The number of new recruits to Josh's Gym was growing; it was getting to the point where due to the number of large Pokémon there, he might have to purchase more land for them to roam. East wasn't an option, for Route 111 was a major public road. He would need to expand west. Expanding and adding three more Sectors to the west was a long-term goal of his; were all to go according to plan, he would be able to secure the land early next year, and have twelve new courses ready in time for the 2027 season.

The weather was beginning to cool off, as well, putting a limit on how much Josh could enjoy riding his water Pokémon through his courses. Processing Lutgarde Dijkstra's Gym badge could wait. Pushing his desk's chair in, he withdrew Inky the Glaceon into his Poké Ball and took his Gym's elevator down to the lobby. Not to take on a wave of challengers, but to simply have a good time with many of his Pokémon.

With the sound of a gentle bell, the elevator doors opened to reveal Mauville City's handsome Gym Leader in all his glory, RAINBOW FEATHER pinned to his shirt. With a yellow and black helmet covering his head, he was ready for the great outdoors.

Although Blossom could find at least one thing to like about most anywhere, she must admit that Mauville City had posed a challenge so far. Not only was the city entirely built indoors, artificial to the point of discomfort, but the Hoennites called that "Kalosian" inspiration.

As easygoing as she was, the ranger found that such an assertion came close to being offensive. This was Lumiosean flair at most, and even then Kalos' capital wasn't built like a giant shopping mall (thank the gods). There was greenery on the third level of this city, yes, but still...

The local Gym, at least, was a breath of fresh air. She and Darjeeling both marveled at the amount of Pokémon roaming freely, to the extent that when a dignified young man appeared Blossom forgot to speak of anything but that.

Mauville City was quite different from any other city in Hoenn, or even in the entire country. Only the top level of its three was exposed to the elements, the asphalt roads there serving as the ceiling of the middle level below. Due to its restrictive geography, the only way to grow the city was by building up. Building up was also nearly impossible due to residents on the top level understandably not wanting to give up their natural lighting.

"Once we get outside, absolutely," Josh replied, sliding his helmet's visor upward so that she could see his face. "Leader Devlin. How can I help you? Are you here for the Gym Challenge?"

The word "outside" alone put a brilliant smile on the young woman's face, and she couldn't keep from clasping her hands together in anticipation. The Deerling beside her pawed at the pavement, its tail flicking just as excitedly. City folk might call the pair of them simple-minded, but Blossom honestly didn't care: She was a country bumpkin, and proudly so. Besides, the Gym Leader himself seemed nice enough.

"Ah, I'm Blossom Delier," she said, blushing as she remembered her manners and offered her hand belatedly. "I'm only visiting, actually... I've never been much of a battler," she added, with an awkward smile.

A visitor? Someone looking for a tour of the Gym? Was that what she wanted? It was a bit odd seeing someone come to the Gym and not be at least somewhat interested in battles. Only one other thing came to mind as he led Blossom to the rear desk where guests were checked in. She might be able to see several saddled Pokémon through the large, north windows, including a Jolteon and Flareon of great size.

"You wouldn't happen to be a fan of Pokémon racing, would you? The Silph Cup?" The Gym Leader asked, curious if she would recognize one of the largest sports-related event series in the region. His mind raced about whether there would even be a Silph Cup next year. What city would be willing to host it in such uncertain times, given it would almost certainly attract Rocket's attention?

Belatedly, it occurred to Blossom that she must seem odd. She debated whether to go into her recent move and her intent to travel across Hoenn so as to familiarize herself with the region and people she was to aid, but that might be too much information... Before she could decide, the Gym Leader unknowingly saved her from the hole she'd dug herself.

"Indeed I am," she said brightly, glad for the reminder of this Gym's theme. She shouldn't have forgotten, but there was so much to keep track of... Setting that aside, she smiled again. "I grew up watching the Silph Cup and all the other big events with my grandfather, who also taught me to ride. I've never attended any in person, though."
