Samuel almost sympathized with this karp thief as he stood at the pond’s edge and stared down at the fish swimming about. They looked so dimwitted and weak that he could simple pick one out of the water right now and it wouldn’t put up much of a fight.

So who was he to judge a predator looking for an easy meal?

And apparently it was cunning enough to get away with it. But alas it was their job to capture the Pokémon and their lure was set and the coming time was soon.

”You ready?” He’d ask his coworker for this job.

Remiel nonchalantly looked down at the Magikarp swimming below the pond's surface. There was no guarantee the attempts would stop, even if they rid Petalburg of the offender permanently. The entire affair seemed foolish and a waste of time. The fish were better off moved to a safer location, or allowed to fight for or forfeit their lives.

Regardless, the admin sighed and reached for one of the luxury balls clipped to his belt. "All we can do now is wait. I'll have Elwynn standing guard." He added, summoning a little Floette carrying a blue flower. "Disguise yourself with the rest of them," The black-haired royal orders, gesturing towards a small flower bed by the pond. "Our job is to protect the fish."

The wee fairy responds with a diligent nod, floating down towards the flower bed gestured to previously and disguising herself rather impeccably. Remiel, in the meantime, gestures for the other man to go and hide while he does the same. It wouldn't be too long until the predator showed itself.

As Remiel prepared his own Pokémon for their part of this job Samuel did the same, releasing his Dusclops from its capsule. ”Hide within the shadows there.” Samuel ordered, point towards the shadow being cast by a tree close to the pond.

It was now the trainer’s turn to go hide and with a nod to Remiel, Samuel went to go find cover behind his own tree and watch carefully at the arrival of whatever it was that they were trying to capture.

And after waiting a bit their thief would show up but it was not just one thief it was thieves. A gang of what appeared to be Sneasel made their way to the pond, looking hungry for a meal.

Samuel was surprised to see the Pokémon here and even more so to see it working in a team but that would explain why it was hard to capture them. One alone was shift but a whole group of them would make it even harder. But Samuel remained in his place, they just had to get a bit closer before they could attack them.

From his vantage point, Remiel could see his partner peeking out from the shadows at the gang of Sneasel approaching the pond. He nodded when they made brief eye contact, both acknowledging that they would wait a little longer until their targets stood in just the right spot. Attacking them now gave a few the opportunity for an easy escape, after all. They needed to take them all down in one fell swoop. And that meant-

Splash!

One of the Magikarp leaped out of the water when it noticed the foremost Sneasel at the edge of the pond, prompting said predator to procure a few Ice Shards between its claws. It planned to pierce the Magikarp while it remained defenseless in mid-air. Deciding this was enough to prompt them to act, Remiel stepeed out of his cover and commanded Elwynn to act. "Lucky Chant!"

And the flower did so, spinning out from the flower bed (much to the Sneasel's surprise) and unleashing a glittering golden aura that seemed to seep into all the Magikarp, the Floette itself, and Samuel's Dusclops, too. When the Ice Shards were fired, it was through seemingly sheer luck that they only managed to clip the Magikarp on its top fin. It was a non-fatal blow that sent it spinning towards the other side of the pond, out of harm's way.

And with Remiel’s Pokémon making its move so does Samuel’s Dusclops. Popping out of the shadows the Ghost used Mean Look to prevent any of the Sneasel from panicking and attempt to make an escape. Samuel himself then moved from his hiding spot to release another Pokémon, his Ivysaur.

”Use Sleep Powder on the Sneasel.” He’d order. The Ivysaur released spores from the bulb on its back towards the Sneasel in an attempt to put them to sleep and make this job pretty much solved and done.

This was easy but a bit too easy, a group like this normally had a ring leader and none of them seemed like the type.

Unbeknownst to Samuel, there was a Weavile that had been waiting and watching the events transpire, and it was now about to pounce to spring its goons out of trouble.

Their assignment appeared completed now that the Sneasel had succumbed to the Ivysaur's Sleep Powder. The night appeared won. When an Icy Wind suddenly entered the area, however, creating fog-like conditions, Remiel was sure to keep his guard up. By the time he saw the Weavile leaping out from a nearby pine tree for his Floette, one of its claws seething with dark energy, it was too late.

"Nyaaaah!"

It struck the unprepared fairy with a Night Slash, sending it twirling backwards into the air. But, with its natural type resistance and immunity to critical hits at the moment, Elwynn was quick to recover. Shocked and confused, the female Weavile growled and fixed her eyes onto the vague shape of the Dusclops nearby. This was her next target, and she ran for it with unbelievable speed as another Night Slash was prepared in its claw. But Remiel simply wouldn't stand to see it transpire before them.

"Moonblast."

And Elwynn giggled as she prepared her most powerful attack.

Their mission was done and it was done rather quickly which was good for Samuel. At least that’s what he thought until the sudden appearance of a Weavile.

The man quickly returned his Ivysaur that was finished releasing its powder, knowing that the Pokémon wouldn’t fare well in these conditions.

The Weavile had attacked Remiel’s Pokémon and was going to make Sam’s Dusclops next.

"Defend yourself! Use Thunder Punch!” Samuel ordered.

The Ghost Pokémon readied its attack but stopped when it noticed energy coming from the Floette and instead fled into the shadows, and when Samuel noticed what was going on he too moved, as to avoid being caught as well.

The Weavile sunk even deeper into its confusion when, suddenly, the Dusclops disappeared. Had it been a mirage this whole time? Or was it simply too quick? When it failed to realize that the Ghost-type was hiding in plain sight, the gang boss turned around... only to come face-to-face with a blast of pink that sent it flipping backwards into the air.

The Moonblast had been delivered without a hitch, and its super-effective typing against the Weavile rendered it unconscious in an instant. Its limp body entered the thick interior of a pine tree before crashing down against its branches. It finally hit the ground below with a dull thud. And now, truly, their assignment had come to an end.

Remiel sighed and sauntered over to place himself in the middle of all the snoring Sneasel.

"If you grab the boss, I'll grab these." He said to his partner, reaching towards his belt for a pokémon that could help him carry them all.

Samuel let out a relieved sigh once the Weavile was down; the job truly was done now. All they had to do was group up these little thieves and deliver them where they needed to be.

The local shelter would be more than happy to take these Pokémon in and either find them new homes with trainers or send them back to the wild where they belong.

”Alright that sounds easy enough.” Samuel replied, snapping his fingers to summon the Dusclops from the shadows so it can carry the Weavile.

”Now let’s get our pay.”
