"Hah..." His lungs rattled, desperately trying to push oxygen into blood saturated with dioxide. A blood vessel in his eye burst, turning the entire eyeball red. He could barely see through the marred eye, yet his other was clear and alert. "Hah..."

Rex spat out a globule of blood over the corpse of a Pokémon Ranger. For a horrible moment, Rex thought it was the face of ollie morales. If he could've afforded to breathe, he would've sighed in relief, knowing that the Head Ranger wasn't here. Yet he would've appreciated the older man's help, right now.

Because at this precise moment, Althus Rex was alone.

"FACE ME!" His Gallade speared a Rocket Grunt through the belly. He stepped over the unconscious body of his Hitmontop, before facing several grunts. His eye widened as he saw them reach for their Pokeballs. With a growl, Rex lunged forward. His Gallade cleaved the group in half. "YOU!"

He saw the man on top of the hill. It wasn't Hitoshi Inoue. For a moment, he thought it was. He was surrounded in bodies.

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU, ROCKET BEAST!?" His wounds screamed as he stepped forward. His eyes burned with the passion of his moment. He had a large smile on his face as he stared down the Hoyeon. "FACE ME!"

Sleepless nights catch up with Tempest.[break][break]

The battlefield clears, only one screaming, pathetic, weak fool standing below him. The redhead is crazed, even from the distance Tempest can see that. His hoarse voice screams for Tempest as if about to perform some vile apotropaism, blood splattered on clothes and lingering in teeth.[break][break]

It matches the fine red mist that surrounds Tempest, the stink of shit and piss from League bodies around him. Tempest steps on a fallen body's spilled guts, quashing them underfoot as he answers Althus Rex' request.[break][break]

A worn down Cherish Ball, red paint mostly faded away and gloss almost rubbed off, is tossed to Tempest's side. Compass stands over her Trainer like a guardian demon, mask down to grin wide and wicked. Steam ripples in the air around Tempest, Sygna Suit flickering to life and burn at his core. Panels of energy shine around him for a moment, barely glinting in the light.[break][break]

Black gloves creak as Tempest makes fists, a snarl rising on his face. He doesn't look at Rex. He only looks through him. Another annoyance. Another throat to crush. A nothing so far below him that he doesn't even bother to dignify him as anything more than meat.

Hitoshi Inoue had warned him of men like this, beasts in human skin that pretended that they were living, breathing people that did more than feast on the corpses of the slain. The swordsman had warned of beasts and demons and those who would expedite Rex's journey to the underworld.

Yet in this moment, all Rex can do is feel relief. Relief in the fact that there are other people like him who revel in this uncouth slaughter. There is proof of the fact that this man is exactly like him. All it took was one look for trainers to battle.

It only took one look to know their soul.

"That's what I'm talking about. Fight me with everything. COME ON!" Rex roared as his Mega Locket shined with energy, coating his Gallade in a shining beacon of light that transformed Rex's ace into a proper knight. "LET'S DO IT!"

Maybe this time, he'll feel something beyond mindless exhilaration and joy.

The Sygna Suit places the Rocket Beast squarely above Rex, but that's good. It means that the fight will be hard, and that it'll be an upward struggle. There's no meaning in fights that end in a stomp. There's a world where victory tastes like sawdust because nobody can compete. That is not today.

A Psycho Cut threatens to split Compass's head from her neck.

Psycho Cut is met with Psychic Fangs. The blade chomped down on with symbiotic head. Compass pushes against the Mega'd pokemon, Tempest's soul fueling her actions. She burns with a raw fury, long legs pushing and pushing to try and push the Gallade back.[break][break]

Tempest skirts around the two pokemon and goes directly for Althus Rex himself.[break][break]

Electricity crackles off his body, mixing with the steam rising from the suit. Tempest's slow and predatory steps speed up as lightning ripples over him, landing to fizzle in his fists. A roar leaves him when he's close enough, kicking off into a run right at the other. Hands are raised to grasp and claw and pull Rex back.[break][break]

He had expected Rex to run from him.[break][break]

And this is where Tempest Quinn fucks up.

Althus Rex does not run. To run would be to deny a purpose almost three years in the making. Rather than balk in the face of this Rocket Beast's Sygna Suit, at his power formed from a bond with a Pokémon, Rex did the opposite.

The Gallade flies backwards. Rex marches forward, ducking under tooth and claw in order to maul the Rocket Beast. There was no grace to the attack. No grand plan. This wasn't even a battle between Team Rocket and the League, anymore. It was just an ugly, brutal mauling that meant everything and nothing.

There's an intimate moment where the duo are close, and he smells the sweat and shit and and blood that radiated from this man. Proof that this man was a fighter. Proof that he was a warrior worth overcoming.

His Gallade, meanwhile, closed the distance, preparing for another slash at Compass's neck.

Their intimate moment is shattered when Rex scoops a sharpened rock from the ground and attempts to brain Temp in the temple.
