Sweat beads on the woman's brow as she continues her hike. Rubber soles crunch the gravel beneath her feet as she catches her breath. The wind cools her warm skin, she's reached a height that the wind can actually reach her.[break][break]

Her thumb brushes the damp from her cheek and she glances over her shoulder at the rolling hills below her. It felt good to push herself, to climb the side of Jagged Pass. There's a satisfied grin on her face at her accomplishment, however minor it was. Her legs would almost certainly feel like jello tomorrow - but that was a good thing.[break][break]

But now the opportunity arose to train way up here and to seek out the fighting and psychic types that made their home in the pass.

Sounds of bestial grunts and battle echoed off of the rocky terrain nearby. Shadows of two large Pokemon duking it out could be seen by any curious onlooker who dared to investigate. There was a third shadow too, however. One of a long-haired girl. [break][break]

With crossed arms, Nova oversaw a spar between two of her own Pokemon. Drayco and a Samurott, one who she had decided to name 'Brook', were in the midst of a heated battle. She stood in the middle from afar, watching as the orange lizard came down at the armored seal with a Wing Attack. It was promptly countered by a Razor Shell attack, however. Both parties were sent back by the force. Steely eyes of the Dragonite and Samurott met each other. They were at a stalemate. [break][break]

"Alright, that's enough you two," Nova spoke up, intervening. Brook was the first to back down, stowing its shell-blades away into their holsters. Drayco growled at the human girl, having felt unsatisfied. It appeared as if a sort of rivalry had developed between the two Pokemon ever since Nova had caught Brook. "You can battle other wild Pokemon, Drayco. Don't get all fussy on me." She chuckled. [break][break]

Nova returned Brook into its Pokeball. Drayco walked up to Nova, following after her when she began to continue down a mountainous trail. "Come on, let's do a little bit of exploring."

Stormy overhears the battle, witnesses the impact that drives both Pokemon to either side of the platform. Grass tears up at their feet as they come to a stalemate. The woman whistles in appreciation as she approaches, offering the other woman a wave.[break][break]

"Impressive Pokemon!"[break][break]

The stranger had begun to approach her unintentionally, and she catches her brief suggestion to the Dragonite to go exploring.[break][break]

"Mind if I tag along? Adventure is better with a partner, right?"[break][break]

Her smile is bright as she glances at the girl's Dragonite again, nodding quietly in amazement. [break][break]

Unfortunately, before they got too far, it seemed that they were being descended upon by a bunch of Mankey who were clearly unhappy with their turf being used as a battle arena. One gets too close and yanks on Stormy's ponytail and she cries out in surprise, swatting the angry monkey away.[break][break]

"But first, we have company!"[break][break]

Stormy releases a Lucario, the aura Pokemon immediately putting up his dukes and intercepting the next Mankey to assault Stormy. The woman takes a step back, allowing her Pokemon more room to maneuver past her. The Lucario FEINTS before knocking the closest Mankey out cold with a CROSS-CHOP.[break][break]

Before it has a chance to recover, Stormy throws an empty pokeball at it for a quick capture.[break][break]

A lone Xatu flies overhead but offers no guidance or importance to the situation.[break][break]

"Hmm? [break][break]

The sharp sound of a whistle echoing off of the mountainous walls directed Nova to the emergence of a new figure. It was a lady with long, dark hair. She appeared friendly, complimenting the battle between her two Pokemon. The kind words quickly got to Drayco's head and so the orange lizard puffed its chest out proudly. Nova rolled her eyes. How typical. [break][break]

"We'd love a partner to tag along!" She chimed, greeting this fellow adventurer with a smile. But before Nova could ask about the other Trainer's whereabouts, a pack of primate Pokemon had surrounded the group. Leaping off from the rocky walls and sediment, they kicked up dust when they tried to attack the group. Nova clenched her teeth nervously, ducking too when one of their gripping hands attempted to swipe down at her. [break][break]

The Dragonite snarled, quick to throw a Thunder Punch at any of the agitated Pokemon that came near to its partner. One tried to overpower the dragon beast by leaping up forward to it. Drayco quickly struck it down with a powerful swipe of its wing in a Wing Attack. [break][break]

The two partner Pokemon's effort appeared successful. The attackers were quickly dealt with, and any of the remaining stragglers fled. Nova sighed out in relief. That was a little unexpected. She was a little taken aback but otherwise unharmed. [break][break]

"You alright?" Nova asked, turning to the lady to make sure that was also the case with her.

