The dark is kind. It shields your flaws, swathes your skin in shadow, hides your imperfections, dramatizes your more dominant features. It's safe.[break][break]

The light is blinding and warm, and yet people are obsessed with it. She used to hate it, avoid it. But now, for some reason, she sought it out. She desired what she had originally despised. She had grown a taste for things she felt she could not have.[break][break]

Emma walks barefoot in the tall grass of the outskirts, relishing in the feel of grass and dirt beneath her feet. It feels natural, and she feels some degree of relief because of it.[break][break]

Even still, though, the woman remains on her guard. There's a Lycanroc to her side, his red eyes every watchful as he surveys the surroundings.

Deep down, Maverick dreaded starting over again. Collecting all his dark type creatures and training them up once more. Yet at the same time, it excited him. After learning that some of his past beloved have some how made it here, the scarred man could not help the desire find as many as he could. He even hoped to one day find Kimba, his starter back home. [break][break]

His glassy crimson gaze flickered to his only known survival, Azula. The massive six foot houndoom was the only one he managed to bring with him here. Rough hands rose to brush the side of his canine muzzle, she simply pushed into his touch. A faint grin appeared over his expression before becoming flat once more, his attention back on the trail.[break][break]

It wasn’t long before he spotted someone else in the outskirts. A woman who dressed herself oddly. But with his mission the man focus today, his mind didn’t wonder. Not giving it another thought, Maverick approached the woman and her canine being sure they aware of his approach. “Hey,” the man called out with a swift wave, “Looking for dark types in the area. Have you seen any?”

Not far ahead of her, two young Rockruff had managed to catch a mess of black and blue feathers. Their plaything squawked and squeaked in fury as heavy paws and sharp puppy teeth pull at feathers and pinch at skin. The puppies show no sign of remorse, not even when they themselves get buffeted with WING ATTACKS from the struggling Pokemon.[break][break]

Emma hears footsteps draw behind her and she glances over her shoulder, gaze cold and indifferent as she looks over the man. He asks her a question and she blinks, gesturing to the Murkrow that her Pokemon were manhandling.[break][break]

"I've found plenty."[break][break]

Hades rumbles at her side and both human and Pokemon turn over to see a Houndour approaching. It's heavy, clumsy puppy paws give it away despite the SMOG it emits to hide its advance. The woman's Lycanroc abandons his trainers shadow in favor of dealing with the puppy, unless Maverick's Houndoom interfered.[break][break]

In the meantime, Emma's barefoot approach brings her to the tattered feathers of the exhausted Murkrow that her puppies had soon given up playing with in favor of something new. She tosses a spare Pokeball at the pathetic bird.[break][break]

Just as the scarred man spoke up to the woman about dark types, she motioned to a pair of canines harassing murkrows. “Oh…” the man replied, feeling like he just asked a dumb question. Ahhh… Murrkows. Just the sight of the black feathered birds brought back memories of Shiva, his first ever murkrow he caught back home. That bratty bird was a pain in the butt and never listened to him even when she was fully evolved and trained. The man always found it weird how much she despised other flying creatures despite being a flying type herself. Shiva really hated Raina, his vullaby. But when Maverick managed to get his hands on a honchkrow named Marrok, her opinion on him wasn’t the same as others. In fact, it seemed like she actually liked him. Mav sure hoped one day he will find all of his former team.[break][break]

It wasn’t until he heard a snarl from his beloved six foot tall houndoom when he snapped out of his daze. Warm colored orbs flickered to see Azula in defense mode. The rapidash skull wearing creature appeared to have found a puppy. The canine guarded the houndour from the advancing lycanroc, her pearly teeth bared as her motherly trait kicked in. Not wanting a fight, the trainer felt the need to step in. Getting between her lycanroc and his doom, the man tried to calm his down. “Easy Azula,” Maverick warning in a dark tone, “Take it easy. I’m sure there is no need for a fight.” The houndoom snorted angrily, though turned her attention to the puppy underneath her. It was only then did the man realized why she was acting this way.[break][break]

“Azur? Is that you?” The houndour barked, baring his teeth playfully as his stubby tail wagged. A hint of a grin spread across his once flat expression. “Hey buddy! How did you get here?” The houndour darted towards Maverick and pawed at his leg, barking excitedly. “I can’t believe I found you,” the trainer chuckled lightly as he knelt down to pat the top of his head, “I can see you been causing trouble.” Grazing a scar on the side of his face, the Azur snarled in a playful matter. “Well… I lost your pokeball but I have more. Wanna come with us?” Azur looked to Azula as she retook her position next to Maverick, the man stood up and reached into his pocket for the common two toned ball. “We would love for you to rejoin the team but of course, you don’t have too.” Offering the poke ball, the houndour seemed hesitant at first. His won red gaze shifted from Maverick to the outskirts than back to Azula. The trainer’s heart raced, though was internally joyed when the houndour nudged the ball and it sucked him in.[break][break]

