Afraid of heights... So Makoto's backup plan was a no-go, then. At least - not without some tweaks. Shit. They had thought to let Tsume carry them, and have Erebus carry Tempest. But if they had to go the other way around, then...

Makoto can't help a brief and involuntary shudder. The events of Mossdeep still hang heavy on their mind. They've been able to find some normalcy in being around Erebus again, in the days since, but... There is still a part of them that leaves their skin crawling whenever they so much as brush against it.

What other option do they have, though?

As Tempest insists upon being the bait, Makoto shakes their head. "This is just any other getaway for me." They claim - an exaggeration for sure, but one that they hope will put his worries to some ease as they make a decision. "You'll go. Tsume!"

And as the Zoroark is called upon, he understands what Makoto wants. As they let go of Tempest's hand, he rushes forward with a Agility to scoop the Beast up, and dart ahead.

Makoto, meanwhile, switches Kuro out for someone else.

As Erebus is sent out, the Deoxys is immediately readied for a fight - its attention locks onto the Golurk without hesitation, even if there is that brush of inquisition against Makoto's mind. Its tentacles coil into humanoid arms, the barest hints of frost on its fists...

... But rather than command it into combat, they instead reach out for its arm. It is startled at the contact, but Makoto speaks before it can 'question' them. "I'm not testing our luck. Follow Tsume."

Erebus blinks, but after a moment, it nods. Arms once more unform into the tendrils it is familiar with. There is a hesitation as it moves to scoop them up - the both of them know Makoto is uncomfortable with this contact - but even as Makoto flinches, they cooperate.

And thus, it Teleports - even if it cannot move as fast as Tsume by default, it can still close the distance like this, as they flee the behemoth.

Tempest can't keep the surprised yelp from coming out when Tsume grabs him. He was only used to Cillian Quinn flinging him around and didn't often see the need for his own pokemon to carry him. The Zoroark is much faster than he would have been on his own, though. Still, his head whips around to make sure that Makoto Kurumi isn't trying to play the hero.[break][break]

He breathes out a sigh of relief when Erebus grabs his friend and blinks away with them.[break][break]

The terrain and the added speed of the pokemon help. Yet the Golurk still, even if slower than before, closes distance behind them. They also face another problem: the fog from before has moved in behind them. They would have no choice but to dip inside of the sickly yellow mist.[break][break]

In the end, that may actually help them escape. To be obscured from the Golurk's view might help... but as they approach....[break][break]

The fog - that sickly mist - it is an ever-present issue, isn't it. If Makoto had more time to understand this place, they'd almost wonder if the Golurk weren't trying to herd them into it.

Tsume growls - a rumble that Tempest would likely feel as much as hear, with the close proximity - expressing his distaste for the situation. A rock and a hard place, in a layer of reality that he still ill understood. The last place he wanted to be.

And the cry that calls out, a keening sound, is unlike anything that Makoto or Tsume has heard before.

Immediately, something from Erebus pings across everyone's minds, a sense of familiarity. I recognize this. But rather than elaborate on it, it simply impresses a sense of caution, of wariness. To Be careful...

Though even if one wished to heed Erebus' warning, what choice is there but forward? At the very least, Erebus offers its psychic abilities to this matter - casting out its awareness to seek out other minds within the fog as they advance...

A shiver runs down Tempest's spine when hears that cry. As a child, he had always been told that when you felt that it was someone walking over your grave. That idea had always terrified him. The idea of his future grave was horrifying.[break][break]

Then his mom and sister had died. The same idea of that grave had become a comfort. (When had it become a comfort?)[break][break]

Now, though, it instills that same terror as it had so many years ago.[break][break]

Yet Tempest did what he always did when he scared. He grit his teeth and endured.[break][break]

The mist surrounds them all. It whispers in their ears, stinking of sulfur and sadness as they charge forward. Footsteps are muffled, even from the giant that chases them.[break][break]

A long pause.[break][break]

Wingbeats. Another cry.[break][break]

A beam of red lightning passes by them through the fog in an arc.

The mist is... Something, to say the least. Makoto can barely see more than maybe a couple feet - only just far enough to know that Tsume is still there, and by extension Tempest. They have slowed their trek to avoid running facefirst into anything - but they are nonetheless on the move.

The whispers though, of the regrets of the dead... Makoto wonders, if this is what may happen, when any of them die. Will they, too, become such a transient thing?

The arc of lightning is met with alarm - Tsume snarling softly, and Makoto hissing in surprise. The whispers of the fog feels so distant now, when there is something dangerous here with them, something far more attention-grabbing.

Makoto dares not speak though - they don't want to know what may happen if they make too much noise while whatever it is is lurking out there. Instead, they point - and Erebus and Tsume both move in turn.

Their hope is to avoid taking a straight path. To change courses off to the side - both to lose the Golurk, and to hopefully avoid drawing too close to the winged being that lurks.

There is another cry, this one of anger, and another blast of red lighting. This one only glows faintly from behind them, the angry cry of the Golurk showing it was what had been attacked.[break][break]

Had Yveltal saved them intentionally or by accident?[break][break]

Tempest does not know. He does not think he wants an answer, either.[break][break]

As they run, the mist thickens. Until, suddenly, the fog clears. The whispers of the damned don't touch their ears any longer. The path ahead is one they had come from. It is open and empty. The Golurk and their red-winged savior seem to have vanished.[break][break]

Tempest sucks in a breath. An oppressive air feels as if it had been lifted off of his shoulders.[break][break]

"I think we can go." He says, trying to keep the tremor out of his voice.[break][break]

Tempest didn't want to spend any longer in the Borders today.
