pokemon ♂: torrent - misty terrain, hyper voice, moon blast, bubble beam, sing, sparkling aria

the attack was a glancing one, a brush of the sharp beak potent enough to result in a deep cut. crimson mist flowed from primarina's injured flank, a look of shock upon his face before he sought to retaliate. a hyper voice flowed from his pretty maw, the harsh noise that was generated lancing through the water. he sought to fracture the bird's focus, all-too aware that a direct hit would likely result in his collapse.

he sought to distance himself as he did so, wishing to offer the bird a wide birth.

'i should have expected as much.'

the gym leader had hoped that the bird would be discouraged from submerging itself in water - but both it and their human counterpart braved committed to diving in in hopes of scoring a hit. cait could only hope that her primarina was agile enough to manage.

- primarina used hyper voice ! -

A resounding splash as the metallic bird crashes into the water is followed by a sharp sound that makes Gavin's ears ring with its pitch. Though his view of the battling Pokemon was partially obscured, he hears the angered screech of his avian companion.[break][break]

"Shake it off!" he orders. "Defog!"[break][break]

The pervasive mists spread across the field by the Primarina were no doubt proving to be an annoyance for the Corviknight... as well as its natural agility beneath the waters. The normal-type attack used against the Corviknight was thankfully resisted by the hulking bird, and Gavin hears droplets scatter across stone as it pulls itself out of the water and beats its wings.[break][break]

With any luck, the efforts to DEFOG the surrounding area would improve its ability to zero in on the dual-type.

the defog proved surprisingly effective, the formerly manifested misty terrain beginning to thin out before being dispelled entirely. and the water that was frightfully clean and clear exposed the primarina easily enough. the pokemon noticed this quickly, angling his head a certain way to stare in alarm at the visible bird whom flew above their very heads.

'oh.'

cait mouthed the word, having been caught off guard by the brilliant tactic.

'if misty terrain's gone then maybe...'

"sing!"

but did they have the time for a lullaby? a direct hit would spell disaster. and the failure rate of the song was frightfully high.

'we have to risk it.'

the pokemon raised his head from the water, opening his maw in attempt to produce a siren's song for the bird.

- misty terrain has been dispelled! -

- primarina begins to sing ! -

Amber eyes gleam with premature triumph as the misty haze begins to subside; Corviknight's own beady gaze has fixed itself upon its prey, and the Primarina seems to be on the verge of fainting.[break][break]

He does not expect the gym leader's tactic.[break][break]

Shit! Had Corviknight been trained with commands such as Screech, Gavin thinks they might've been able to drown out the siren's song. Corivknight's irritated quarks are not loud enough to be effective, however, and the scientist can only watch and clench his jaw as the metallic avian succumbs to the temptation of sleep. Its talons find purchase on the ground, wings folding as its head droops.[break][break]

"Corviknight!" Gavin manages to maintain his calm tone, though it bears the edge of annoyance. "Wake up!"[break][break]

The bird, of course, does no such thing.

primarina emerged from the water, a grim look upon his face as he glanced down at his marred flank. what had once been a pristine expanse of skin had been partially ruined by a flesh wound, which sluggishly wept crimson. he leaned down to give it a few hasty licks, lifting his head with a slightly smeared muzzle to meet gavin's gaze as he flashed pointed teeth and grinned smugly.

it was a momentary victory. but a victory was a victory, was it not?

"they're not finished," cait warned.

the girl eyed the bird warily, aware that the spell wouldn't last forever. they had a small window of time to act, her primarina already worn down by the battle that had taken place so far.

"bubble beam."

while she didn't fancy the idea of attacking a creature so vulnerable, cait felt as though she had little choice in the matter. she had to press their advantage while it lasted - feelings be damned. her pokemon obeyed eagerly, a barrage of bubbles launching themselves at the limp steel-type.

- primarina uses bubble beam ! -

Gavin's lips purse as the Primarina catches his gaze, mocking him with a toothy grin. He does not dignify the insult with any reaction beyond this, carefully maintaining his composure and shifting amber eyes toward his own Pokemon.[break][break]

He whistles, sharp, and the bird does not move.[break][break]

Worried that it might have slipped into unconsciousness, but unwilling to give up until an official call was made, he twines his fingers together and watches as their aquatic foe releases a barrage of bubbles toward the steel-type.[break][break]

Unhindered by Corviknight's efforts to dodge, the bubbles burst against metal feathers. Corviknight stirs awake with a muffled quark, its drooping head lifting with apparent effort. With both combatants on their last legs, it occurs to Gavin that they might lose this fight.[break][break]

"Drill Peck!" he commands, sharp.[break][break]

Corviknight's movements are far from graceful as it lurches forward, beak-first.
