In the aftermath of the attack on Sootopolis by both the maddened Kyogre and the League, the only emotion Aurelie felt was a shock so deep that it numbed every other emotion she could possibly have been feeling. All that terror, fury, violence, panic, and grief—and all for what? An ending that turned out not to be happy for anyone?

When the flood waters receded and the shock wore off, her first thought was for the warehouse where she'd been frantically working for the past several months. At her request, Rocket generously filled it with all the equipment and materials she could dream of, and she was consumed with worry that it'd all been ruined by the surging seas. As soon as it was safe, she rushed back to check.

Through rubble-filled thoroughfares, past waterlogged buildings lined with shattered windows, weaving through stalled cars and toppled electrical poles, Aurelie ran as if Kyogre itself were still chasing her. She was panting hard by the time she reached the warehouse. Flinging open the door, she was unspeakably relieved to see that, despite an inch of water covering the floor, everything was intact and undamaged.

Like me, she thought ruefully. Damp, soggy, but still, ultimately intact. More so than I have any right to be...

Somehow, that made her think of the few others she encountered in Sootopolis during and before the battle. Of Admin Bee or Boss Walsh, she had no doubt they were safe somewhere and probably plotting away merrily and menacingly. Of ...well, she'd been through a lot, but no doubt she too was safe in all her draconic prowess and power.

But a tendril of guilt uncurled inside Aurelie when she suddenly remembered and . I just left them, she reflected ashamedly. I saw that Rayquaza burning down the Dyna Tree and coming after the Calyrex I'd just armed up, and I...ran off.

Where were they now? Moving far more slowly and sedately now, Aurelie began asking the citizens of Sootopolis. She was far from the only one asking after survivors; it seemed half the city was looking for loved ones from whom they'd been separated during the evacuation and flooding.

"Have you seen a tall woman with dark skin, purple hair, and glasses?" she asked anyone walking past. "Or a Johtonian woman with long white hair and a Walking Wake? Maybe near the Cave of Origin? How long ago did you see the Johtonian woman? Was she okay?"

Mitsuru had never felt so lost in her entire life.

She'd failed to find who she was looking for amidst the sudden panic. She'd failed to help the people in need as the waters began to rise. She'd failed to stop Kyogre from getting the blue crystal. She couldn't even protect her own Pokemon from the great leviathan that devastated Sootopolis like a storm. Her Walking Wake was missing. Her Garganacl lay fainted in its Pokeball. Her Dusclops was lost somewhere deep in the water. And Trubby? Trubby was, lucky, alive. Different, but alive. She should've counted her blessings that he'd managed to survive the Origin Pulse, but instead, all she could think about was how she'd failed to keep him safe when it mattered the most.

She had failed at just about everything she could've failed at. And yet, here she was. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, had tried and succeeded in their missions, only to end up dying to the overwhelming power of this natural disaster. But she, of all people, was still here.

It didn't really make sense, did it? She supposed that the Gods were kind in that way. Or, maybe they were cruel? Or maybe they were just completely indifferent to it all.

As she aimlessly walked through the ruined streets of Sootopolis, she wondered: What was she supposed to do now? She couldn't stay here, she knew that much. But what else was there for her? She could go back to Slateport, back to her failing business and her miserable attempt at a personal life. Or she could move back to Johto, and try to claw back some of the dignity she once had. O-or, maybe she could try and go back to...

Bump. She accidentally walked right into a familiar-looking woman, and staggered back a step.

"A-Aah, sorry..."

Even as she started asking random passersby for any news of the women who'd gotten lost deep in the Cave of Origin with her, Aurelie caught herself wondering why she felt so strongly about finding them. It wasn't as if she'd known them very long or particularly well, after all. They'd met for the first time only today while evacuating from the threat of Kyogre before it arrived in Sootopolis.

Yet, in the space of a morning, they'd been through a lot together. A chase underground, an encounter with two Enteis at once, a lot of swiftly growing tera crystals, the weird tera tree that turned out to be connected to the Dyna Tree, the ferocious glittering Walking Wake, the blue crystalline stalactite...

It'd been quite an adventure, even before Kyogre flooded Sootopolis and all-out war broke out across the beleaguered city. Enough for Aurelie to feel like some kind of bond had formed between them.

Of course, she reflected, whatever bond there was, I broke it. But then...doesn't that mean I owe that woman a chance to tell me off or snub me or whatever? Assuming that's something she even cares about, anyway.

With that remorseful and none-too-reassuring thought in mind, the redhead rounded a corner and promptly collided into someone stumbling down the waterlogged street. "Oof! Hey! Watch where you're..."

Aurelie's voice trailed off as she noticed the woman who bumped into her had bedraggled, waterlogged white hair and was wearing a shredded, dirty, yet somehow familiar Johtonian outfit. Her eye widened with a sudden surge of feeling that could've been hope, or relief, or just recognition.

"Wait a minute," she exclaimed, her voice softening as she reached out to steady the other woman. "Is that you? Um...um..." She groped for words helplessly for a moment, realizing they'd never so much as exchanged names when they met deep within the Cave of Origin.

"Well, were you a civilian who got evacuated into the Cave of Origin?" she asked instead. "The one with the runaway Walking Wake? Because if you were, I've been looking for you."

She ran a hand through her own sodden, tangled red hair and sighed. "If it isn't you, then I'm sorry for wasting your time blabbering nonsense. But if that was you...

"Then I'm still sorry. Because I was down there with you, in those tunnels full of tera crystals. But then I ran off, because of a tree being lit on fire. I'm sorry for leaving you to...whatever happened to you when the city got flooded and nearly sank into the ocean."
