between the mix of drinks falsely sipped and honeyed words bordering modesty, marie was having a delightfully boring time.

the people here acted as you would expect, drunk, lively, and forgetful of their manners, and to top it off, what she could only assume to be dominic sinclair was causing chaos on the upper floors; the sound off from released pokemon challenging the structure of the building. whatever, it’s not like it mattered to her, she had a facade to keep up.

and she would, careful to speak to those still lucid enough to actually understand what she was saying. that is until a certain legendary bird wrapped its icy grip around the throats of those within the building, silence overtaking all as it’s cool countenance pushed it forward.

it heeded an envoy. a call she was not willing to answer.

while the thought of making team rocket stronger with an articuno by her side was tempting, it would draw too much attention to her if she was chosen by the pokemon. watchful eyes always on her, people breathing down her neck, league actually giving a damn about her. it would make living her life as is impossible.

she decided against it, falling back into the crowd carefully, some feigned fearfulness bestowing an escort to her side.

but before she fully left she would look back, spotting those she had previously seen on her ventures around the room. the two beast that shared the title with herself.

she could only hope they wouldn’t be as dumb as previous events had led her to believe them to be; surely they wouldn’t risk exposing themselves so easily. this ball was heavily guarded, and if they jumped so easily at bait, they could end up biting off of more than they can chew.

even criminals need actual friends, and marie was no different from any person her own age. she enjoyed spending time with actual friends and talking as you would with them just as anyone else would, no matter how much she would otherwise let on.

while there were few she would consider herself friends with, there is one that she can safely place that title upon. one whose identity is just as concealed as hers, the heir of devon; emma stone.

out of all the people marie has swindled into friendship, she’s one of the few that has made an actual connection with the beast. one whom she can put trust in. one who’d proven time and time again that her loyalty is not one to be questioned; her situation drawing pity from one unable to feel such emotions.

but pity was not the reason she aimed to meet the heiress this day, they were out for a shopping trip. a break they both needed from their everyday lives.

and while pity was not something she dared to do. it had been thrust upon her anyways.

the way emma had disguised herself to hide from eyes aimed at her was something that would only bring pity to her mind, a slight smile staining her face as she looked over the girl.

“i hope you’re comfortable.”

she said with a bubbly voice.

the touch of another was never welcome to her, and when her personal space was was entered, she wouldn’t be a stranger to telling whoever entered it to back off.

but not him. instead she’d grit her teeth, jaw visibly clenching as he grabbed hold of it.

if he were any other person and she were not trying to get something out of him, she would have quickly swatted away his hand. instead she put up with it, it got her what she wanted in the end.

but as soon as he let go she would jerk her head back down, rolling her jaw slightly and looking to the ground, a bitter, “thank you.” said in reply. she had already gotten what she asked for, the risk of losing that was not something she dared to chance.

“you plan to hit lavaridge next?”

slateport was expected, it’s the central hub for league and taking it was a huge success on their part, but lavaridge was just some town with hot springs and old people. what could he have possibly wanted with it?

how flattering. to be called a powerful weapon by a man was sure to make any woman swoon.

she had to suppress rolling her eyes at the comment before replying.

“put a little more faith in your other subordinates or keep them on a shorter leash. whatever you do, let me have a little me time, i’m tired of playing pretend with these people.”

making confidants left and right was bothersome. along with keeping up the facade of a modest girl too pure to do bad as well as staying in contact with said confidants, the whole ploy was was all starting to get on her nerves.

and again, what the others did was not her concern. if they had to endure hardship brought upon by their employer to rekindle what dying flame he held for them, then they’d have to suffer on their own. she wasn’t here to hold any hands.

“as for where i’m going. unova. i want to visit family.” tilting her head back she’d look to the sky, then turn to silas at her side. “even a weapon gets homesick sometimes.

his words were unexpected yet expected. unexpected in the fact that he so easily bent to her wishes, and expected that he did.

she didn’t concern herself with what other rockets did or did not do, all that mattered is that she had succeeded; anything else was just random trivia, but hearing she had been one of few to succeed, almost stunned her… almost.

in all honesty, this would only make her demands carry that much more weight, which was exactly what she needed right now.

completely turning her body to him she’d go to take a seat on the ledge, crossing one leg over the other as she spoke her wishes.

“i want to take some time off for myself, don’t come to me for anything for at least a week, two at most. and if something pops up that only i can do, find someone else to do it… that’s all i ask.”

she knew she’d be pushing it if she asked for anything more than what she had. this deal was the least she could ask, planning to do the most with it.

slateport was now under rockets control, that was clear to the entire region, so the sight of a girl like her going in and out, with the possibility of being seen by anyone passing by, wasn’t going to earn her any blessings on their part. these nuisances were easily taken care of, but it would be less of a hassle if she could avoid being spotted in the first place.

the top floor of a hotel she had stayed in the night before seemed to be the best place to commune with who she aimed to, the rocket leader, silas.

a xatu would meet with the man, teleporting him to her exact location; all factors of being seen being eliminated with this option, no flying, no commutes, nothing except the slight dizziness that followed from the sudden shift of location.

looking over her shoulder marie would return her gaze over the side of the building, watching those below continue on with their day.

