It has been a while since Razz went out in public without his headband, honestly in the hot summer sun he was under it was a blessing to have it off. However knowing that he was going to be teaming up with someone and having his scar face mostly exposed he wasn't happy about it. Though for now his old orange goggles were needed to protect his eye from the sand that was blowing. From what he's been told the winds weren't as bad as they usually were but his sight was impaired enough as it was he didn't need more. He was up on the rocky cliffs of the dessert as per instructed in the text of who the rangers partnered him up with. Which was another reason to be nervous about as even he recognized the name, and he was a hermit! [break][break]

But with a deep breath the young man just tried to ignore the idea of having a partner on this mission, as he used his monocular to try and check for activity in the desert. From afar he saw a couple of trainers battling like trainers do as well as some Cacnea nearby. Once the snake(s) were dealt with Razz would make a mental note to check up on that again. Razz also made sure to mark a couple of possible caves the snakes they were looking for could be hiding in. The newbie ranger doing his best not to royally fuck this up as he was going to be working with a higher up. [break][break]

Feeling some poking at his leg Razz looked down to Cobalt who he kept beside him to be an extra set of eyes. Already they were being useful as they gestured to the man walking up behind them making the Ranger tense up. He could do this! "Ummm....." and he was silent clearly unsure how to even start... Again Cobalt nudged him to try and get him to try again. "Uhh sorry ummm," he took a deep breath once more before handing the other his monocular, "No sign of the target yet but," he began kicking himself mentally for not attempting an introduction but focusing on the mission helped some, "After scanning the area I made note of 3 different locations: there, there and there," with each there he pointed to a different dune that either had a cave, or some rock formations that could be used for easy hiding, "Each would be likely hiding spot for our target sir." [break][break]

There he did it... who needed names when you could just get to the point.... People with social skills maybe but he had none of those.

Orion's Flygon is no doubt what catches the attention of Cobalt. Sand stirs up in the wind from her wings as the bug-eyed dragon makes her landing, and Orion slides from her back.[break][break]

He'd have introduced himself if not for the cloud of dust that threatens to choke him; he's waiting for it to die down when his ranging partner gets straight to the point. The guy's a rookie, someone Orion's not heard of before getting the mission debriefing, but he makes a good — if flustered — first impression with his competence.[break][break]

A monocular is handed to him. He's got binoculars around his neck, part of his Ranger get-up, but he doesn't comment. Instead, he politely uses it to zoom in on the indicated locations before nodding and handing it back.[break][break]

"Nice work."[break][break]

As if the desert's not hot and miserable enough already, the damned heat wave makes it almost unbearable. Orion pushes damp hair back from his forehead and secures his goggles.[break][break]

"We'll start with the closest and work our way out, then." He starts walking, sensing this guy appreciates action rather than conversation. Flygon alights and follows from the air. "You're Razz Kingsman, right? That's what the file said, anyway, but they've gotten it mixed up before. All depends who's on paperwork duty, heh. Name's Orion."

Razz nods at the compliment honestly not thinking much of it as it was simple scouting work. It was the least he could do in his mind as sadly the report only gave him vague information. He just nodded again for now and followed along, part of him wondered about why walk when they could use their pokemon though he suppose since Metang mostly floated rather than flew could be a possible reason. Either way he wasn't going to question he decision of the more experienced ranger. Well he was taught to never question higher ups in the first place and that habit probably wasn't going to break anytime soon. [break][break]

At his name he perked up and felt sadly this wasn't going to be an answer he could just give a nod too, at least it was simple, "Yes sir," a small pause as he considered something, "Do you prefer to be address as Orion or Lykos?" he question as for most missions he used to be part of it was often codenames or surnames. As the first location was comming close Razz went for his bag, "When I was given the report there was no information about which snake pokemon we were looking, I'm not sure if you've been given updated information but I made sure to came with this just in case," from his bag he pulled out an antidote as more often then not snake pokemon were poison-type. And Razz dealt with enough poison pokmon in his life to know better than to hunt one without it. [break][break]

It wasn't long after when the finally arrived at the first location with a cave that could barely be called one as up close it looked more like some pokemon have just been digging into the rocks. Razz scanned to see if any snake pokemon could be seen.

