it has been some time since she has revisited the journal's pages, but with care, she carries the basket of flowers into her study. she sets them in a vase and fills it with water. and only when she's sat with the journal half-cracked does the weathered parchment catch her eye. 

she stares at the runes for a long, long time. until her eyes smart and all that knotting in her chest threatens to overwhelm her.

losing track. but i won't stop trying to get home. to get her home. even she's given up, content to carry on in this wasteland. why is it i can never keep the world together? i look at them, at the way they give up, give in, and i wish i could. i wish, for one second, i could stop fighting too.
