"Perhaps Hoenn's littering laws should be more... punitive." The blonde muttered to himself as he stood up and stretched along the pier, grunting. This would be his 7th dive. It would be the last one for the day; he hoped it would be a good one.

His last attempt had come closest to accomplishing the epic feat of dexterous surfing. Quite problematic; he found it much harder than before to calm himself down now that he had come so tantalizingly close.

"Center yourself."

Breathe in, breathe out. He was this close to success. Just a little more effort...!

Cute, but not all together that useful.

Too excited. He was being too eager in his attempts. Clearly.

His back was red and sore as he sat cross legged atop his mantine, meditating on his latest failure.

It had gone much better than his prior two attempts, as one might've hoped, but it had nonetheless failed too.

Twice was a coincidence, thrice was a pattern. He needed to change his approach.

Thus, he breathed in and out slowly, calming himself down before his eyes fluttered open and he slowly rose to his feet above the mantine.

"Very well— let us try once more."

How... very disappointing.

The blonde's lips were pursed as he hauled himself up onto the pier, rolling the simple dive ball he had acquired in his hand for a moment before tossing it onto the basket.

Well, a free pokeball was a free pokeball, he supposed. He was annoyed at the thought of anyone polluting Hoenn's beaches, but it couldn't be helped.

"Let's pray I do not become a clean up volunteer on pure bad luck."

Gwyar looked unconvinced as the other gym leader gave chase. Nevertheless, he followed after the younger man.

"A simulation of him, perhaps." He said simply, taking note of the buildings around them, of the signs and streets being recreated. Mauville city's indoor section was relatively small, as far as city-scales went.

He would have to investigate the location in the real world when he had time. It was doubtful anything would happen, but it wasn't much of an effort, so he may as well give it a try.

The magikarp splash was not for the weak of heart or mind.

It was the ultimate taste of both dexterity, balance, acrobatics, and a tiny measure of luck.

Despite his best efforts, the blonde had not been able to achieve the heights of acrobatic perfection that the Magikarp Splash required— nay, demanded before being truly performed.

But he was inching ever so slightly closer.

He had this. He could do this.

"Once more." The blonde muttered to himself, determination glowing in his green eyes as he rose atop his Mantine, the water-types body being rapidly pulled into a large wave.

"ONE MORE TIME!"

"These coasts are always so rich in resources..." The blonde mused to himself as he rose above the water's surface, a large, familiar ore in his hand.

This NON-CANON ore was extremely useful for totally NORMAL things like crafting items, and totally not intended to go against the laws of nature and return a pokemon to the adolescent form from which it had grown once upon a time...

Chucking it into his basket, the man regarded his still small but nonetheless considerable haul so far and smiled.

Just a few more trips to the bottom and he would have a rather impressive haul, it appeared...

Truly nothing compared to the inner peace of deep sea diving as a cure to one's own self-inflicted woes.

The Magikarp splash remained as unattainable today as anything possibly could. His back was still red and sore from landing straight on the flat surface from several dozen meters in the air.

As spectacular as his botched attempts could look, he wasn't really achieving much.

"Perhaps treasure will help distract the mind."