Turning back to the woman, his hint of a smile fainted and he nodded to her. “I apologized for disturbing you and hoped you don’t mind that I caught this houndour here. He’s an old friend.” Crimson colored orbs flickered over her pokemon, seeing she must have a soft spot for rockruffs and lycanrocs as he does for houndours and houndooms. “The name is Maverick by the way,” the scarred man introduced himself before motioning to his houndoom who must be interesting to her with how big she was and the old skull on her head, “And his beast his Azula.” Azula, being the proud creature she was, only stood taller, arrow tipped tail twitched ever so slightly as she was being sure to how offer her greatness to the other canines. "Do you know your way around here?" There was something he kind of liked about this woman even though they only just met, he just couldn't put his finger on it.

The pair of Rockruff abandon their idle banter when Emma whistles sharply. Feathers drop from their mouths and the larger of the two retrieves the Murkrow's Pokeball. As it sniffs up to her hand, however, Emma has turned to face the man's Houndoom that had begun to bare her fangs and intervene in the confrontation between Hades and the Houndour pup. [break][break]

Of course, this immediately leads to Hades to react with aggression. His snarl is violent and full of malice. Saliva drips from his gums as he shows teeth. Lips pull back and his eyes glow with rage as the Houndoom towers over him. However, it seems the midnight-form Lycanroc is unfazed by his diminutive state. He's faced larger opponents - he'd taken down Emma's Noivern before without breaking a sweat.[break][break]

Emma's piercing stare grows increasingly tense as she shifts her attention from her Pokemon to the Houndoom's trainer. He's attempting to calm his beast and the situation de-escalates only because the puppy his Houndoom is protecting turns out to be a familiar face to the man. Hades reactionary aggression does not change, however - though his target is no longer the Houndour humiliating itself with affection for the man.[break][break]

Maverick then turns to address Emma and the woman remains as cold and rigid as she had been from the beginning. Her gaze doesn't shift to the immense Houndoom because Pokemon don't impress her. [break][break]

"It's a Pokemon," she replies, evenly, clearly implying that Pokemon aren't to be considered friends.[break][break]

The woman's Rockruff puppies have come to sit at either side of it. They're stiff and uneasy as they glance up at her. She allows a subtle movement which catches Hades' attention. The Pokemon ceases his stream of growling in order to recline, though it appears he'd like to maintain his dominance.[break][break]

"That beast isn't worth your time."[break][break]

Hades ultimately stands down to return to his trainer's side, much to the excitement of the puppies. They bounce around his feet but a sharp snarl expressing gums and teeth quickly puts them in place with a whine. [break][break]

Maverick poses her a question and Emma stares at him. Was it normal for people to openly talk to strangers? [break][break]

"... yes, of course I do."[break][break]

As Maverick plucked the two toned ball of the ground and shoved it in his pants pocket, he turned to the woman and couldn’t help but feeling like she seemed familiar. But as she stared at him and spoke, he quickly realized the reason why she seemed so familiar in a way. Behind his rather flat bored expression, Mav chuckled lightly. He remembered those day. This was when he first started his journey, several years ago. Like her, he saw pokemon as nothing more than a tool at his disposal. A creature that lived on earth and nothing more. But after everything that had happened to him, his vision of pokemon has changed. In fact, he owed his creature’s his life. It it wasn’t for Kimba and the rest of his former team, Maverick would be dead.[break][break]

Azula wasn’t even fazed by Hades display. In fact, she found it rather amusing. Clearly, she would win a fight. At least, so she thought. Seeing how easily the creature lost control of its own emotions, Azula saw no challenge and no threat in the creature. And with that, she let her guard down. Azula simply sat down regally next to her trainer, though kept an eye on the other canine just in case it tried any tricks. The hell hound wasn’t stupid.[break][break]

With a muffed chuckle and playful smirk, Maverick couldn’t help himself. “Yeah… And you’re just a human. A bag of defenseless flesh and bones that your lycanroc there can simply dig it’s razor sharp teeth into and rip out your throat, killing you within seconds. What makes you think why it hasn’t?” A sarcastic chuckle rumbled his chest. “Just because you caught it. If that pokemon wasn’t some what of a friend or ally, it can easily kill you and leave you.” His expression fell flat once more, shrugging his shoulders. Whatever her response was, Maverick really didn’t care either way. Everyone had their own opinion and their own way of doing things. “Its whatever I guess. So long as you control them, that’s all that really matters.”[break][break]

