the councilwoman's fingertips quickly slid across the alignment of pokeballs tied around her waist. Each one held its own sigil sketched onto it, like a nameplate of sorts. The more she felt for them, the more frustration boiled away at her. As there was not one water type to be found. Not even Melly, her Milotic.

The fire was growing. Huddles of pokemon were already beginning to leak out every hole between the bushes and treetops.

"Fine, whatever, you'll do."

With two clicks and a flash, a Delphox and a Charizard. Both equally unsuited for the task at hand.

"Quick," she urged, her legs finally kicking into a sprint. She could already begin to hear the shrill callings of separated families. "Delphox, use psychic on the flames and force us a way through. Charizard, give us visual."

trouble seemed terribly eager to find people in any way possible. in the case of a particular ranger that had been taking more time in traversing the vast region in the attempt to gather as many bearings as possible, trouble had more frequently found him as opposed to some other folks. but of course, he'd been employed to contend with said trouble every now and again - especially now with a seemingly inevitable war looming on the horizon. regardless of the context of a potential problem, his job was to help solve it. plain and simple.

silverio just happened to had been dispatched to petalburg when a distress call was received. something about a fire that could spread to catastrophic proportional if not dealt with immediately. obviously, the man hadn't anticipated an impending disaster striking other than...actually, no, let's not talk about right now. perhaps the paldea native's biggest challenge yet; the livelihood of both people and pokémon alike may undoubtedly be threatened by a seeminly uncontrollable inferno. alas, at this point in time, dangers such as this should not come as a shock to silv.

"i'll go."

without question or hesitation, he volunteered his service, and soon enough, the sounds of fires cracking and the scent of charred wood plagued the man. but he would battle to endure it en route to the source, a near-breathless dash out of the city and onward towards the woods. here, he could already see herds of pokémon that inhabited the area anxiously vying for any means of escape. no time to think, and perhapas only seconds allotted for the ranger to act.

"alright..."

drawing from each hand and out from the balls he held, a frogadier, krookodile, and rhydon emerged. the tasks that their trainer would assign to them were but simple instructions, yet critical, and of equal importance. frogadier for its water power, and the others for their natural resistance to intense heat. "frogadier, use your hydro pump to help keep those flames from getting out of hand! krookodile and rhydon, i want you two to get in there, and help get everyone out and into safety! quickly!"

by their trainer's command, the two ground-type pokémon rushed headfirst into the chaos. meanwhile, seismic bursts of pressurized water began to project from the mouth of the frogadier. if the frogadier couldn't completely extinguish the flames, at the very least, silv could only hope that he can contain it enough to ensure the safety of anyone or anything affected by them.

and with those, silverio himself resumed his dashing through the burning woods. one scary thought crossed over the back of his mind...would he be too late...?

With charizard as their beacon, navigation felt within their grasp. Loud growls acted as hints of which paths were mauled by flames and which still maintained its structure. The occasional roar would then be an indication of any group of pokemon, be it large or small, that were trapped by the flames, making it a perfect plan of communication.

Eventually, however, Charizard let out an awkward shrill. Something Penelope hadn't quite expected to hear.

"You heard him - let's go left at the fork. Probably another group of Furret."
[break][break]

Assumptions brought the councilwoman following along to her own confusion, helping her find not a furret family quivering behind a tree, but a ranger. Or, someone she thought to be one.

"Hey you," she called out, waving an arm. "You're the backup?"

with the bubbly frog pokémon taking point in their team's approach, a means of escape from the mother nature's infernal wrath seemed to draw near, until it hadn't. just as quickly as some of the flames had been quelled, others had begun to intensify. in the distance, cries and roars rung, signaling the young man that some troubled creatures may be afoot. on the ground, rhydon and krookodile continued to battle through the raging fire, and with their claws, they began to open up makeshift pathways for inhabitants to flee. alas, would their efforts be enough?

meanwhile, the frogadier kept up its efforts, spraying as much as of its water as it could muster. "you're doing great, keep it up!" silverio encouraged his amphibious friend, advancing into the chaos before a voice unbeknownst to him had just reached out, prompting him to swiftly turn in its direction. backup...ah! was this woman responsible for making that call for help? if so, then the man would offer his aid, as was his responbility. duty called, and silverio answered at this moment.

"i am, ready to assist, ma'am." he addressed the woman, shuffling his attire to shake off some of the dirt and char that may have built up on him. "silverio delfino, reporting. unfortunately, it's only myself, but i'll do whatever i can. just say the word."
