And just like that, Caleb found himself on an impromptu date.[break][break]
The first part was easy: whisk her away on the back of his Lapras, across the sea, to the Hidden Treasure beachside bar and lounge. The next part was a little tricker: it involved a ten minute wait to secure an outdoor table with a view of the sunset. But soon enough, the two were sitting across from one another, no longer strangers fate had brought together by way of some unlucky Wailord, but two people who were, presumably, deliberately trying to get to know one another.[break][break]
"So, do you live in Dewford? Or were you just passing through here for work, too?"[break][break]
On the ride over, he'd explained his position as an Elite Ranger primarily assigned to Slateport, but who, on occasion, was sent out on missions in other cities.[break][break]
A waitress approached with a carafe of ice water and a sunbeam smile. Caleb ordered a beer, then waited for Nina to state her preference.

she had called some motels home. however, she refused to claim the seabreeze inn, which was far less than cozy, with too-old appliances and an exceptionally strange gentleman who hung out in the laundry room and stared too much.[break][break]

”i’m visiting a friend. it’s an extended stay kind of situation – but i’ll be out of here soon, i think.”[break][break]

her job was almost done. she’d gained rika’s trust, along with the mining company’s shipment schedules and routes, security protocols and guard rotations. all that remained were the access codes.[break][break]

she’d move on to the next place after. there was no real home – but she hardly wanted to tell caleb that.[break][break]

the waitress arrived, and nina’s eyes pulled away from the alluring blue gaze across from her to mirror back a bright smile. she ordered a negroni, with a charming please and thank you, before her attention returned to caleb again.[break][break]
