Gavin feigns interest in conversation with some pretty young thing, laughs at her jokes and makes the blush rise in her cheeks. He blends in seamlessly with the other patrons, just a businessman on his day off.[break][break]

Bidding farewell to the girl, he turns to leave and is flagged down by one of the dealers.[break][break]

He hesitates, mouth open on the breath of an excuse. "Oh, no, I really shouldn't—"[break][break]

He's shouted down by the jovial crowd, just as expected. He casts a longing look toward the door, worries at his lip with a sigh.[break][break]

"Oh, all right," he relents. "Just one game, then."[break][break]

He takes his place at the table and very deliberately acts as if he and Marcel hadn't set up this entire thing.

as he shuffles, he overhears one of the men boasting about his luck that night. some resentment is beginning to rise. "save that for after the game, eh?" marcel begins dealing out the cards. gavin's hand is an average one, no big wins or losses. perfect to keep him under the radar.

"so," he shifts topics before the bragging can begin again, "where's everyone heading back to after this?" a number of towns and regions are given around the table; marcel takes care to note each one of them.

The regulars are sharks with the scent of blood, circling around their prey with intent. But if they are sharks, Gavin is the orca waiting to strike.[break][break]

He flashes a quick look at his hand without reaction. He can feel their eyes on him, hungrily searching for a weakness to exploit. He gives them a taste, a subtle nervous tic that the perceptive will think they can capitalize upon. If he looks too confident, too sure of himself, they'll catch on to the ruse.[break][break]

Marcel knows where Gavin lives, but he is not Gavin tonight.[break][break]

"My last night before I'm off home to Galar."[break][break]

He'd adopted his native Galarian accent with ease. It was easier to sell shreds of truth to observant folks like these.
