It was rare that he and Jayden hung out with it present. But for now, it seemed normal. "At least with me-" he began to explain before, his eyes snapped away form the path ahead and back at the frosty duo. It's a pleasant surprise the wings he's so carefully hidden don't flare up immediately as the ruin beast prowls forward. [break][break]

Jayden however...his gaze meets his admin's and he felt himself on the back foot, always so eager to pull back. A cut off hiss at the back of his throat sends his Rotom spinning away, darting forward to scout for B roll while he tried to damage control on his day off. "Th- that-" he swallowed, steadying his voice. "That with me the woods won't suffer an environmental crisis." he said, eyes carefully shifting back to the Ruin Beast as he smoothed this over. There's a beat of silence before he added, still casual even as his posture made him submissive. "That's a far bigger threat than just being- scary." he said, carefully talking his way back into good graces, as he always seemed to have to do.

He dives into his regrets and Mint glances at the ruin beast before backing away. He feels the vague fluttering of his wings, ready to attack should it give him a reason to. He really did not feel like having it out though. Not in these clothes. He mulls Jayden's words over before offering something for him to chew on, if he so wished. "Did you know, not every secret is guaranteed to keep? My job is to make it as hard as possible to get out, right? But it's never perfect." [break][break]

"Recruits are like that. You can't guarantee one won't defect. You just have to think of how to better your approach next time. Build that buy in, or loyalty." he continues forward with a shrug. He presses forward into the dark underbrush. [break][break]

"ANYWAY, I'm here for the spookies and you're bringing me down." he stated waving it all away as he tried to entice whatever hidden horrors were stuck here.

words brought no clarity, and jayden was forced to continue to stare at his best friend in confusion.

[break][break] because disagree as they might on certain topics, jayden knew that there was no part of mint frost that would reflect in Isaac Merlo when it came to the topic of his defection.

[break][break] 'at least,' a quiet, HATEFUL voice sneered back in the back of his mind. 'for now.'

[break][break] after all, how many people had already left him? how many people had jayden cross devoted himself to — to put blood, sweat and tears into their training and their growth — only to be lacking when the cards had fallen.

[break][break] jayden looked away from mint then, against the whistling backdrop of the trees. the shadows that threatened to lurk in the dark, encroaching upon them like the deviled beasts that lingered against the edge of doubt.

[break][break] "anyway, I'm here for the spookies and you're bringing me down."

[break][break] "you were the one who started it," he pointed out, though without heat. there was no point in arguing semantics, not when they had a job to do. "but very well."

[break][break] "you want something to be afraid of? fine."

[break][break] the admin made a sweeping motion with his hand, drawing ice that had settled on the forest floor back into his palm in a fluid arc. the shards slid like glass daggers, their sharp edges catching the light and reflecting the admin's face — eyes that mirrored in the icy surfaces, cold and unblinking. he waited until both his own porygon and the other's rotom were prepared to capture video and then — it happened. color drained from his already pale face, his eyes narrowed into razor-thin slits and a feeling of emptiness swallowed his irises, replaced only by an ever-growing hollow void.

"Then what?" he grumbled, focused on not tripping over a fallen log as he stuck to their path. Jayden is silent before he speaks up again and Mint felt the irritation prickle in the back of his head. Wings beg to emote but he doesn't allow it, simply shooting back a "Did not!" in childish protest before moving on. [break][break]

He nearly sasses the admin once more before the air seemed to grow colder. Gut instinct spreads, and he felt the cold chills run up his spine and set him on edge. As he slows down, trying to rationalize his way out of this. But it's unmistakable. Jayden's too close, and so is that Ruin Beast. He knows where the danger is coming from. [break][break]

His rotom finally starts back as Mint is inching forward. They see the duo behind its trainer, and get ready as the mood changes. [break][break]

The command sets off Mint's fight or flight, avatar or not. He's a survivalist above all else. He's been hunted before and he knows what it feels like. Mint manages a look to verify as Jayden disappears, and instead sync's to his patron. The Cursed bear their fangs at him and run as he is pushed on the back foot once more. They leap, arcing upwards and Mint dips low and takes off to the right, moving out of the way and nearly circling the dangerous pair as he tore off into the woods without a second thought. "What the FUCK?!" the hiss is both parts terror and frustration. as his Rotomphone trails after him, looking back form the Cursed giving chase.

ever since their monumental encounter in the hot springs all those years ago, a bond had developed between the two avatars over the years, only growing stronger with time. jayden, who was always eager to invest in the recruitment and inevitable success in their grunts, had poured his blood and sweat into making mint frost the force he was today — into NEON. a blood-thirsty beast, powerful enough to wreak havoc in rocket's mantle, should the need ever arise.

