petalburg is quiet.

[break][break] a city of ruin, cloaked in the aftermath of a fractured region, it seems surreal that the city should be empty. and it isn't — at least, not when it comes to the other areas of the town. rocket grunts trudge methodically through the wreckage, clearing debris and tending to the remants that demand care. priam conrad had called it, after all. kanto's presence was no empty gesture, it's resources and influence not without merit. the gears of a machine that had already begun to term, relentless in it's purpose, pulling Petalburg's fractured bones into piece, piece by painstaking piece.

[break][break] and with Elisabeth Fiorelli's return - both to the living world and to the city itself - the broken rubble of a city is a garden that deserves careful tending.

[break][break] perhaps that is the reason that the abirtor of the city, the man who's knuckles still held remains of crushed petals and dried blood, can be found not in the town's center but towards the city's far-most edge, examining unearthed plates left in the wake of regirock's wrath.

[break][break] the shadows behind howard slayte suddenly distorts, a ripple of darkness unfolding as a figure steps out from the depths of a PHANTOM FORCE portal, bringing with him a familiar chill. framed by the glimmer of his illumina dragapult, jayden cross's gaze locks onto howard slayte, his expression as cold and unyielding as one of his HATEFUL daggers.

amidst the rubble, the cursed's ice-blue eyes pierce through the archeologist, unblinking.

Jayden Cross was a hard man to shake. Ever since their first meeting in Sootopolis, Howard had the suspicion that he was the type of man to sink his fangs into his prey and refuse to let go, regardless of how desperately they shook and how quickly they ran. Howard Slayte was a fast runner, on account of his oft-frazzled nerves and tendency to retreat.

Unfortunately, Jayden was faster. Chien-Pao was faster. Hate was faster.

Howard really needed to work on his stamina if he was going to outrun them all.

"Admin Cross." The admin looked up from the clipboard in his hand. He handed it off to a nearby aide who quickly gave the two admins room. Now more than ever, Howard relied on the support of grunts. There was too much to do, and only one Howard. The God General had given him quite the task indeed. "Jayden."

He corrected himself. They were equals. There was no reason for Howard to defer. Yet more often than not, Jayden felt taller than him. It was hard to defer.

"I've been busy. Petalburg is a large city, and the terrain has fundamentally changed. It means that our building plans must change too." He brushed a strand of increasingly unkempt hair behind his ear to regard his colleague. Weary magenta eyes met blue extracted from the core of a glacier. "And it means my nights grow long."

They did. Still, Howard feared this meeting. He had been avoiding it.

"Your clothes are dusty. You've been looking for a while, now." He sighed, his breath frosting slightly. "What do you want?"

[break][break] "There is much work left, but I agree. Petalburg has changed," he agreed. Looking at it's landscape now, it was hard to imagine that the city had once been a central stronghold in the League's forces. Though much of the initial work had already been cleared, the dead corpses of a cruel battle long since removed, the brutality of the event still lingered. "Thanks to you."

[break][break] "And Underboss Elisabeth Fiorelli."

[break][break] "I look forward to it's future."

[break][break] Chien Pao steps forward beside him, it's large paws traversing over rock until it can breathe in the same frosted air as howard slayte. Cool blue eyes observe him, this spineless human, so alive in this moment.

[break][break] So easy to kill, perhaps.

[break][break] "We are all busy," he said with a nod, letting the black ice crackle along his arms. At first, his new powers had felt painful, wrong. Now, the cracks in his skin were simply one of him, forged in the agony that was his current life. "So I suppose, I apologize for not coming sooner."

[break][break] "Your clothes are dusty. You've been looking for a while, now."

[break][break] "What do you want?"

[break][break] He blinks, owlishly.

[break][break] "What do I want?" He moves his arm, facing his palm upwards, as if to offer his hand to hold. Just as he'd held it before, when stabbing him with a needle, watching the dynergy flow beneath his veins. "You know what I want, Howard."
