"Thanks for coming with," Cillian murmurs to his husband, when they've separated from the rest of the crowd allowed into the safari. "Really didn't want to be alone."[break][break]

Ordinarily, Cillian quite enjoyed his solitary walks through the park. But in the aftermath of Sootopolis and Petalburg, with their home in shambles, being alone was an excuse to overthink. Temp knew well the consternated expression that befell Cillian's face when he was drowning in his own head, and he was always quick to help pull him out of it.[break][break]

It was on the endless list of things he loved about the man.[break][break]

Cillian's Shadow Noivern wings overhead, circling as it hunts.

A hum leaves Tempest in reply to his husband, hand snaking out to try and tangle with Cillian Quinn's. The last of summer's heat bleeds away slowly as they part from the crowd, the start of winter's chill clinging in the air. It's not quite cold yet; just enough coolness to brush over sweat-damp skin to provide gentle relief.[break][break]

Behind them, a dragon stomps. The Walking Wake shakes her head, steam coming from her annoyed nose. Her jaws are cinched shut like one might a crocodile, bright red wraps keeping her from sinking feral teeth into whatever is closest. The ancient dinosaur narrows her eyes at Cillian before huffing and pushing past the two men; she barrels ahead on quick steps and into the weeds down the path. No doubt to flush out some game.[break][break]

"Ah' 'course. What kinda husband would I be if I didn't?" It's said with a grin, with a gleam in Tempest's eyes.

Cillian locks eyes with the Walking Wake as it snorts at him. He's sure that it would love nothing more than to tear out his throat, but the bindings around its jaw keep it tame.[break][break]

Fuck with me, he challenges silently. I dare you.[break][break]

He's itching for a fight. But she turns away, and Cillian's focus returns to the warmth of Temp's hand in his.[break][break]

"You don't owe me anything." He squeezes Temp's hand. "You could've said no. I'm just glad you didn't."

A soft huff of a laugh.[break][break]

"This is good for me, too, ya know." Though he doesn't go into detail on why or how. "And I get to spend time with my husband." Temp gives Cillian Quinn's hand a soft squeeze with that. "What ain't to like about that?" [break][break]

It was a tense time. They'd lost their home. Their city. But they still had each other, and wasn't that supposed to be the most important thing?[break][break]

The Walking Wake trots back from around a corner, a soaked and unconscious Galarian Corsola clutched in her jaws. She sinks her fangs in, seeming intent on crushing it. Tempest frowns and tossed one of his safari balls at it.[break][break]

Then a pause as he realizes what this means.[break][break]

"How's she get her muzzle off?"

Temp doesn't elaborate, and Cillian doesn't press him. This is an opportunity for them to take their minds off their troubles, not wallow in them. He'll ask later, perhaps, when they're snuggled in bed.[break][break]

For now, his attention is drawn to the Walking Wake.[break][break]

Suddenly he's a lot less confident about his earlier silent challenge.[break][break]

A sharp whistle calls back his Noivern from where it's been ranging, just in case. The draconic bat returns with a struggling Fennekin between its claws. Its shriek of answer to Cillian's call turns into a BOOMBURST when the underboss clicks his tongue, and the unconscious fox is dropped unceremoniously at his feet.[break][break]

He doesn't take his eyes off the Paradox as he tosses a ball.[break][break]

"That gonna be a problem...?"[break][break]

Steam rises like a cloud around the Walking Wake's mantle, eyes locked in on her captor and his partner. A predator getting ready to strike.[break][break]

She flinches when a fleeing Fennekin darts from a nearby bush, crossing the wrong path in it's haste to escape; a STEAM GEYSER drowns the poor fox, pushing the damp and unconscious pokemon to Tempest's feet. He frowns at that as well, tossing a pokeball at the little silver fox.[break][break]

Temp steps over the wet puddle of where the fox's body had been, letting go of Cillian Quinn's hand as he does so. The Walking Wake growls, hunching and tensing.[break][break]

"Yup." He pops the 'p' as he says it. "Back me up?"[break][break]

Eyes narrow from both parties.[break][break]

Then both lunge.

It was, in fact, going to be a problem.[break][break]

There was nothing they couldn't face together.[break][break]

Cillian sidesteps, nearly tripping over a patch of odd-coloured Pumpkaboo. He ignores them after regaining his footing, focused entirely on the murderous Paradox.[break][break]

He whistles, clicks.[break][break]

Noivern sets up a TAILWIND to grant them speed.

The Walking Wake pounds on powerful hind-legs, jaws wide and ready to snap down bone-crushing force on her trainer. The Tailwind surprises her, allow Tempest and Cillian Quinn to dip out of the way with speed unexpected. She tries to grind to a halt, Dragon Claws stomping down on the delicate Pumpkaboo that were still in the patch. A few small ones cry and flee but one is half mushed. Temp knows he will end up catching that one, too...[break][break]

"Can you get your Noivern to take her from behind? I want to grab her." But with her ready and aiming for them, it would be hard for them to get close. Even if Cillian's Avatar Abilities. The Walking Wake doesn't seem to notice the Noivern, though, too focused on her Trainer.

Like a matador, Cillian tempts the raging bull that is Walking Wake. He's careful to stay just out of range of her snapping jaws, utilizing his miasma-granted speed to dodge back whenever she draws too close.[break][break]

But his stamina is not endless.[break][break]

He clicks his tongue in response to Temp's ask.[break][break]

Like the talented INFILTRATOR it was, Noivern SNEAKS through SHADOW to appear behind the Paradox. A point-blank DRAGON PULSE to the back looks to catch her off-guard so the Noivern can sink in its claws and hold her still.[break][break]

A Cubone cowers behind Cillian's leg, apparently startled by the fighting, and Cillian coaxes it with a pokeball. Another for Rocket's collection. Poor thing.

The Walking Wake shrieks in rage as she's pinned down by the Noivern. She turns her head to try and snap at the other dragon type, lashing her tail and shaking her body.[break][break]

Tempest takes his chance to hop onto his pokemon's back. The loose reigns hanging at her side are snatched up, which Tempest uses to try and wrangle his struggling pokemon back. It's much like watching someone try and break a horse. It also might beckon Cillian Quinn to when he was trying to teach Tempest how to ride horseback, too. How he had taken instead to riding on his Kommo-o. The special saddle that the blond had ordered for his husband.[break][break]

The other Cubone, it's brother stolen away, manages to hide in the weeds. It cries silently from this new loss.
