The white walls reflected the rays of sunshine that flooded through the window into Elinor's assigned recovery room.

Elinor was sitting in her bed, pinkette hair gently flowing down over her left shoulder and onto her chest. She rested her back against the bed frame with a pillow in-between, covered in a single thin blanket, Elinor currently spent the time looking down on the bustling streets of Slateport City from her rooms location high up.

She was slowly coming to accept that this freedom was real. That she was no longer in the Rocket jail. And yet, she always anticipated the next person to walk through the doors would be one of the Rocket interrogators. But so far it had only been doctors and nurses coming to check up on her condition.

They all put on a brave face, they all told her that it was going to be alright. That given the circumstances everything was fine.

But then she looked at her arms, and remembered the itchiness and the clawing of skin and flesh. And with the memory came the resurfacing of the itch.

Phantom-itch or Grudge-sickness. The doctors had used a few other names as well. A unfortunate and mildly rare side effect of feeling the full brunt of a Banettes torturous capabilities.

The doctors had tried to lift her spirit by reminding her that it could be worse, that her condition WAS mild. But if this was mild, then honestly she did not want to see what severe looked like. When asked the Doctors could not tell her WHEN it would go away, it could be a day, a week maybe a year or more, there was still so much they did not know about the condition. And because of it there wasn’t much in the way of treatment for this ghastly plague, other than ignoring it as best she could.

She had bitten her tongue to keep her from coming with a snarky reply. She knew they were only doing their job.

And so were the two League Security Officers standing guard outside the Room. They would check, and double check, and triple check, to make sure whoever visited the Councilwoman was exactly who they claimed to be and carried only exactly what they claimed to carry.

Elinor found herself tired. Now safely in the hands of Lars clinging to him tightly, she closed her eyes as he spoke and when next she opened her eyes it was at the sound of rushing medicinal personnel.

They grabbed her from Lars’s clutches, placed her in a nearby bed and started rolling off with her, and as they did they were asking a million and one questions.They took her to a room where they would check on her.

Honestly, she barely noticed any of it. Matique had grabbed her by the throat and was trying to choke her into sleep.

She was finally safe.

But did she dare accept this new reality?

Isaac reminded her that while disappointing, there was still many treasures to be found in reality, treasures worth fighting for.

It stabbed at a part of her heart she hadn’t felt since her first interrogation. Though she wasn’t sure if it was hope or something else.

Still, the very same heart sank as Isaac revealed that there were more prisoners than just her.

“Of course…” She muttered. She wanted to ask if Lars had been captured, but if Isaac didn’t know any names, then it would be no use. Isaac didn’t seem like the type who would lie about that. Still, her hands tensed and tightened into fists in frustration.

Elinor felt some measure of relief as the ointment was applied and her arms were carefully wrapped. But her attention soon turned to the conversation the pair was having.

Elinor knew the risks of wounds carried in an unsanitary place like this. But not acting on the itching sensation was like a dehydrated person in the desert finally finding water. They’d drink it no matter how dangerous it might look.

“Anything that might help me?” Elinor repeated.

“I doubt they would allow you to give me any of the things I can think of.” Elinor stated coldly.

Elinor listened. She was surprisingly good at that for someone with a lot of opinions. Perhaps it was the prison time that had made her hungry for any scrap of information that anyone would provide her with.

She listened to Soyeon’s cowardice statement. She didn’t judge her for it. Soyeon was just an unfortunate person caught in the claws of Team Rocket.

Her gaze did darken as Soyeon spoke of Lugia, the Shadow Machine and how it all made her feel.

“I do not. Thank you.” She still felt the edge of the itch just looming behind covers, but she resisted the temptation for now.

“And no need to apologize for rambling.” She stated.

“I know the feeling you describe surprisingly well. While I haven’t personally experienced Lugia, I’ve stood before Necrozma and Dialga and been shown just how insignificant we all are in the face of such monsters.”

The memories still tormented her, even if they were fading as new experiences both good and bad tried to cover the same canvas.

A Pokémon suddenly appeared. She hadn’t seen from where. Perhaps the man had summoned it? Too busy with and caught by her own mind where she that small details like that didn’t really register.

She looked at the Gallade fearfully at first. But then a soothing healing pulse watched over her and she felt a moment's relief. Enough to quell the itching for the moment. But not enough to make it go away permanently.

The quelling of the itch allowed her a moment of clarity to catch what the man implored her to do.

But only two small words left her mouth. “I won’t…”

But whether or not this would be the truth, was still to be seen.

Lacking sight, sharpened her hearing. At first she heard nothing but the murmuring of other prisoners nearby.

But then something else. At first she didn’t quite believe it. The sound of fighting didn’t make sense. She knew Team Rocket was organized enough to not suddenly devolve into fighting among each other. So it had to be something else. There was only one thing that came to her mind, and that thing fanned the small embers of hope with gentle winds.

It didn’t take long before she heard the cutting of prison bars. Not long after she heard the rushing steps of her cousin alongside his voice.

She didn’t dare believe it to be right.

Tears started rolling, her body started trembling. Happiness.

She felt her chains removed, the cloth covering her eyes alongside them. She saw her savior, and it was Lars. Her prayers had been heard.

She felt her freedom acquired and as Lars made to pick her up, she flung herself around him, hugging her cousin as tightly as wounds and energy permitted as she kept pouring her tears into his jacket. Not a single comprehensible word left her mouth.

The time for keeping up appearances was not now.

Now she was safe to let her feelings out.

And yet some small voice in the back of her head edged her on, telling her that this was not real, that this freedom would be taken from her soon enough… She did not listen. This had to be real.

The Laurence Anderson she had slung herself at had to be real.