Razz knew who he was, then. An occurrence that had become more and more common of late, but not one that Orion had grown accustomed to.[break][break]

"Orion's fine," he insists. "Not gonna bite you if you accidentally call me Lykos, though, don't worry."[break][break]

He laughs, and then his ears burn as he wonders if that was a silly thing to say. This guy didn't seem like the sociable type — which Orion didn't mind in the least, preferred even — and he was probably judging him, now.[break][break]

He fixates on the antidote, anything to take his mind off his embarrassment.[break][break]

"That's great thinking, plenty of shit that can poison you even if it's not a snake."[break][break]

Case in point: Orion's Nidoking, who's released onto the scene as a precautionary measure when they draw close.[break][break]

Orion was, to put it kindly, over cautious. He carried cures for just about everything when he went out on ranging jobs, just in case. You never knew what you might need, even if it meant lugging around a heavy, too-full backpack in the blazing desert heat.[break][break]

"Nothing yet, Basil, just keep the sand off us."[break][break]

Nidoking grunts, wresting control over the mild SANDSTORM and offering a circle of solace like the eye of a storm.[break][break]

"I don't see anything..."

Razz just tilted his head to the side not entirely understanding why the other was laughing, did he miss a joke some where in what he said? Did he find something he said funny? He just pushed it off though as he put away the antidote in case they would need it. Watching as the other put his Nidoking to work, cursing himself as it reminded him of his brother's and damn did he miss him and his old Nidoqueen. With a shake of his head he tried to put those thoughts behind him as now that the Sandstorm was no longer an issue. [break][break]

Razz headed toward the cave for his search when something caught his eye, kneeling down to get a better look he noticed a small cluster of eggs, hatched eggs. Due to his blind side a small rattle was his only clue of bad news as an Ekans struck, he was lucky enough to put his arm up to get bitten instead making him grunt in pain. Razz quickly slammed his arm into the rock wall to make it let go. Noting their trainer in trouble Cobalt used PSYCHIC to grab it's trainer and pull him back. "Sir!" he called out to him possibly finding their snake problem as about half a dozen mini-Ekans were crawling out of the cave. [break][break]

Though if it weren't them it could possibly be the parents.

Silence settles between them. To Orion, it feels awkward: it had been because of what he said, hadn't it? Such anxieties keep him from breaking the spell of quiet between them, and he trudges through the desert sands toward their goal with a squirm in his gut.[break][break]

His concerns translate to nervous energy at the other Ranger's shout.[break][break]

Damn it, should have brought someone with Misty Terrain...[break][break]

Hindsight was 20/20, and Orion didn't have time to stare into the rear-view. He whistles for his Flygon and clamps his hands over his ears.

"Cover your ears, this is going to be loud!"[break][break]

Tiamat levels out in the air and begins to rapidly vibrate her wings. BOOMBURST grows to a deafening pitch, distracting the group of snakes to grant Razz enough time to back off without further harm.

At the warning Razz made sure to do just that, well the best he could as his arm was aching from being bit. "Cobalt," he called doing a quick motion as once more he used PSYCHIC to pick up his trainer and move them back as the Boomburst was launched as the small group of snakes. Cobalt brought Razz back to where the senior Ranger was as the younger man just kept a hand on his arm where he was bit. Having been poisoned before he was able to tell the feeling, so thankfully this wasn't the same. Still hurt but nothing he couldn't deal with. [break][break]

"Thanks for that, though I highly doubt a couple of new hatched Ekans are our problem snakes," he grumbled looking toward the cave as the babies still seemed to be quite upset at their presence which was fair. A grunt from his partner caught his attention as behind them were two large Arbok, Cobalt was quick to put himself between the two trainers and the larges snakes. "Do you know if these are them?" Razz asked very much hating how bad things were looking with them in front of the save their children were in, and to add insult to injury the Flygon had attacked them. Truly best mission right now.

Orion shakes his head, silently agreeing with the sentiment. The hatchlings wouldn't have ventured from the safety of their caves.[break][break]

But where there were hatchlings, there were...[break][break]

"Ah, shit. That'll be the parents..."[break][break]

One seems larger than her mate, slithering forward and leaving a deep track through the sand. Its paralyzing glare lands upon Tiamat, who'd attacked its young, but the ground-type is unaffected. Orion has just enough time to send out his Aegislash and lift the shield defensively as the Arbok spits acid toward them.[break][break]

He's a ranger. He doesn't want to hurt these wild Pokemon, especially not when they were trying to protect their family.

"Are you able to put them to sleep?"[break][break]

His tone is sharp with panic, edged with hope. None of the Pokemon he'd brought with him are able to neutralize this threat beyond providing protection from the poison.