“my birthday was right before that slateport business…” she’d halt her words, taking a step back “-i wanted to celebrate it but with all that was going on i couldn’t make time for myself.”

again, she would let silence ruminate, continuing after the brief pause, turning her body slightly with a bitter smile and hiding the discontent she felt; holding back a scowl. “i will be reimbursed for the time spent taking over that mess of a city, won’t i?”

renting a room at this hotel had its benefits, she could sit in here as long as she wanted and relax until she was ready to finally leave.

her attendance at this ball wasn’t expected, but in order to save face, she decided to make an appearance anyways. being at the scene of the commissioners disappearance, she would have probably have been a prime suspect. showing her face at such a gathering would probably lower any notoriety she may have garnered from doing so.

with one final look at herself she would exit the room, immediately spotting a man rush by, his figure blurred as he moved to gods knows where. she was almost tempted to follow him, just to see where he was headed off to, but she knew it would only be a waste of time. so instead she’d go her own way, calmly.

as she headed down the staircase, her eyes would lock with a seemingly familiar face, dominic sinclair, guess she wasn’t the only one here feigning normality. but to her, it seemed that his form of normal and hers would differ. if he wasn’t trying to draw attention to himself he could do a better job than talking to that busboy as he did.

whatever, it wasn’t her business. she had her own plans for the night, and whatever he was up to he could handle himself. all she had to to was slip into the ballroom and start chatting people up for the night.

As the lights cut, the xatu would emerge from its hiding place, swooping in and silently performing air slash, slicing into Marie’s arm to release her hold on the commissioner as it grabbed her, quickly using teleport to completely remove her from the area.

Deep cuts sawed through the flesh of her arm, the razor sharp wind nearly taking the hand that grasped onto dahlia clean off and forcing her to let go, she could only watch in quiet as the one she was escorting was quickly whisked away.

Once the lights return she crouch down, blood staining the sweater and pooling onto the floor under her, the opposing arm applying pressure to the deep wound as she shivered in place silently, too shocked to even let out a cry. But tears fell nonetheless, pain once again appearing where it was lost.

• xatu flew out from hiding and used AIR SLASH on marie and cut her arm pretty bad then TELEPORTED dahlia goode away. all this under the cover of the dark.

• marie is kneeling down with her arm messed up and crying silently.

• keeping up the guise that she’s just a civilian caught up in all this.

The plan she had thought up in the short amount of time was perfect, no notches, no split ends, no separating paths, it was perfect, and as she got ready to set it into action, and unseen force knocked her away, pushing her against the wall she previous crouched near.

Where she was positioned, she could not adequately see the claydol set itself up to self destruct, and everything going on didn’t help her sense it either.

Tears fell from her eyes as she rubbed her head, blood staining a portion of her fingers when she dared to look at them. But there was no time to worry about pain, her target was in sight, and she had an opportunity to act. Her previous plan had to go out the window, and the pokemon that was part of it was out cold. So, returning the sylveon, she would leave the xatu out, its body scratched up here and there as it gave her a 1000 yard stare. It was good to go.

Pushing off the wall, leaving a mark of blood on it as well as the ground, she would rush to the commissioners side, quickly grabbing hold of one of the older woman’s shoulders.

“Miss Goode!” She’d shout as tears fell from her eyes. “We have to get you out of here, let’s go!”

She put on a brave face even with the tears falling as she looked around, trying to find anywhere they could escape. Then, lo and behold, one of the many holes that had been made in the building was on the ground floor. So, she would quickly grab hold of the commissioners arm, doing her best to drag the woman with her.

“There’s sure to be league outside that can help us, we just need to make it there!”

• got knocked against the wall she was nearby and hit her head a bit, slight concussion, it's cool don't look at it

• sylveon is knocked tf out so returned it like a bad gift, but left out xatu to help

• trying to get dahlia goode to run out of the hq with her to "get help"

The young womans eyes would squint tempted to make a meal out of the spider that aimed its sights on her sylveon, but right now, time was of the essence, she had none to spare.

So quickly before it got a chance to properly close the gap, she would release a xatu with only the slightest motion, the bird quickly teleporting the three of them away.

When everything was clear she would look around at her surroundings only to see that she stood where she once cowered, the ground floor. hey look, theres her spaghetti, still spilled on the floor.

And woah, the commissioner is right there too? How lucky could she get. Luckier if there weren’t like 8 people protecting her. She’d have to lay low for the time being, keeping her distance from the fighting and focusing on a plan to successfully get out of this without having to get her hands dirty in the process.

• sent out xatu teleported away from that stinky ol spider
• back where she started with her spilled food still there
• thinking of how to get out of this mess without having to fight

there was a lot if shit goin on. she needed to get to her next point as fast as she could. and with all the commotion going on right now, she could easily get lost here.

ducking her head, he’d hop up quickly running to cover while everything went down, and once she was out of sight she’d send out a sylveon, light screen stairs forming in a spiral to assist her up a few floors.

now to find the commissioner, and ignore whatever other hindrances show themselves.

• ran away under all the chaos and hid away from anyone
• sent out her sylveon and made a light screen staircase to get herself further up