Stormy delivers a bright smile when the stranger turns at her voice, and she instinctively raises her hand a second time to reiterate her greeting had it gone unnoticed. She laughs a bit as she jogs to catch up, wiping sweat from her brow and placing her hands on her hips.[break][break]

"Great!"[break][break]

Her glee is displayed with a clap of her hands as she glances at the Dragonite who is not so subtle at puffing out his chest. She chuckles a bit at the display, more than impressed with his prowess and depth of chest.[break][break]

Of course, their conversation is put on pause as they deal with the hoard of Mankey that decided to lay siege, but they soon lay in a heap to the side. Their snores indicate they won't be waking anytime soon, and Stormy grabs hold of the girls hand to tug her along.[break][break]

"C'mon, c'mon! Before they wake up and remember what they were mad about."[break][break]

Once they're a decent distance away she releases the girl, offering her a wink. If that isn't an indication of whether she was alright or not, then what was? [break][break]

In the meantime, she wipes dirt from her cheek and hisses only a little bit at the shallow cut on her cheek - but her eyes are otherwise bright and alert and she's full of vigor. Her Lucario catches up with them not long after, his demeanor rather stoic and watchful. Stormy pays him no real mind and instead turns to the woman.[break][break]

"You're pretty tough stuff! I'm impressed!"[break][break]

She tucks the Mankey's Pokeball away and smiles again, before suddenly realising that she hadn't had a chance to introduce herself.[break][break]

"Oh! Right, right. My name's Stormy, it's a pleasure!"[break][break]

Lucario makes a complaintive noise as something adorably tiny and clingy holds on tight to his leg. Stormy glances over her shoulder, wide-eyed and curious, to see that a very young Abra had mistaken Lucario for its mother. With a gasp akin to that of someone melting from sheer adorableness, Stormy rushes to the Lucario and kneels by the child.[break][break]

"Aren't you just the sweetest? Oh, no, no, no! Shhh, I'm not that scary I'm so sorry."[break][break]

She babbles as she reaches out to coax the Abra, but it seems that Lucario's sense of self-preservation or 'motherly' instincts kick in, and she whisks the Abra away, coddling it in her arms. Stormy raises an eyebrow at this sudden change of attitude but shrugs and spins on her heel to return to Nova.[break][break]

"Sorry about that! We're just out for a nice hike - getting our exercise in and stuff. The fresh air does wonders for the mind, y'know!"[break][break]

"A-Ah, yeah! Let's get going," [break][break]

Nova blinked in surprise as she soon felt her arm being pulled forward by the dark-haired woman. There was a jubilant aura to her that took the Rocket grunt aback-- But it wasn't necessarily unwelcomed. It was nice seeing such an excited face, especially in and odd area like this. It made the teenager crack a shy smile as her legs hastened their pace to keep up with her. Nova's gaze softened when she noticed the cut on the lady's face. But with that happy-go-lucky look on her face, it didn't seem as if she was bothered in the slightest bit. [break][break]

Drayco took to the sky, flying lowly overhead the group. Maybe it was a good thing as he wouldn't e able to hear the lady's compliment. Nova laughed, using her free arm to place her fingers behind her neck, rubbing the skin abashedly. "You think so? To me, sometimes it just feels like luck is on our side," Nova chuckled. She hardly thought of herself as a Trainer. She'd only learned to engage in battle with her Pokemon friends because it had become a necessity for traveling. Nova would have never thought that the pursuit of growing stronger would ever be apart of an agenda of hers. "I'm mostly new to this kind of thing, honestly." [break][break]

"It's nice to meet you!" The younger girl replied, "I'm Nova." [break][break]

She watched the interaction between Abra and Stormy's Lucario with a laugh, putting a hand over her mouth in an attempt to stifle her giggles. But before long, Nova was distracted when a Slowpoke came along the rocky path. It appeared docile and quite friendly-- likely because of its sluggish nature. She moved to crouch down to the pink monster's level, petting its head. "Man, it's crazy how Pokemon like you manage to survive out here. You'd probably like a place that has a little more water!" [break][break]

Whether or not it truly understood Nova, it appeared happy regardless. It allowed the girl to gently tap a Pokeball onto its head, sucking the Slowpoke into the ball's confines. [break][break]

Nova smiled having turned back up to Stormy. "A good hike is always good for you. My partners always become fussy if we don't venture out," She joked, eyeing the Dragonite flying above her. "Drayco over there was my first ever Pokemon friend. As soon as he could fly, we were off everywhere!" [break][break]

She dusted off the arid dirt that clung onto her skirt and began walking again. [break][break]

"I guess I've gotta thank him for bugging me all the time. I come from Verdanturf and up until recently, I really haven't been around Hoenn. I'd love to visit another region one day!" Nova exclaimed, smiling wishfully.

