The last time Shalin had been tasked to dive so deep into Hoenn's oceans was when she was on a team led by paxton concordas , guarding archaeologists while they retrieved many ATLANTEAN ARTIFACTS from the region's depths. Memories of that operation flooding her mind, there was only one Pokémon she felt was appropriate for the task.

Having cheated death through the trickery of the Dream World, Pharika was ready for her first deep dive into Hoenn's seas since that day, she smiled when Shalin sat in the Dragalge's saddle. "Ready, Yuina?" the Captain asked as her sea dragon tilted her snout toward Celebi's bearer. "What we need to retrieve is on the very bottom level of Sea Mauville."

Geared up and sat astride Daikeni's back, Yuina took note of the sonar equipment that she started to callibrate, knowing that it could help them navigate through the submerged corridors the deeper they traveled.[break][break]
"I'm ready, it looks like right now the upper corridors might be clear enough to travel through. I'll need to run the sonar periodically to gauge our paths," Yuina offered to Shalin, securing the equipment before making sure she was situated.[break][break]
Securing her diving equipment, Yuina nodded to Shalin again and motioned Daikenki into the depths below, the start of their expedition into the submerged sea mauville.

Shalin guided her venomous dragon away from the Samurott once they were underwater; with lighting becoming more and more of a challenge as they descended deeper, she didn't want Pharika to accidentally stab Yuina's Pokémon.

Though the descent was uneventful, the sunken vessel that they were tasked to retrieve the data recorders of was so badly damaged that its entrance would not easily budge. The Captain hurled a Poké Ball containing Bass Boost, her Seismitoad, toward the warped hatch. She pointed at it before having her mount back away a safe distance, signaling for Yuina to do the same.

Once they were far enough away, the ground-type raised her arms, vibrating every bump on them fiercely. She slammed them into the hatch, creating a horrific sound from twin DRAIN PUNCHES slowly twisting the metal. Shalin winced as the giant frog's limbs began to buckle; it seemed even a living earthquake would take some time to break open such a secure entrance...

Keeping steady on Daikenki's back, the two of them followed close with Shalin as they descended into the depths of the sunken corridors. Periodically Yuina checked on the sonar equipment she held with her, to keep tabs on the hallways around them and in front of them, and at least for the time being everything was open.[break][break]
Daikenki kept a close vigil, empowered by the active bond of the sygna suit that he and Yuina shared, and his keen senses didn't catch on to anything that was ready in wait for them. They were nearing their target, and the hatch door of the vessel had been terribly damaged... It was going to take a lot of work to get through.[break][break]
Shalin's frog was doing all of the work that it could manage, but the warped metal still was barely giving way. Yuina drew out another Pokeball, releasing Crowley into the water, and the gator drew near to the side of the warped door around the hinges. He snapped his maw, the water chilling around his fangs, before he lunged forward and gnashed into the metal with Ice Fang to try and create a more brittle surface for the Seismitoad to break through as the ice spread along the edges of the vessel's door.

With the dented part of the hatch frozen, Bass Boost redoubled her efforts, kicking up the intensity to a full EARTHQUAKE. How did the saddle remain strapped to the Seismitoad and not break? Her Sygna Suit must have been truly wondrous to give her the means to withstand something like that.

Unable to withstand the violent pressure, the hatch gave way, making a huge dent in the floor as the giant piece of metal ricocheted off it wildly. Breathing a sigh of relief beneath her equipment, the girl and her Dragalge led the way inside. Seeing would be a real challenge with just a diving flashlight, though...

Under the force and strength of both Pokemon, the hatch door had no choice but to finally give way. Cracked by ice and pressure, the door rushed past them through the water, clanging around before sinking to the depths below. They were in, but only just, it was certainly dark...[break][break]
Yuina drew out the sonar equipment that she had to get a better look around now that the door was gone, but even then that wasn't going to help them very much... She stopped though, and Daikenki barked to the Dragalge to garner its attention. Yuina had a thought, something they could utilize before going in much further.[break][break]
She drew out another Pokeball as Crowley hissed behind them, keeping an eye out for anything, and as soon as she opened the sphere their surrounding area was awash in green glowing light. Nigma the Unown blinked, floating, suspended in the water, effectively lighting up their immediate area with its Illumina energy.

Nigma's light was bright. Almost blinding. When the Unown appeared inside the dark vessel, it looked bright as day. Looking directly at the psychic-type was impossible for her.

The light made it clear how the vessel was downed: its hull had been breached by an enormous Tera Crystal, which had broken into large shards. Suspecting this was what they had been asked to retrieve, the Captain began loading what she could onto her Seismitoad, who had become responsible for hauling cargo to the surface.

With Nigma's light, getting back to the surface was easy. "Yuina, the number of Tera Orbs that could be manufactured using just that broken piece of crystal is mind-boggling," she mused, dismounting Pharika and unloading Bass Boost's load near a pair of Petalburg Rangers ordered to keep watch. "Did you find anything else down there worth bringing up?"

The stark difference of almost complete darkness to the bright illumination of Nigma's new found energy was a bit disorienting, and perhaps not Yuina's best idea, but it worked once she was able to focus through the light adjustment. It might have been better to have brought Nigma down with them so that the adjustment to light was more gradual.[break][break]
Searching around the sunken vessel, the Tera Crystal nestled within the broken hull was a very clear indicator of something that might necessitate more investigation, and Shalin worked to grab as much of the broken portions of it as she could.[break]
Yuina found a series of deposit samples that had been drawn from the ocean floor, precious metals, minerals, and other resources that they could identify and locate. There was far more to be investigated perhaps than the two of them had the time to tend to, so back to the surface they went in order to coordinate further.[break][break]
"There's a lot down there, more than I think was initially thought. That Tera Crystal could prove useful, and if we can identify based on sediment samples where these deposits might be, that's more valuable information," Yuina agreed as they started to organize their work. Yuina drew out her communicator, and started providing the coordinates and sea depth they had traveled to. More expeditions down there would be necessary, especially while the structure still remained stable enough to venture safely.

So only Tera Crystals, but a lot of them. No wonder the League had tasked the two with retrieving them. Harnessing energies that made Pokémon stronger would be the key to winning the war. Primal Energy, Infinity Energy, Z-Energy, Terastal Energy, Dynergy... there were so many ways to strengthen a Pokémon, and being familiar with them all was important.

Taking a look at Yuina's notes, it was clear that the operation was getting far too large for them to handle alone. "I'll get a team from Petalburg to pitch in if I can," Shalin reassured Yuina. "This is already a lot for just the two of us to get back to Dewford. It does make me wonder, though... do you think there's an underwater Terastal cave beneath Sea Mauville?"