[break][break] the beast's uniform, painstakingly handcrafted and digitized into perfection by fern delaney, was nowhere to be found.

[break][break] no, this was mint frost — the streamer, publicity figure, and internet celebrity that he'd found on that ranch, all those years ago.

[break][break] although, even jayden had to admit. he could tell the developments in the other man's form from the way that he sprinted across the DARK terrain — lithe and speedy, built more for quickness than durability. but speed wouldn't save him.

[break][break] CURSES were faster.

[break][break] raising both arms, several ICY BLADES cut through the sky towards the fleeing beast.

[break][break] "YOU'VE TRESPASSED," his RUINOUS voice thundered through the forest, as the wind picked up around them, howling with terrifying intensity. the very air seemed alive with the power of ANCIENT SPIRITS, their presence rippling in unseen waves, as the earth beneath them groaned, shuddering as ghostly images flickered into view right before mint frost's eyes.

He hears the danger before he sees it. Surprisingly, starlight filters through cuts made in the tree branches above as thick foliage is slashes through with ease by old swords. Mint hadn't felt this since that meeting in the Cave of Origin. It's not bad- he's more lucid but now he is the sole target, instead of one of many. Mint can't hide amongst his peers. He doesn't have time to brace behind a shield and think his way out of this one. Instinct pushes him forward. [break][break]
 
"Trespassed WHAT?!" he screamed ducking under a low branch and hitting a hard left as the wind seemed to screams with indignance. His heart is in his throat, his head pulses loudly as adrenaline shoots through him in order to survive. His rotom dutifully turns back to capture footage of the Cursed and Ruin Beast giving chase before catching up to Mint as the streamer tore through the forest. [break][break] 

He cursed and hisses and screams, stumbling back as he nearly slammed into what looked like a couple of eviscerated Rocket grunts. The flash of glowing red eyes form a pokemon corpse corral him, forcing him aorund thick trees and boulders. He nearly eats it, tripping on a root only to angrily slam his other foot down and somehow keep the balance. "PAY WHAT?!" Mint screamed, breathing hard as he kept forward. "I don't have cash on me!" He's scrambling, trying to go uphill and away from gnarled thorn bushes and over grown weeds.

[attr="class","textbox"] as they sprint through the cursed woods, the air grows frigid — colder and colder with every step. it feels as if the deep HATRED that always courses through the rocket admin and ruinous beast is forged into the howling winds itself. each gust carries whispers of buried memories: a RESENTMENT, an ENVY, a deeply-rooted FEAR.

[break][break] be it through delusions or willpower, the bells of prophecy toll in the distance, their trumpets reverberating clearly across the cavernous plane. leaves and branches tear away from the trees, falling fragments of a shattered past, as memories are resurrected right before the streamer as he runs for his life.

[break][break] "did you see the king when he proposed? he and fern delaney are so lovely together. so complete. they don't need anyone else."

[break][break] "imagine that - his knights caught in the cupboard again. how disgraceful. a shame to the crown."

[break][break] "perhaps that one should have his title stripped. he doesn't deserve it."

[break][break] whispers of a faint memory, buried in poison and prophecy, coil through the forest like a curse. frost overtakes the earth beneath mint frost's feet, a merciless ICY STORM stabbing its frozen shards into all that it touches. as the blizzard rages, ancient echoes resurface: the clash of sword against shield, the scattering of black crystals against the forest floor.

[break][break] a BROKEN BLADE whizzes past mint frost's head, impaling itself upon a tree.

[break][break] from the shadows, the voice grows louder, sharper, more unforgiving:

[break][break] "FOR YOUR SACRILEGE."

[break][break] "GIVE YOUR NAME IN BLOOD, KINGSGUARD."

[break][break] at the top of the cliff, a pair of raging red eyes greet mint frost, glowing like embers in the storm's chaos. a towering URSALUNA blocks the path ahead, it's wrath as immovable as the ground it stands on.