Lovely they were surrounded, with the newly hatched Ekans on one side, and their very angry parents on the other. The rock formation around them caging them in nice and tightly, this was very bad and to top it off one of them seemed quite a bit larger than the other. What were they eating? At the question he nodded, "Yes sir, but just so you know she really isn't that great in these situations, so keep up the defense," he replied as he grabbed a pokeball from his belt sending out Nylon. Razz only brought her as a just in case however despite having evolved she was still a bit of a coward when it came to battling. Which to him was fine he didn't need her for battle but he was trying to introduce her into these situations slowly. This almost felt like he was throwing a child into a river to learn to swim but at the moment he didn't feel much choice was had. [break][break]

Once the Whimsicott she didn't need long to take in the surrounding and start to panic, Razz quick to grab hold of her and keep her close, "Hey now it's okay," he tried to sooth despite everything around them very much not being okay. "I know you don't like battling but we could really use your help right now," he was interrupted slightly as he could hear hissing behind him and the Ranger motioned for Metang to cover the rear from the few ekans that survived the boom burst from before. Nylong looked up at him still clearly scare but he made sure to keep on his smile, "Don't worry I know you can do it, we're just going to need you to use Grass Whistle and put them to sleep, everyone else has your back," he reassured the best he could stepping back at the Acid attack that thankfully the sword pokemon blocked.[break][break]

Still scared but now slightly determined Nylon grabbed a blade of grass from her cotton as he put it to her face. The grass in her hand glowing green as she player her music while in her trainer's arms Razz noticing at least one of the Arbok drifting side to side getting sleepy before it seemed to topple over asleep, "keep going," he encouraged hoping to put asleep the larger one.

"Can do," Orion affirms.[break][break]

It's daunting to place himself between his team and the hissing, spitting threat, but Orion does so without complaint. His Aegislash remains indifferent to the poison that continues to splash against its steel.[break][break]

The whistling music of the Whimsicott is enough to make even Orion feel drowsy, though he's lucky in that it's not meant for him. He holds his position as the Arbok fall — first the smaller one, and then the largest threat. A sigh of relief escapes him as he lowers the heavy shield and offers silent thanks to his Pokemon before returning it to its capsule.[break][break]

"Get the little ones, too," he orders, and then softens as he recalls the timid nature of the Whimsicott. "Please."[break][break]

Razz easily felt himself getting tired, while the music wasn't aimed at him, he was still holding her and so was very close. For the moment he just focused on the pain of his arm to keep him awake as he watched the parents tip to the ground finally asleep. Nylon looked up at him with a happy 'I did it face' to which he couldn't help but respond with a yawn, but also a smile. Part of him inwardly groaned when Orion asked for it again as he was sure he would fall asleep but he knew they would be a problem too. Nylon looked up to him to make sure it was okay and he was still giving her a comforting smile as he turned to face the baby snakes, "Go head."[break][break]

Nylon did as told and used GRASS WHISTLE once more at the smaller Ekans his Metang was holding back, the grass glowing green and Razz was sure he was seeing actual musical notes appear. Unlike the parents the babies had little to no resistance against the sleeping attack. Once they finally fell asleep the young ranger fell right on his ass in the sand now half asleep. Razz petting Nylon as his silent way to tell her she did a good job. [break][break]

As he heard his superior he returned Nylon to her pokeball before nursing his arm. Damn snake, though he couldn't really blame it he stepped in on their home. "Thanks, Nylon deserves all the credit though," he chuckles lightly squeezing his arm to create a sharp pain to help wake him up. "Thanks for keeping up the defense, I've been poisoned before not a pleasant experience," he gives an awkward laugh. [break][break]

"Yeah thankfully, though I feel like I caused more of a problem than this whole mission could've been if I just could've seen it coming," the young man grumbles wanting to cover up his blind side again but unable since his goggles needed to keep in place. Seemed like even with the rangers he couldn't stop messing up. Razz took the offered hand in order to help himself up yawning a little once he was back on both feet before he nursed his arm again. "It's fine sir, the injury isn't anything I can't handle," Razz is quick to decline, "Besides I wouldn't want them waking up again as we wait so I'll stay with and call on Nylon again just in case," he insisted wanting to leave a good impression on the senior ranger. The last thing he wanted was to be seen as the idiot rookie who couldn't handle a little pain. Besides he figured it would be good to see things through as most things hes done have been small and not really required back up before so this would be a good learning experience on different procedures on things. Hopefully they wouldn't take too long.