Upon introduction himself and asking his question, the burnt scarred male couldn’t shake the feeling as though she thought he was stupid. But again, he didn’t really care. If she wasn’t interested, then either was he. Maverick had a task he wanted to accomplish today. “Would you mind showing me, or at least tell me, which way I need to head if I want to find some more houndoooms? I’m looking for a lost….” Maverick was about to say friend though she probably only laugh. “Pokemon. I heard rumor’s of some being seen here. I’m also looking for other pokemon that might not seem to fit here.” Mav would have told her the story though he had a hunch she didn’t want to hear it.

Emma gives the Lycanroc no further orders, but Hades ultimately lets his lips cover his teeth as he returns to the woman's side. He had only reacted in defense of his master, given the high-and-mighty impression he had gotten from the hound. [break][break]

"Because I'm the reason it's still alive."[break][break]

Her response is flat, and her expression unreadable. She regards the man with disdain, but her outward expression bears no ill will.[break][break]

Something crashes next to her, and a Crawdaunt appears. Another Pokemon floats past not long after, and the woman gestures discreetly for Hades to take care of it. His no guard ability ensures every hit is successfully delivered, and he takes down the Weezing without taking damage due to well-timed protects.[break][break]

She throws a Pokeball to capture the poison type before deciding to give Maverick the time of day again. [break][break]

"It's why I keep it around."[break][break]

There's an ominous tone. Hades has certainly killed people for her, though she doesn't outright say it. The fact the man seems so well-versed in Pokemon behaviour is almost annoying. As if he's trying to make sense of who she is based on occasional expressions and simple conversation. He would be incredibly surprised to find just what she was capable of.[break][break]

But then Maverick asks a question, putting out the embers of whatever heated conversation they might have. It's for the best, and Emma would have killed the vibe anyway.[break][break]

"No."[break][break]

With the Weezing retrieved, Emma has no further business here, and she had no intention of hanging around listening to the man talk about his missing Pokemon. She had better things to do, people to hunt down, stuff to steal. [break][break]

The woman clicks her tongue and walks back from where she came, quite rudely leaving the poor man and his beautiful Houndoom hanging.[break][break]

Maverick let his expression fell flat with a hint of distaste, seeing as though the woman cared less of everything and anything he said to say. He admit, he liked her cold exterior though that was about it. Seeing as though she just didn’t care about anything, Maverick only gave her a stiff nod. Clearly, she was as emotionless and heartless as he once was. To be honest, he had no interest left in her which just meant she a bore. At the sight of a crawdaunt, Maverick motioned for Azula to take care of it. The massive houndoom hesitant for a moment, not wanting to leave her trainer with this odd woman and her pokemon. But when the lycanroc took off to take care of a koffing, Azula left to fetch the crawdanut.[break][break]

From the corner of his vision, he watched Azula fight the wild creature in the distance. Azula being well versed in the art of battle, taking the upper hand swiftly and rather harshly. The crawdaunt sent a stream of bubbles toward her, but Azula easily dodged the attack only to crunch down the the creatures claw. It hollered, though didn’t give up that easily. And if Maverick knew Azula that well, she doesn’t like an easy prey to take down. While the two battled it out, Maverick had his attention on the woman.[break][break]

The woman gave Mav the cold shoulder with quick short answer, the lycanroc taking care of the koffing and her catching it. He didn’t bother saying anything as she walked away, only shrugging his shoulder’s and turning to finish what he was set out to do. Catch some pokemon. Azula throw her head back in a victorious howl, her chest puffed out with pride at another successful hunt for the count. The man couldn’t help but chuckle, plucking a ball out of his pocket and tossing it at the pokemon.[break][break]

“Nicely done,” the man commented as she stood over her take down before it got sucked into the ball, “I see you didn’t kill it this time.” She barked, letting a playful growl out and snipped at her trainer. “Watch it.” Maverick laughed. While the ball did its thing, Maverick couldn’t help but secretly hope that woman finds something worth living for. He’s been down that track before and knows it will only lead to her own distraction of she doesn’t figure it out soon. At least, it wasn’t his concern. In fact, the man didn’t even know what he cared. Why should he care? It’s not like he even knows her. At the moment, a thought crossed his mind that made him roll his eyes at himself. Man… Maverick has gotten soft over years.
