it was barely advertised, but people came together and set up an afterparty for the success of the last month's festivities.

local shop owners and restaurateurs have come together for their own celebration, inviting most of slateport's residents. the food park that kyle had frequented had been the chosen venue, and under the night sky, it lights up like a beacon.

fairy lights of different colors lace up the locale, providing colors that fill in the vibrancy of the vibe. the smell of grilled food and the sound of talks and laughter add more to the mood.

kyle wasn't one of the people responsible for it, but he was invited nonetheless.

he leans down one of the generators powering up the place, giving it one quick check with his electivire to make sure it was on working condition. with the last thing double checked for safety regulations, he turns to notice a pair of eyes staring at him.

"ah, sorry," he tells the visitor, explaining the situation. "they closed down the food park today for a private function."

he tilts his head at the reaction, confused by the other's own confusion. implications behind his words were caught, but without context, he isn't sure how to make of it.

kyle decides to shrug it off.

"j-just an after party for the previous festival," he answers. "it's mostly just the slateport vendors and some sponsors who stayed behind."

he goes uneasy, evident from the shifting eyes that are unable to maintain eye contact. matias was, after all, imposing. no sane person would laugh at some poor sod helping out the local people for their own party.

the electivire tenses with its trainers own nerves, but it eventually finds a reason to relax.

"outsiders aren't invited, but i can show you to some other place if you're looking for places to eat." talking about his interests lightens up his tone. "i know good ones around town."

he takes out his phone, texts someone who invited him in the party, and then turns to the crowd to wait for a reaction. when they stop and glance at where kyle was, they flinch but mellowed down the moment kyle waved bye.

the reaction was subtle, but was easily ignored.

"well, there's a barbecue place a few blocks away." he rests his arms down once his message was received by those at the gathering. "do you mind walking a bit further away?"

wary eyes remain on their backs. people know of the relationship between the two-- more precisely, matias' role in kyle's transition from one phase to another.

the electivire, at the very least, start to trust its trainer's judgement and grow less cautious of matias.

there are too many reasons to explain this oddity that stands before him. that walks beside him. kyle lopez is dead. matias saw it unfold as flames of absolution washed over him, paving the way for redemption. this is nothing more than a con.[break][break]

"ha!" he barks out a laugh to himself at the subtle reactions of the crowd. it seems they are in on it too.[break][break]

he dips his head and guides the both of them out to the main street. formality wasn't synonymous to respect in matias' book, as the kyle of old would have learned. unfortunately, the default configuration does not reflect what had been.

it does not, however, take out what had been inherent in kyle. the nostalgic casual manner of talking remains.

"you like electivire?" he repeats, turning his head to matias. "i got him out of necessity, but i grew fond of him."

the electric-type pokemon seemed to hold back on its tears upon hearing its trainer's comment, but still kept it together. the second statement was enough to salvage it.

kyle shrugs his shoulders after seeing his pokemon's reaction before turning back to matias.

"do you pick your pokemon the same way?"

they exist out of necessity; if he had no need for them, he would not invest the time, effort, and energy into catching them and raising them. he has no need for pets.[break][break]

since his move to hoenn, it hasn't been used much, but at least now it enjoys a peaceful life roaming relatively free. for whatever reason, his pokemon still choose to stay in his orbit.[break][break]

he doesn't say anything about the blatant admittance of the way he mentions his pokemon are treated. it was taboo, but not necessarily uncommon.

kyle simply nods at the answer until a word that depicts a pokemon opposite of a tool comes to play.

rather than an outright confrontation, he keeps the conversation casual. skepticism appears in their chat like any other topic, thrown without any tone of suspicion behind them.
