As far as places to find Steel-type Pokémon go, a tunnel is not that bad; although, of course, it's lucky for Marvie that they aren't afraid of the dark. Hanna and Chenbaren are with them just in case their flashlight runs out of battery.

... Or in case there's a battle, she supposes, but those footsteps don't sound like a Pokémon's. Her guess is, sadly, confirmed when she lifts her flashlight — slowly and carefully, as she's not trying to shine it in the eyes of either human or Pokémon — to see another teenager.

Does she have to say anything? She probably should, shouldn't she, since she shone her flashlight on him? Darn it. She should've turned the thing off entirely, not lifted it. Although, she couldn't have done that, because she would have put herself at a disadvantage against an attacker.

The acrobat would rather be attacked than make small talk, actually, but there's nothing else for it.

"Spit that out." Clover put his hands on his hips to emphasize his annoyance. Of course, Archen paid it no mind. The two of them had been partners for far too long for the fossil pokemon to sweat Clover's opinion. The two locked eyes, daring each other, but Clover broke the stillness first. They lunged and wrestled with Archen to try and free the pebbles out of his mouth. "You! Spit! It! Out!"[break][break]

Archen squawked with a shrill tone that, honestly, sounded like he was being murdered rather than wrestled with. But the cries of distress forced him to drop the pebbles. "Was that so hard?" Archen squawked indignantly. Clover released him and dusted off her hands, sighing in a brief relief that was interrupted by the presence of another trainer. Clover perked up at the sight of her though, happy to have company in the creepy tunnel. "Hey, yeah I am! I haven't been in the tunnel before, but I figured there would be some helpful pokemon in here. If you know your way around, I'd be happy to follow you."[break][break]

The tunnel held too many splitting routes to be a comfortable place to travel. Of course, that was why most didn't visit without some sort of guide.

Well, this other Trainer seemed friendly. Like, too much so. A part of Marvie was tempted to claim they'd never been to the tunnel either and leave the stranger to fend for herself, but they already lied enough without choosing to do so. Besides, it would be nice to actually help someone, wouldn't it? Inwardly, they braced themself and quirked their lips upward.

"I know my way around, yeah," they answered. "It's been a while, but I doubt the tunnel's changed much. You can call me Marvie."

Without further ado she set out again, not bothering to check if the other teenager was following or even to look at the map she'd brought. Instead, she oriented herself by sound. She could hear water dripping in the distance, the footfall and shifting of their small party, and... There. The clang of a bell, somewhere to left. She quickened her step and marched right over, again without even a glance back.

A Clodsire and a Bronzong were engaged in some kind of dispute, it turned out, with the former's spines showing and the latter being responsible for the noise. They looked over to Chenbaren and quirked their eyebrow, but the Alolan Raichu hesitated. So did Hanna.

"Oh come on now," Marvie muttered, stepping back far enough to run, gaining momentum and leaping over the two wild Pokémon. She landed squarely in-between the pair, to stunned silence from them — and agitated cries from her own duo. "What? You wouldn't do your part, so I did it myself. As for you two: Bronzong, I've got a place for you. Clodsire, you get to keep your territory, so tuck those spines back in. Sound good?"

Clover breaks into a big grin. "Clover." He offers a hand, but the dispute turns his head. He's thinking of the next best plan of action when Marvie jumps into the thick of it. Admittedly, it takes them a few moments to wrap their head around what they've seen. "Are you a pokemon tamer?" He comes in close to pet the Clodsire's broad head, catching it once it seems to have fully relaxed. [break][break]

"Usually, I only see Hoyeons get so close to pokemon in their native environment." The native people of Hoenn lived inside nature rather than outside of it. "Well, them and Rangers." He didn't see an armband on her to signify she's a Ranger, so maybe she was a behavioralist. Archen clawed his way up Clover's back to perch on his shoulder, assessing Marvie openly.

Oh. So it wasn't just Hanna and Chenbaren who were taken aback by the way they'd handled this, huh... Marvie really didn't get what the big deal was, but they took the question seriously all the same.

"In a way, I guess I am," she replied after a moment. "I don't tame Pokémon for a living or anything, but there are some tamers in my troupe I've learned from. My circus troupe, I mean."

Noticing the Archen's curiosity, she winked at it. A wild Aggron lurking nearby is assessing her openly too, and she figures she might as well satisfy everyone's curiosity since there's something in it for her.

"Although, all of us end up learning to approach Pokémon firmly," she goes on, slowly heading towards the Aggron. "It takes a strict training regimen until you're ready for the circus ring, both for humans and Pokémon, and you have to be really connected to each other too. Plus, anything can happen on the road, so I've been training in hand to hand combat since I was a kid... All that stuff adds up."

The words add up, too, they think wryly; they've spoken enough that they're tired. At least it was easy to barrel right past the uglier parts of their life, to pretend everything they and CASPIAN LEVESQUE learned is for the sake of self-preservation alone. At least the Aggron didn't shy away while they approached, listening intently all the while instead. Marvie holds up a PokéBall without another word.

Marvie got cooler with every word. Clover's mouth was agape at the circus troupe mention, growing more and more awed as she explained how capable she was. "That's so sick," he offered in return. Hoenn held a wide variety of trainers, but Clover had met primarily rangers and fellow Rocket grunts. [break][break]

Marvie's calmness as Aggron approaches leaves Clover responding in kind. Thankfully, the large pokemon doesn't attack. [break][break]

"I get the connection point. The Hoyeon live in harmony with nature rather than trying to tame it. My people in the Land sect prefer ground and fire types, but I find that fliers are more attracted to me innately. Archen's my first partner, but I have a small gang of Oricorios you might meet someday. They're very energetic." Those birds were also performers by nature. Perhaps, they could perform in a circus, too. "Did your first pokemon partner get assigned to you in your troupe?"
