He was making his rounds, making sure that everyone had the supplies that they needed before shit hit the fan, and before he'd have to go off to fight a war that he was no longer running from.

[break][break] annalise henderson had asked him if he was going to Sootopolis, and he'd said no. That he was going to Mossdeep, because not everyone could be a hero.

[break][break] "Oh! Bo - hey," he said, grinning. Things still felt a little awkward between him and the other man, and to be honest, even between him and willow atkins. His best friend didn't feel like his best friend these days, not with everything that was going on in their mutual lives, but especially since that one tear-filled afternoon.

he waited for ollie to approach under the beating sun. the annoyance of that morning earlier in the summer had faded.[break][break]
when the head ranger had gotten close, he turned and opened the door to the barn. a fan blew above, and a mudsdale stood in a corner of its stall, watching them.[break][break]
bo turned, thumbs hooked in his pockets casually, if not a little nervously even.[break][break]
“it’s been tough around here. farm work’s no good if the farm’s not producing anything. will was talking about selling the tauros the other day.”[break][break]

"Oh geeze," Ollie huffed, running a hand through his hair. "That bad, huh?"

[break][break] Some guilt wormed in the Head Ranger's heart — he should've known. But between everything that he had to do at the head office now, in preparation for the upcoming fight and his attempts at keeping a healthy amount of distance between him and willow atkins, in respect for her relationship with boruta maher, Ollie honestly hadn't been as close with the florist as he used to be. As he should've been.

[break][break] "You know," he said, tilting his head. "If you guys ever need some extra help, just say the word. Or if there's anything at all that I can do, ya know."

[break][break] "You guys are some of my best friends, after all."

[break][break] He opened his mouth to suggest that they maybe work out a solution — perhaps he could send some Rangers over to see if there was any fertile ground, now that Isaac Merlo had helped so much with Petalburg, but he stopped, stunned, at the other man's words.

[break][break] Ollie stared for another long moment, flabbergasted, before he shook his head and closed his jaw.

[break][break] "Sorry, man. I'm just. I'm surprised! I didn't think you ever wanted to come back." His eyes glimmered with sadness, having missed the other man's presence in their little found family. Despite everything that had happened, he'd always enjoyed boruta maher's presence in those meetings, even before he realized his connection with willow atkins.
