Just when he thought he could have a stable job again—well, there wasn’t any.

Why the hell did he suck when it came to looking for jobs that he could devote his time to? What was up with—he knew he already changed the ‘mercenary’ to ‘bodyguard for hire’ however, well, it seemed that nobody needed those kinds of things?

Honestly.

Adam had been living out of Pokémon Centers lately and quick part-time jobs; however those part-time jobs were only enough to get him food for several days before running out again.

He wondered where that annoying pie face was now.

Either way…

He was trying to grasp at this last straw he’d found—a listing for someone who hopefully wasn’t just going to need guarding for a one-time thing, but something more stable.

Even he was getting sick of boarding out of the back rooms of Pokémon Centers, after all.

“Bloody hell, this man’s loaded,” he remarked as he arrived at the address, dragging his travelling suitcase with him. Daresay if he left this behind, then he wouldn’t have any clothes left, either.

But of course—there was also a certain wrapped package that came along with his things; one he would never sell off for anything else in the world. His pride, his bloody joy—his halberd.

“Well, right now I can definitely tell you that there’s a tight race between certain people who want to maintain the top-ranked position,” he remarked as he pointed at one of the screens that had just momentarily flashed to update the overall rankings.

“See? A few hours ago MATIAS SILPH was in the lead, however now Melody Miro took the lead. However, John Sullivan isn’t too far behind,” he pointed out.

“I want to know what the top prize is, since it wasn’t explicitly announced when the tourney started. Who knows what they’re going to win after the final rankings are updated?” he added with a bit of a chuckle.

At the mention of drinks, he gave another chuckle.

“Some people are partial to one thing; while others are partial to something else. In the end though, there will always be preferences when it comes to drinks,” he nodded.

Oh, he definitely was here for the Tournament.

Not to compete, though.

“I’m here to cover the event as a whole, actually,” he remarked. “It’s just that I’m looking for several more suitable angles before I settle down and start writing what half-drafts I already have in my head,” he explained.

So yes, he was here for work too.

“Any money earned is honest money. Specially now when there’s so much bloody shit to spend money on and little of it to go around,” he added with a bit of a chuckle.

“Also, it’s nice to meet you, Alice.”

“Oh, it’s no matter at all,” he said, shrugging as he scratched the back of his head with his other hand.

“No harm, no foul done, right?” he continued as he dropped the sand-rolled ice cream ball into the container and scraped his hand on it to get off whatever else had gotten stuck to it.

Despite all that, he followed her to where he could rinse down—well, probably rinse down more than just his hands at this point. Holy crap, why was it so unnaturally hot out here? What was wrong with the temperature out, anyway?

“Oh—speaking of which, I—I didn’t catch your name. I’m Adam,” he introduced himself.

Thread Summary: Adam helps out Eliora, a lady in distress, to recover her stolen bag from a Furret who wanted it because of the berries it contained.

He had gotten so fed up with looking through the contents of the bag the next words flew over his head completely. Not until he’d managed to extract a… bun that was absolutely crammed with beef did he realize that the other was still talking to him.

“Say what?” was all he remarked, holding a bun—which he then took an incredibly big bite out of. Geez, what a chatty case he had with him.

Either way—now that the other had quieted down, he could enjoy this bun in peace. It was… quite good, apparently. He then took another big bite before finding his voice again after a while.

“Did you say something? Missed what you said last.”

“It’s no matter,” he said with a shrug. “Might as well keep foot traffic away from here—”

Once the blue-haired lady was out of sight, he decided to do one better.

Crouching down so he could quickly scoop it up, he then proceeded to roll some sand over it just in case it started to melt while he was waiting for her to return. There were a few people who had gotten in the way and were trying to shove past him, however the scowl on his face deterred most of them from doing so.

Once he was done scooping up the fallen ice cream, he then stood up, holding a half-covered ball of ice cream that had sand on it.

Okay, he must’ve looked more than a little strange, but at least he was able to keep the spread of the melting ice cream to a minimum at least?

“What do you mean ‘job’?” he blinked a few moments afterward as the Cinderace then moved away, satisfied at the damage it had caused before kicking up another pebble and setting it on fire.

“Don’t tell me you’re one of those ‘rich kids’ who hasn’t done a single day of work in their lives?!” he exclaimed a few moments alter as the small pebble that was set aflame grew into another Pyro Ball before it was blasted towards the windshield of the car.

“That’s impossible, how the bloody hell would you not know what work is—” he stammered, flabbergasted at the other man’s lack of… well, it appeared he didn’t care a bloody shit at all about where to get money to support himself!

Adam was here on some business—but mostly, to check out all the battles that were happening all at once.

He was going to find it rather hard to follow just one particular person as there were so many heavy-hitting names present at the Hoenn Star Tournament, but he’d figure out all the other details later.

He’d taken a break from watching the matches and had gone to get himself something cold to drink in the meantime, and was on the way back when he saw that someone had dropped—

“Are—are you alright there, miss?” he asked, concerned as he peered around to see what was going on.

He was so—flippant at the reaction about the money.

Holy shit.

Did he not care at all?

Well, that settles it, he thought to himself as he shrugged. “Well, since you’re not going to take the money back—might as well keep it. Need it for next month’s rent. Bloody-ass expensive renting a one-room apartment here in Lilycove,” he grumbled.

Geez, could this day get any more—worse?!

I am not a charity case! He screamed in the back of his mind… as the smell of those buns tempted him again.

“You’re not going to stop, are you,” he muttered—mostly to himself, before quickly grabbing the offered bag and turning around to examine its contents.

“Bold of you to assume,” he remarked as the Cinderace looked at him once more for guidance.

“What are you waiting for? I already told you, you can go nuts with that! Release all that pent-up rage on the car!”

Somehow, though, it was like the Cinderace could smell Adam’s distress from a literal mile away. However, the Fire-type decided against it and this time approached the car from the back and aimed a Double Kick at the trunk, in an attempt to smash it open and leave it gaping wide for him to set ablaze.

If it was legal to commit a crime right now, Adam would’ve lynched the daylights out of Artie right then and there. Instead, though, he decided to keep his focus on the car.

“Well, do you have a job? I’m here to cover the event. Even if it’s just a part-time gig I have,” he remarked a few moments later.

Because from his observation, Artie didn’t seem to look like he’d worked a single day in his life!

“It sure sounds like you are,” he grumbled as he looked away. Anything to avoid looking at those meat buns, because honestly he would kill a man just to have one.

And admit weakness in front of him? Hell no! he thought angrily before resisting the urge to roll his eyes skyward at the notion.

It was like the dictionary definition had changed—in Adam’s head at least. Instead of his picture, instead there was a picture of this ‘Artie’ there, and—
