An eerie quietness had settled on the route leading out of Petalburg. It once was abuzz with the hum of battle, two side warring to push their advantage and seize the disadvantage. Still, the line had barely budged. Rocket retained a strong hold and all the League could do was try to stop them from moving deep into the Hoenn mainland.

She couldn’t help but wonder what may have been different if she could have been here or in Sootopolis, regardless of being an avatar or not. Could they have saved both cities? Likely not, but it's hard not to dwell on the ‘what ifs’ if they could have been so drastically different.

So, she stood calmly, the steady and comforting hum of a little Ribombee by her side, overlooking the quiet frontlines; the deep breath before the plunge.

Eva crossed her arms, peering over the quiet countryside with a critical glare. It reminded her of Pallet Town. The rolling hills, the small town, the country style homes that dotted the vast wilderness between them. Slow living. Quiet living. Until war turned their world upside down. The similarities didn’t stop there, both would burn the same under the rekindled flames of the same blood red R.

Lost deep in her thought, she didn’t even notice the little Charjabug inch across their path. The curious Ribombee slowly approached it and was met with a little SPARK in warning. The pokemon jumped, backing away quickly to let it go about its day.

The next pokemon to interrupt their musings was not as gentle as the Charjabug. As usual, Eva wasn’t paying attention. Her mind simmered in the boiling pot of war strategy. The small Capsakid running at her with a bold HEADBUTT didn’t shake her from her stewing. The Ribombee was forced to act quickly, swooping into the intercept the HEADBUTT and get knocked onto their back.

This finally stirred Eva from her dissociation and she jumped, startled, spinning on her heels to face the danger. She expected to find some Rocket grunt but instead found the small, riled up, charging Capsakid. It was . . . pretty cute how angry they were.

“Quick! POLLEN PUFF!”

A cloud of pollen poured out of the Rimbombee’s fluttering wings. The cloud was so thick, it obscured the now confused silhouette of the Capsakid. A breath of silence, then the cloud exploded, launching the Capsakid sky high.

“Uh-oh,” too much. Eva ran and looked up, positioning herself to catch the Capsakid on its descent. The little creature was completely knocked out in her arms, “Well, that was super effective, I guess,” she grabbed an empty pokeball from her pocket and tapped it against the dual type.
