She isn't able to say much - do much in the way of responding to the words that leave a sombre feeling in the air, evoking so many questions she wants to ask, about the thoughts that are behind and about the words that are left unsaid in face of someone who most possibly doesn't understand the full picture, and yet still is curious to know as she looks up, mouth opening to form words. But before any can leave her mouth, she sees the Falinks Squad rushing over with a Protect, eyes burning in determination as they are now faced with a threat of an unknown kind. Some thing that she never saw before.[break]

It gives her enough of a time to register the situation - of lights bursting the sea apart as something emerges near the coastal area, full of an emotion she cannot pinpoint. Something like ... anger, perhaps, or a territorial something, though she doesn't know where it stems from. Why should there be such a feeling when it only seems to have popped into existence? Is she missing something? "Squad, Quinn - by my side!" she immediately moves to release the Misdreavus from her ball and command the Falinks to stay alert by her, as she moves to shield the tiny Skarmory on her shoulder or releases it to return to Navy himself.[break]

A brilliantly illuminated Dhelmise is surging forth, a wailing sound echoing across the entire area - alerting any Pokémon and construction workers nearby as their surroundings is filled with voices of terror. Yet, Vespa stands, terrified - determined. "Squad, continue with a Protect - Quinn, give me a Shadow Ball-!" her voice rings loudly across the scenery. But just as the Misdreavus is gearing up to send a sphere of darkness across, it disperses in the extraordinary light. "... Shit."

Tiny is oblivious to danger. Danger is part and parcel for the Skarmory chick. He was born from strife, and so he finds nothing unusual about these circumstances. While darkness and other forces battle this noble Gyarados, radiant and pure, Tiny casts a spotlight onto the squad. It draws the Gyarados’s ire. Attacks that might have otherwise struck innocents are aimed at the spartan shield wall, finding no purchase there.[break][break]
“Gyarados.” Curses Navy. “It’s always gotta be Gyarados.” His brother’s first Pokemon haunts him like a specter, throwing itself at him again and again and again in whatever form Hoenn’s latest calamity decides to take. Those words are the only grumbling he allows himself. Otherwise, he’s all business. A tera orb is already in his hand, along with a cavalry saber that seems to appear from nowhere.[break][break]
“Roland! Make like the Light Brigade.” Whatever his message means, the Iron Valiant understands. He grasps the thrown weapon in one hand, a crown of electricity appearing atop his head. While civilians run from the area in controlled panic, Roland rushes forward in a wild charge against the big, tough, mean Gyarados.[break][break]
“Two of ‘em.” He notes the Dhelmise. “Got any, huh,” a moment as he remembers what Dhelmise is weak to, “fire or dark types? Ice works too.” He does not tell her to leave, for heroism is a choice and Vespa has made hers.

Fear is such a fascinating, intriguing, necessary and disposable emotion to have, Vespa would say. There is nothing rational about what she sees, therefore, it seems only logical that the emotion she is feeling upon facing such a thing should be equally as irrational - being, courage. Some misplaced bravery. A surge of idiocy in its finest form as she witnesses not only the glaring light of brilliance, but also the resilience of her partners in crime and battle - the Falinks welcoming the Skarmory's Spotlight all the same, each preparing meticulously to form as much of an impenetrable shield as they can. The Misdreavus mirrors what else there is with courage - the underlying fear, but there is trust, too, and she hasn't felt quite this way in her whole life.[break]

And most of all, she isn't doing this alone, either.[break]

"So there is a story with you and Gyarados-?" she finds herself asking before being able to think about whether or not it's wise to ask in this situation when strange Pokémon, emerging from the sea like a warning, a drowned beacon resurfacing, are attacking them and any bystanders, but ... uh ... well. Curiosity kills the Delcatty, huh?[break]

Nonetheless, there is actually an awkward silence when he inquires about ... pretty much all the types she does not have in this moment. Sure, in a last-ditch effort, she would consider having Dorothy the Ditto transform into something useful, but she also really is still trying to get it stay in its form, too ... And stubbornness wins once more. "Uh ... at home," the young student has to admit, hoping this won't make Navy consider sending her back to safety or so. First, is truly anywhere in Hoenn 'safe' right now, she wonders ... "But I can still fight! We will Not Retreat!" Determination is the most she can offer, but there is plenty to go with right now as the Falinks gear up for the next waves of luminous attacks, while the Misdreavus is throwing another Shadow Ball at the figures.
