How long's a while? Quiet a lot, at least for her. Damn near half her life. Not a good half, either.

She doesn't say that. Instead her face tightens for a moment before relaxing with a humorless, breathy laugh.

"A while," she repeats simply in lieu of an actual answer, "Happy you've been at it long enough not t' be any trouble. Was worried I'd be stuck babysittin' some green idiot."

"Captain Plank" puts some genuine mirth back into her expression. The smug smile returns a little weaker than before. It's short lived.

The next avenue of discussion is shady and too narrow for her to comfortably walk down. Plank's hand tightens on the throttle as she turns suddenly sharp eyes on Ozaki.

They flicker over to the gentle touch the older girl gives the merchandise and her stomach does that little twist again.

"This job is important t' me," she starts, voice rigid, "I can't risk takin' any hits t' my reputation. Not this early in t' my workin' here."

It's not necessarily a no, but it's certainly not a yes either.

[attr="class","spiral"]Jack seems a little irritated at the revoke of his shanty privileges, but more feather scratching is enough to smooth over his disappointment. By the time the recruiter approaches the duo he's managed to satisfy himself by biting at her hair and mindlessly chattering in her ear. It's soothing in perhaps the weirdest way.

Thanks to the momentary reprieve her nerves don't spike all the way back to where they were at the question, but Plank can't help but roll her fingers across the heel of her palm as she walks around the ship to look out towards their fast approaching destination.

"Well, ya got me a li'l outta my element out here in Galar," Plank admits with more sarcastic bite than genuine concern, "but I figure the basics are the same anywhere. For dockin' we want t' avoid any actual port we don't have ties in. An actual look at our cargo by any god-fearin' lawman will have us in the shit faster than a skinny dip in a sewer."

She scratches at her face a little as she thinks. Jack nibbles on a few of her fingers when they get within beak distance.

"Maybe if we work fast we can set up on a beach. It's fuckin' frigid so there shouldn't be anyone there; and as long as we offload quick 'n' let the boat leave no one should get curious enough t' cause trouble . . ." She sighs a little, "I mean, assumin' we've got some more discrete way of movin' the dopes than herdin' 'em to where we need 'em."

Plank lays on the floor of the Vagabond, staring up at the stars. In her arms, wrapped in a gentle but firm hug, is a pokemon egg. It's comfortable and nostalgic but she doesn't know yet if she likes it.

The last time she'd been like this was a little over a year after her father moved them to Hoenn. The egg then had been Baby's, the ship much larger and her father's.

The moment that time was far from leisurely. A stolen fifteen, maybe twenty minutes while her father made a delivery. She was supposed to be cleaning up but her arms were tired and her legs still sore and bleeding in spots from earlier in the day when she'd taken too long handling the "merchandise".

It's nice to know this time she can lay like this as long as she wants, but still . . . The chance to lose herself in thought feels wasted when that's where her thoughts wander.

[attr="class","spiral"]With the kind of mood he's in Hull hardly needs to be prompted into beating the Cacnea down; and since the other trainer volunteered her pokemon Plank doesn't see any reason to rein him in. The moment that tumbleweed of a pokemon comes charging Golisopod jumps into action.

"He's gonna regret it," Plank says simply. Her hair momentarily whipped into the air by Hull's sudden burst of movement.

Hull's carapace clad feet tic tic tic in rapid succession as he sprints across the pavement to clear the small space between him and his outclassed opponent. One of his claws glows momentarily before swiping forward -- a FIRST IMPRESSION this Cacnea is unlikely to forget any time soon.

hey Chu-e Choi is funny and interesting and i enjoy him a lot that's the opener. also i like his tendency to adopt children, plank needs to be adopted a lot a bit so maybe they can have a cute "teenager hates her step-dad that's just trying to relate" thing or something idk.

more substantially, plank is currently in a plot where she's training under gavin. longterm goal is for her to be a a protege for him and work on climbing up to beast (assuming there's a slot open when she qualifies) and their relationship is going to be Fraught(tm). i think it might be fun to offset gavin's more harsh approach with choi's more lighthearted energy?

she'd still be learning primarily under gavin but maybe when she's stressed out from that they can connect? especially once plank has risen a bit and isn't just another grunt anymore. idk!
