"Oh— naw. This place is just... of interest to me." He said with a hum. "Lot of these treasures contain considerable amounts of dynergy... otherwise known as Ultra space energy."

He paused, kneeling down as his companions drilled out of the vein a large dynamax crystal, swiping the curios.

"I've got a few experiments to run— for medicine's sake, of course." He winked at Angelo. "So I'm sure nobody will mind if I swipe a few items for myself. Think of it as... reclaiming my surplus value."

Fortunately for the duo, there was little reason to be thinking of past traumas when they were together— at least for Doug, he was generally on pretty good vibes amongst the Dross family.

The room pulsed around them, the core throbbing as radiation spilled outwards enmasse, splashing a wet mass of steel nad limbs unto the ground below.

A giant, armored, hermit crab like creature began to rise, bearing a 'miniature' freighter upon its back and two whole ass anchors on each arm, the clinking of chains filling the room as it released a deafening roar— and swung, sending both of its anchor weapons towards each group.

"Aw shit!" Yelped Doug as he ducked under the mass of steel. "Guys— get on it!"

His Escavalier and Crustle both dropped their tools, launching forth to deal with big guy.

"Not at all! It's a reasonable question to ask!" He said cheerily as he slung his pickaxe over his nape, sliding both of his arms over the shaft as he balanced himself on the balls of his feet. "The correct answer would be no, but actually yes."

As he prepared to launch into an explanation, his mining buddies moved to claim one of the ore veins, slamming drills and pickaxes into them. Good little hardoworkers!

"Lele's gifts did not grant me any supernatural pain tolerance— but they did make me very... careless in my youth." Code for 'Prior to 20 years in Galar'. "Let's just say I've been exposed to levels of pain most human beings don't tend to... survive."

He paused, before shrugging and grinning her way.

"Are you acquainted with the concept of 'pain habituation'?"

"Sooo... Nautica expanding its enterprises into mining now?" He asked with a grin as they arrived at their assigned ore vein, humming. "I guess this is Ultra Deep Sea mining, so it's at least on brand."

John Douglas Sullivan only knew two ways to communicate with the Dross family, and quipping was one of them.

"Your bike's fine, by the way. Been taking real good care of it." He said as he strolled up to the ore vein, pickaxe in hand, flanked by his two fellow veteran miners, his Escavalier and his Crustle. "Pretty sure she likes me more than you now."

He hums thoughtfully instead whilst staring at her text.

"I'm not really sure why he sleeps so much, actually." He said, raising Jirachi's sleeping form up to stare at him, cocking his head. "I could run some standard tests on him for insomnia or narcolepsy..."

He paused, before snickering.

"Doubt that would help, though. The explanation I got was that he was 'resting' after expending too much power before." He explained, slowly bringing back Jirachi to the craddle of his arm.

"As for why we're here—" He said, looking around carefully (and exaggeratedly), before turning a grin to her. "Can't just bring him out in the open anywhere, ya know? That's just asking for trouble."

"Skyler has parents?" He cracked from his corner in front of the poison cabinet, absolute, totally genuine disbelief in his words. "I thought she came fully formed out of sea water."

"No kidding." He said with a sigh, his phone's camera lighting up the room as he began taking several pictures. "By the way, uh... Let's pretend everything was like this when we found it."

They had technically been messing with a crime scene.

"The cops should be here any minute now." He said, scratching at his chin. "Not too sure we should leave it alone, though. Anyone get in in the meanwhile."

As the monstrosity collapsed, the core began to glower and tremble, waves of radiation spilling over them like free flowing river.

It was time to leave.

"Augh...! Let's get out of here, Ivanov!" The youth roared as he threw everything he could on the trolley and began to push it out in a hurry, huffing while trying to shake off the jitters taking over his body. Everything felt off.

He really didn't like this place. But no, that was just the radiation talking... just need to get OUT!

"I'm aware— try not to be too greedy here, though." He said with a grin, doing his best to ignore the tremors that shake the insides of the skelleton. "It's gets costly in the skelly's innards."

He realized he was probably wasting his time when he saw the way the woman's face lit up before treasure. Dear lord, that wasn't something that could be stopped with a warning. '

Best to just try and make it quick, then...

"Faster, boys!" He ordered his mining bugs, smashing the pickaxes and drills into ore veins with greater fervor. The more they got done before it made itself known, the better.

He can feel his nerves frying as the radiation heightens them to impossible extremes— Just ignore it. Ignore it. It can't really hurt you... Not yet.

Meeting Yuina Higashi for the first time.

He gasped whilst covering his mouth, forever forbidden from speaking her name... unless he agreed to become her friend.

"Well now— don't have much of a choice then, do I?" He said with a coy smile, before snickering. "I'll be in your care then... Yuina."

Looked like they were friends now.

His new friend proved rather distraught at hearing his unfortunate circumstances— granted, there was a good deal of misunderstanding going on, largely due to the vagueness of his words...

So he could only laugh, waving his hands gently.

"Oh— no no no, not like that." He said, before pausing, hands still raised as he looked aside, lips pursed. "... Though it wouldn't surprise me if something like that did happen."

This was, after all, Hoenn.

"It's more like... Hm." He paused cupping his chin. "It's more like, I spent a lot, and I do mean, a lot of time somewhere... else. A lot of people did. But... it turned out that we didn't, actually, in the end."

He turned his gaze over to the horizon, peering far into the distance.

"It still feels real, though."

There was a moment of silence after that— one he broke shortly with a clap, turning on his heel.

"But— we're back here now, so it doesn't matter. Everything feels both old and new— like a childhood memory." He said cheerfully, grinning at Yuina as he gathered his hands into his pockets. "But back to the food! Festival's still in town— wanna go for some carnie treats? Easier to move around with those."

Doug hadn't really intended to take part in it— long gone were the days when he was a gym leader, after all— but as a member of AQUA, apparently he qualified.

He wondered if the people were confused by the fact the so called superhuman before them was dressed in the magnificent funtasia's medical staff uniform.

"There. Much better, eh?" He said to a small kid as he finished applying the spinarak-branded band-aid upon his knee, giving a small chuckle. "Try to be careful out there, yeah?"

He matched the child's wide grin with his own, nodding at his boy's mother with a slightly gentler smile before rising from his crouch, waving his hand as they left the med tent.

Turning back to his desk, the youth briefly wrote down something on his pad, humming.

"A single scale was fairly effective." He observed to himself, pocketing his pad shortly before exiting the tent— and immediately running into someone. "OUP!"
