night slash finally brought decidueye down, but the grass-type avian didn't part without giving a farewell gift. the chains that bound skuntank into the ground was connected to another spirit shackle that the bird brought out from her plumage. it shot out from macua and honed into lycanroc's direction.[break][break]

“it's alright now, boy. let venus take care of the rest!”[break][break]

while red light engulfed him, venus prepared to retaliate. it bolted out to roost a battle cry before she glimmered in familiar glow, sending tremors of earthquake into both of their direction.[break][break]

The spirit shackle fastens to Hades' arms before he has a chance to react. It pins him to the ground, worse than what it had done to Skuntank at the time. Perhaps it was due to the beast being on all fours rather than bipedal. Regardless, Hades growl of rage and distress is indicative of his predicament. Fortunately, although not soon enough, the shift in the shackle releases the poison-type Pokemon. [break][break]

When the Decidueye falls, Skuntank is free to sucker punch and launch itself up at the Altaria, a shadowy, dark-manifested fist reaching out to sock the Altaria in the face just as it makes its move to earthquake. When Skuntank lands, it tucks and rolls to use its thick fur as insulator, though the rolling earth is still painful, bruising and weakening.[break][break]
Hades is unable to defend himself from the attacks, slumping and trembling as he succumbs to his fate. The fire in his eyes dims, and he pants heavily. He is down, but not out - however he does not react. [break][break]

It is Skuntank who is left to make the final stand, and she coats herself in a thick layer of toxic pre-emptively. It coagulates and thickens, acting as armor that would be deadly on contact. [break][break]

the lycanroc was finally down but she thought it hadn't yet given up its fight. at least there was a chance to overturn the situation, even with the slimmest one.[break][break]

“venus! endure and get back up immediately!”[break][break]

as the skuntank was fast approaching with a sucker punch, altaria managed to cast a barrier of mirror move, ultimately countering the creature's attack while being able to revert it to the skunk. however, the avian dragon did not endure through the poison that became its second layer of defense. toxic soiled the avian dragon's plumage, putting in in extreme danger.[break][break]

“slash through the lycanroc once more!”[break][break]

after which, altaria darted into the hound and cut through with its steel wing.[break][break]

ALTARIA uses MIRROR MOVE (countering skuntank's SUCKER PUNCH).[break]

Hades is breathing heavily, drawing in painful, labored breaths. He seems to be trembling, every muscle in his body aching and screaming for him to stop. But he can't, because Emma hasn't called him off. He cannot relent until she gives him the signal.[break][break]

And Emma is focused, driven to success, and the end is in sight.[break][break]

"Hold."[break][break]

The reflected sucker punch crashes to the ground right beside the Skuntank, narrowly missing the Pokemon. It ruffles her fur and throws her off balance briefly, the recoil from her attack unexpected. But Emma's confidence in her is unwavering, and the Skuntank thrives off of it, pushes past her own uncertainty.[break][break]

When the dust settles and Skuntank shakes off the mirror moved sucker punch, the Altaria is poisoned and headed for the Lycanroc. And the Lycanroc's last-ditch effort is to taunt, to keep the Altaria focused on him. He stands, bold, defiant, shaky on his feet, to take the steel wing without fear.[break][break]

It proves to be his demise, in the end, but he snarls, eyes locked on the golden bird as steel wings slam him over, and over, and over again.[break][break]

Emma lifts her chin, and Skuntank jumps forward, rushing to take down both Altaria and her companion. The area is covered in a poisonous gas that masks her movements, clouding judgement and purpose. Purple and white blend into a blur in the haze, and she lashes out with a night slash.[break][break]

Lycanroc has fainted.[break][break]

notes: lycanroc is hit and trapped by spirit shackle, and hit by earthquake. skuntank is hurt by earthquake, but uses sucker punch + toxic on altaria.

Selena watches as the end of the match unfolds and notes the style of fighting the gym challenger displays as she pushes her lycanroc to its last breath. She has witnessed hundreds of trainers and their thousands of battle style, but there are only a few of those she sees that puts immense amount of pressure into their pokemons just to win the match.

Anna Grey is a person of interest in Selena's list.

“Put the skuntank out of balance!”

With her words, it is obvious what the altaria will do next as it has done it before. The ground begins to show signs of EARTHQUAKE, the avian dragon also pushing its last efforts to endure the ordeal. The pang of poison continues to seep in the process and the toxic that blinds her makes it hard to survive for much longer.

In the next few seconds, altaria will be falling. But she will wait until she sees who's the last mon standing.

Hades crumbles, and Emma returns the beast to its pokeball, effectively taking him out of the equation the moment the earthquake trembles. [break][break]

By the time Skuntank hits the ground again, all four paws digging sharpened claws into the earth, she can feel it begin to rumble. The threat of doom is great, but her perseverance is greater. Instead of hunkering down and displaying weakness, she manifests another, weaker substitute to curl up on top of. The earthquake harms the copy of herself, rather than hurting her directly.[break][break]

It gives her a chance to breathe, and to watch the Altaria fall, succumbing to its own wounds and the toxic ooze that buries itself even deeper. When the dust settles, Skuntank would slowly hop off the substitute and wait for confirmation of victory, before leisurely meandering back to meet Emma and receive a few simple pats.[break][break]

It is sneaky, but very intuitive of Anna to put out a substitute to get through the earthquake and not the skuntank. With loud panting and heavy breathing, Selena reaches for Venus's capsule and call it quits.

“That's enough.”

She walks down the arena as her hands fiddle with her pocket, reaching for a token that symbolizes their triumphant conquest of her gym challenge.

“You're a very dedicated trainer and I think that's just half the reason why you win.” She offers her hand again, a gesture that ends all adversities with the end of their battle. Should Emma accept, she will realize the badge is inside Selena's palm. “You know your pokemons' capabilities and you know how to push them to achieve your goals.”

She steps back, her arms crossing as she puts on a smile. “Just be careful when pushing them that hard. I want another opportunity at battling them when you come to conquer the Pokemon League challenge.”

SELENA retrieves ALTARIA.