"Eh, luck, skill. What's the difference really, if you know how to take advantage of it?"[break][break]

The woman tosses another wink as she laughs, dipping her head and side-stepping. The situation had been handled quite well, it seemed, and Lucario continues to baby and fawn over the little Pokemon in her arms. [break][break]

Nova introduces herself and she grins because it's a unique and beautiful name and she's genuinely happy to have met her. She was happy in general to meet any new trainers or people capable of handling themselves in the wild. [break][break]

"Slowpoke have always been a bit dopey, he probably just kept walking in a straight line and happened to not bump into anything."[break][break]

It sounds like a put-down but Stormy giggles as she watches the woman capture the wandering Slowpoke and turn back to her. She takes a deep breath and puts her hands on her hips and exhales, nodding her head thoughtfully.[break][break]

"Sometimes a hike is just the best damn thing in the world. Really helps you clear some headspace."[break][break]

Her attention follows Nova's as she mentions the Dragonite and she purses her lips and it quickly turns into a smile. [break][break]

"My first Pokemon was a Rapidash. Sometimes I swear we run so fast it feels like we're flying."[break][break]

Nova mentions that she's from Verdanturf and she muses about it for a moment. It seems that in the meantime, however, Lucario has made short work of a grouchy Grumpig that got too close to her new baby. The Abra hangs off of her arm like an opossum, allowing the dual-type to defeat the Grumpig without much worry of jostling the Abra. [break][break]

That, and every time the wild Pokemon attempts to lay a hand on the Abra, the tiny psychic type manages to TELEPORT out of harms way. At some point, in fact, the baby Pokemon appears in Stormy's arms, causing the woman to gasp in surprise. The weight only lasts a moment as the Abra goes back to Lucario.[break][break]

"Hoenn is honestly.. a lot bigger and more amazing than I expected. I'm not big on change but this region has really shown me how important it is to keep an open mind."[break][break]

The two of them pass by the unconscious Grumpig and she makes an effort to capture it along the way.[break][break]

Nova laughed, complimenting Stormy's confident stride. The redhead had lived in Hoenn all her life and she still, from time to time, felt nervous treading an unfamiliar route. She picked up the Pokeball of her rightful capture. Slowpoke didn't seem like the battling type... But she was sure that her younger brother would love its lazy company. [break][break]

Nova blinks in surprise too at the Abra's sudden teleportation. "He's a quick one!" She laughed. [break][break]

Drayco, in the meantime, was occupied with an enemy of his own. A Mienshao situated at an end of a rocky ledge had begun bothering the dragon. He retaliated with a Wing Attack, causing the mon to lose its footing. Thankfully, the fighting-type wasn't too high up and its fall only made it a little dizzy. Nova jumped a little, moving back as she saw the falling figure. [break][break]

"Don't so be so mean, Drayco!" She shouted up at her partner. He simply huffed, arms crossed in an uptight manner. [break][break]

Nova could only sigh and shake her head in response, deciding that it was worth capturing the creature. She threw a Pokeball at the Mienshao. [break][break]

"There are some really amazing people here I've met," Nova replied, but her tone sounded a little grim. Her uplifted expression had changed to one of uncertainty. She thought about all her ties to Rocket now. It had all been done out of necessity, but Nova knew she wasn't like the scum that hung around that organization. Would she ever be able to live a normal life after this all? Could her slate ever be cleansed of her misdeeds? The girl's walking slowed. [break][break]

"But I doubt I'll even have the opportunity to meet them all..."

Stormy chuckles, shaking her head at Nova's inquiry. [break][break]

"No, no! I'm from Kanto. My family was just very, very close with the Devon Co.'s family, the Stone's. So I've visited quite frequently over the years, and just recently settled in the area a year or so ago!"[break][break]

She muses for a moment, tapping her chin thoughtfully before breaking out into a grin.[break][break]

"But I honestly have fallen in love with the region, so I spend a lot of my free time exploring and enjoying the beautiful weather. There are some really great areas to sightsee here! I mean.. being a ranger helps too, I suppose. You get to navigate the region just by being on the job."[break][break]

With a tilt of her head, the woman smiles with closed eyes. [break][break]

She watches for a moment at the interaction between the girls Dragonite and the Mienshao, mildly amused by the girl's chastising. However, she quickly captures the change in expression on Nova's face and her own head ducks as it to catch her smile before it might fall to the ground. Stormy frowns curiously, eyebrows drawing together in concern.[break][break]

"Normally people smile when they say they've met great people. What's got you so glum? Was it a boy? Did you meet a boy who won't give you the time of day?"[break][break]

Her voice and the lilt in her tone suggests she's teasing, trying to lighten the mood. [break][break]

"Meet all of who?"[break][break]

In the background of their conversation, Lucario is busy tackling and tearing down Hakamo-o who's gotten a little aggressive. Paired with the Abra, the two act like a dynamic duo. Abra's psychic abilities are confusing enough to disorient the wild Pokemon as it continues to TELEPORT back and forth. Lucario finishes the dragon with a well-practiced AURA SPHERE, sending the Hakamo-o into the dirt. Stormy pauses from her conversation for only a moment to capture the beast.[break][break]

"Oh... N-No, don't worry," Nova said, shaking her head softly before turning up to gaze back into the comforting eyes of Stormy. "I just overthink sometimes, I guess. I worry that I might be living life to the fullest." [break][break]

It was less of a worry and more of a fact, though, to the redhead. She didn't want to dwell much longer on it though and decided to continue forward. "Don't worry, I'm fine. I've just had to made a lot of adjustments to life as of late. It's got me thinking a lot."
