“stay docile.”

she thinks to herself as marcel gives her the simplest answer he could muster up. it seemed he knew where the line was drawn for the two of them, and considering it was made in concrete it was all too easy to see.

when the crossroad of a river appeared he was kind enough to offer her a ride, and considering the fact that he was leading the way, she was in no position to question why. instead she’s look to the offered ride, her features contorting questionably before releasing a wishiwashi into the water.

“i can handle myself.” was her answer.

the water began to cloud over as a mass of fish formed together, each step she took garnering another swarm, pathing her to the other side.

“the only chivalry i need is from my pokemon, sir maeda.”

her tone was prodding- almost joking- as she continued crossing, her eyes averting towards him before long.

“do you have any idea where you’re going?”

her roots spread far and wide, taking hold of whatever it was that caught the attention of the ensuing bramble ill-named friendship that stemmed from none other than marie. it was no surprise that she had ensnared someone as well known as an extreme sports athlete.

when she went missing marie was one of the first to jump to action, ready to reap the spoils that came with finding the girl- or her remains at the very least. they would either cherish her all the more or reward her for her actions.

thoughts of what/if clouded her mind quickly, but when it came time to act, she was not exactly the right person fit for the job.

she was no trained stoutland when it came to finding missing things, but she knew a few people that were, and the first that came to mind was someone of more tolerable presence than your run of the mill grunt she had the displeasure of associating with.

he had no choice but to comply, naturally, so when they began, she dumped the load onto him; silent up to this point, only looking back with a plan face when questioned.

“yes, i did, but i figured since you’re a detective, or whatever, that you’d be an ace at this. was i wrong to put any sort of trust in you?”

demands were met swiftly, a file shoved in her direction without a fang bared.

she liked this kind of obedience.

and with her first catch pulled in, she was almost ready to leave. there was just one more thing she needed.

sliding the document into her bag, she’d take out a phone sliding it his way.

“keep this one you, it’s a burner that i can make call to if so be. i’ll call if if i need to.”

and with that, she’d turn, her heel grinding into the flooring as she did, one last remark shot off as she moved towards the door she entered from.

“i hope we can have a healthy relationship from here on out.”

her words came out in a cheery tone as she turned back, a rehearsed smile staining her face as she she opened the door, leaving with little room for response.

their roles in this relationship were clear, and she needed to cement it with one final nail in this metaphorical coffin. this deal was more of a demand than anything.

“don’t play dumb.”

she says straightforward and outright, her tone scornful as her features mildly contorted.

“we both know how i operate, and your job happens to intersect with mine, so the less time we have to deal with each other the better. give me information on people you deem worthy of me interacting with, i don’t care who they are- as long as you dug your nose in their business- i want to know them.”

it was easy to get on her bad side, the quick temper only hastened as she was forced to explain further on. it was bothersome to talk more than what was needed.

good, he knew his place and was quick to get down to business, she liked that; but it seemed he was ready for something not quite what she had in mind.

“while i’m happy you are so easy to comply, i don’t have a job for you, rather an order for me.”

she took a resting stance, her eyes locked on the back (or side?) of his head as she spoke.

“my name is marie jules, and i want you to give me information on people. who those people are doesn’t matter, i just need to know what they like, what they do, and how they work.”

her words prompt and precise as he said them, not a word more than what was needed and every word needed said.

with the reputation her name holds it should be obvious what she plans to do with these people, so she figured not to explain any further than how far she had.

the saltwater wind kissed her cheeks sweetly, a smile forming on the young girls face as she moved delicately through lilycove, her skirt gently flapping as she pressed forward, a hand pushing down where the wind picked up.

she’d wave to those in passing, her cheerful smile turning heads while a pretty face kept their eyes on her.

her facade would diminish as she stood in front of a door, a few knocks sounding before she let herself in.

she took in the interior of the office quietly, any semblance of her outside self disappearing as she confronted the proprietor of this location.

“you look exactly like the description so i’m going to assume that you’re marcel, am i right?”

jk, lets make these two have an iffy relationship where they tolerate one another but are cold when talking to one another.

a straight business relationship that you could take or leave but don't leave because it's kind of comfortable having someone at a decent distance from you.

these two seem like polar opposites and i would really enjoy something akin to him becoming someone she actually tolerates within rocket.

marie is the kind of girl that only talks to rockets when she needs to. if she could avoid talking to anyone not of importance she would avoid it.

she's someone that establishes connections with other citizens in a way that those that know her would only speak good of her, effectively able to dissuade anyone from believing her to be rocket. i see her going to marcel in order to mooch info off of him.

she could come to him so he can point her towards the direction of those to make nice with, whether they be someone of great influence or just another person to add to her collection of 'friends.'

from this i could see their relationship slowly turning to friendship, her just coming around to chat when she has the time to; meanwhile they both second guess one another, her wondering if he's actually just investigating or genuinely being nice to her, and him questioning whether she's just trying to get on his good side only to betray him eventually.

even with the shit shoveler on her shit list, marie had to commend their synchronization with their task. they were handeled with ease and with little communication needed on either front. though that didn't stop her from putting up a friendly front with him, a light prod here and there as they shuffled the steeds.

once the task were completed, marie would set both hands on her hips and give a big sigh.

"that was fun!" she'd shout before looking back at the man with a smile.

"i might be shorter than you, but at least i don't have poo residue on my hands."

got em. and with that, she'd report in, quickly heading off as fast as possible to get the hell away from this man.

the xatu would not process the joke, simply giving the man an.

"okay."

before continuing through the temple. it was peaceful but the xatu would keep an eye out for any traps that it could spot along the way, as well as any that were unfortunate enough to fall victim to said traps. unfortunately, nothing. no tiddy traps of any kind.

at least they got what they had come for, and for that the xatu was thankful.

"i apologize in advance."

was the last thing that was communicated before they were teleported to slateport, the xatu staying behind only for a moment to support the man before it zipped off.

she'd quickly finish, in a rush to collect whatever trash remained so she could make her way out of this shit hole of a city.

trying her final garbage bag shut, she'd look to the man, ripping off the mask to show her frowned face.

"it was to hide my face, shit for brains, why else would i dress up like this? you think i enjoy being hot? no, its so i don't get seen with someone unfavorable or in this rattata nest formerly know as slateport"

she'd pause, throwing the mask to the ground, another piece of litter for him to clean up.

"you know what, i'm done trying to help this place look decent, if you guys want to have this city, you can have it. it fits scum of the earth like you."

she'd mutter under her breath, obviously bothered as she looked away.

"i'm going to have to talk to the boss."

and with that, she'd move back, making her way to the nearest alleyway before disappearing without a trace.

her smile would squint her eyes as she picked up the brush, putting a hand on her hip coyly.

"you already picked~"

she winked as she guided a rapidash out of the stall and towards the watering hole, brushing it as she waiting for her 'comrade' to finish his shit shoveling job in its stall.

she could tolerate a lot of things, she wouldn't be in the position she's in if she couldn't, but the smell of that barn was not something she cared for. lucky for her he had already given himself the unfavorable role.

oddly enough, it suits him.
