With both arms, she hoists herself up onto the stallion's back, grunting as she shifts into position and pulls her hair back over her shoulders. She's soaked to the bone and freezing, her fingertips white and stiff.[break][break]

Orion gets onto Arcanine's back and the dog whines in anticipation, shaking himself briefly. Water sprays, but he's otherwise mostly dry, and so warm.[break][break]

With a sigh, Stormy pats Apollo's neck, the horse's skin jumping at her every touch. He wants to run, he's begging. Arcanine can see the look in his eye and he matches it, fully prepared to turn this into a game.[break][break]

"Hang on tight, Arcanine is really fast."[break][break]

She nods as Orion does, indicating their preparedness. There's a devious smile on her face as the tension of the situation melts into her attempt to just have fun. They were almost home.[break][break]

Apollo leaps forward, kicking up chunks of dirt in his wake. His mane and tail billow their flames, sizzling as the rain lands in it. But he's nearly flying, and Arcanine is matching pace, panting and lolling his tongue as he glances at Stormy from time to time. [break][break]

"Take us home, Arcanine."[break][break]

She shouts to him over the rain, gesturing to the dark shadow of a city that she only hoped was what they had been looking for.

Arcanine and Rapidash appear more excited than anxious at the prospect of charging through the storm, and their hyperactive energy helps the ranger to relax as he takes comfort in the warmth of the dog's fur.

Stormy warns him that the Arcanine is fast, and Orion thinks himself prepared as he leans forward and holds on tight. He can feel the excitement as a tremor through the Pokemon's muscles as it squares up against the Rapidash and — all right, he was absolutely not prepared.

It's alarming at first, but he quickly adjusts to the pace and manages to grin as they surge forward at incredible speeds. He can barely hear Stormy over the thunder of Rapidash's hooves, the wind roaring in his ears and the panting of the Arcanine as it keeps pace with its equine companion. Orion lets out a whooping laugh, the last of the tension melting away with the sheer relief of being on his way home. He thinks Katas would have loved to have been a part of this; the Absol loved to run almost as much as Rapidash.

Dark silhouettes begin to take the shape of bridges and buildings as they close in upon the city, and he'd recognize the atmosphere of home anywhere. By the time they come to a stop at the edge of the city, Orion's ceased to care about how soaked his clothes are. He's home.

"Thank you," he says to Stormy, and gives the Arcanine a grateful scratch behind the ears. "And thank you, too. You went above and beyond."

He's not good at putting appreciation into words, but — hopefully his expression says it all.

As they run, Arcanine begins to howl, throwing his head up to let the eerie sound whistle past his teeth. It mingles with the thunder, his voice sounding powerful.[break][break]

What had started as a dangerous flight mission had ended with an exhilarating sprint in a thunderstorm. Both Pokemon fly across the wet grass with incredible speed and momentum, never faltering. The Rapidash grunts with every length, and he almost glows with energy.[break][break]

It doesn't take them long to begin seeing the silhouettes of Fortree turn into actual, physical objects. The smell of trees amplified through the rain becomes apparent as Rapidash and Arcanine settle back into a trot. Their legs tremble at their spent energy, and as Orion slides back onto his own feet, the dog Pokemon will proceed to shower both of them with even more water.[break][break]

He leans in gratefully for the ear scratch, and Stormy smiles as she witnesses their shared friendship.[break][break]

"A little rain never hurt anyone. I'm glad we made it, even if we had to make some changes to our game plan."[break][break]

She scratches the back of her head awkwardly, not sure how else to continue the conversation.[break][break]

"Well, I better go find a hotel to stay in for the night. It's a bit of a trek even still to get back to Lavaridge. See you around, ranger."[break][break]

Stormy grins, whistling for Arcanine to come back to her, before returning the both of them and tucking her soaked jacket in closer. She offers Orion a final wave before she begins jogging down the street in search of the nearest hotel.
