The moment he heard that familiar voice, though—

Talk about extreme embarrassment!

“Bollocks, it’s you!” he continued, all thought of yelling at the kid out at front abandoned (so were the cleaning supplies just outside) for the meantime as he leaned on the door frame.

“Fancy seeing you here again, y’know,” he went on, eventually closing the door (and wrinkling his nose at the smell of the room).

“Oh, not a darts opponent?” he cracked, unable to stop the chuckle that had bubbled up and just come out of him with absolutely no warning at all.

Well, if it was going to be for a few minutes, then… ehh, why not then?

“What’re you thinkin’ of singing?”

Well, people who worked his kind of job tended to frequent the not-so-nice sections of wherever they ended up, and this was where Adam was—for the moment.

After that ‘employment opportunity’ fell through, it had been nothing but odd jobs again, here and there.

(At least he had enough to keep his camera in safe storage, for a few months at least, because there was no way he was going to sell it off. Hell no. And unfortunately he had to hide his halberd there as well, thank the bloody hell it was collapsible otherwise…)

He wasn’t too sure what had made him pull open this door—asides from the fact that he was now working another quick part-time job, cleaning up this dingy, banged-up, dusty place for some money.

Merc work was bloody scarce out here.

“Oh, bloody—stupid kid out front didn’t tell me the room was occupied!” he remarked, his accent bleeding through as he was about to hightail it out of the room, suddenly embarrassed.

Time to get some money again.

And, how hilariously ironic and fitting—he had exactly one Pokémon that fit the bill!

(Never mind if he didn’t let the Donphan out that often due to how destructive they could get when left unattended.)

Once he’d left the Pokémon with very specific instructions to help the people clear out the snow, and that he’d be back by the end of the day, the Donphan set to work…

…running around with their head bowed down and just, basically, shoving as much snow out of the way as they could manage before they got a premature case of brain freeze and had to stop and recover for a few minutes!

Well, at least the monotony helped the Donphan get settled into some sort of routine…

Tsk, and it looked like they were on opposing teams for the evening, to boot.

“Ah, finally, something I’m bloody aware of,” he cackled—shame that they were going to be going up against each other potentially, now that darts was the name of the game.

Now, while Adam had good luck with cards, it was his luck with projectiles that was… somewhat questionable because of the fact that his aim was best when he was mounted on Mudsdale-back and just about ready to poke someone’s head off with a nice, long, pointed halberd of all things.

He did fancy himself a knight, or a knight errant, after all.

“Thanks for the shot,” he said as he raised the glass in Guillermo Marceliño’s direction before downing it in one.

“I’ll get the next one,” he countered a few moments later, watching as the darts were literally going… all over the place.

“Hah,” he cackled afterward, once the board was cleared and he took his step up to the board.

“Let’s see whose aim sucks even more,” he went on with a smirk, as he picked up the first dart, took aim, and fired.

On went the second, and so did the third.

Now, much as he wanted to nudge a little… his Heliolisk just watched the proceedings with quiet confusion on his face.

“Aw, not charades?”

Adam’s drawl came out as soon as he knocked down another shot and watched what happened instead—and very nearly got beaned by a flying bag in the process.

“Whoa, okay, bloody hell, this is a lot more… exciting than charades, that’s for sure,” he yelped as he rubbed the side of his head. Yikes, talk about splash damage area of effect!

Anyway—

He then set the shot glass down for now, but held his hand out to indicate he’d be back. Since nobody was stepping up to the plate, might as well go first, eh?

He then realized that majority of his Pokémon companions were on the larger side of the scale, so he decided to go with his Heliolisk. At least this one was humanoid-sized; all he had to deal with was the huge-ass frill around his neck.

Picking up one of the bags that had dried Cornn berries in it, he pondered how best to get it as far enough as he could—and then wound up like a baseball pitcher and sent it flying.

Of course, his Heliolisk was quick to chase after it, smacking it farther with a Quick Attack and hopefully, just hopefully, landing the damned bag into the hole…

“I at least don’t want to get plastered too early,” he replied in his usual drawl, looking over to the familiar-sounding accent he’d heard from somewhere to his left (the other’s right) and raising his shot glass in greeting.

“I’m here for the card games if there’s going to be any later. I reckon they’re starting out small first,” he observed as he set his empty shot glass down and knocked on the counter, before sliding a couple bills across the table for another refill.

“You from somewhere up north?” he ventured. If he had to guess, it was either Wyndon or—Circhester? He hadn’t been home in years, so his memory of the place was rather fuzzy.

He also wondered if the other would be able to tell he was also from Galar.

“M’name’s Adam,” he added a few moments later.

What in the bloody—

Wait, wait, wait, wrong language!

How Adam found himself here again, he would never understand. However, here he was. Lots of people had gathered to watch… the flowers bloom; and then he remembered that he had a travel blog that he hadn’t exactly updated in a while, so this… this would make a pretty good piece.

Anyway…

It was time to get the ol’ camera out of storage, so here he was, looking like a complete dork and trying to get pictures of the congregation of flower Pokémon that had begun appearing in droves—

And then, he saw it.

“Merde!” he hissed, not realizing that he’d actually sworn in Kalosian and not in his standard Galarian…

Maybe there would be other moments…

Okay, if there was something Adam hadn’t exactly… revealed outright it was the fact that he had quite a streak when it came to… gambling.

But see, here’s the thing.

He’d been out of practice for quite a while, so…

Figured, why not come down to something like this and see if he can get the ‘spark’ going again. Of course, he needed a few games to warm up—

Thankfully, he’d come into some money, but he was hanging onto it like a fucking vise and would only drop as much as he needed to.

So for now, he lurked somewhere near one side of the bar, people-watching as he downed another shot.

The Cinderace looked over at him in alarm—being one of his longest Pokémon companions, he’d seen and known things.

“D-d-don’t burn anything,” he hissed, rubbing his hands together as the Fire-type kicked up a fallen object and was tempted to set it ablaze, but a shaking gesture from Adam made him stay his paws.

The Dragapult had basically had it, and then launched Dragon Darts into the swirling mist; the two Dreepies cackling as they were shot out at blinding speed with reckless wanton.

The two Dreepies cackled as they shot through the gloom, attempting to strike at the source of where the voice was coming from.

“Lady, I swear. You leave th-that money alone!” he continued as the Cinderace released a burst of heated air, warming up the area as they continued forward, shoving aside fallen desks as best as they could in an attempt to catch their culprit.
