Though it isn't strange to be approached by a stranger out of the blue, what's most strange is how she's faced with a strangely threatening introduction. What about the smile? Or the pokemon she called out? Were they not here to be friends? And why was she brandishing an armband with a big R on it?

There are so many questions but simply not enough answers to satisfy.

What she does understand is that she might be getting mugged and Ren is quick to catch onto the notion too, hissing softly as he tenses up.

"I uhm... is that a new way of asking to battle?" Her voice is meek, her head canting as her eyes watch the other for signs of sincerity. Perhaps, she's gotten rusty at reading people. Or perhaps, she's never been good at it to begin with... either way, she reckons that D.D might just be a little shy and socially awkward. That would explain her thorny attitude, right?

"Ren's my best friend, so I don't think I'd give him to you...?"

Regardless, Lumia's already settling for a backup plan, her fingers clutching tight around her phone in her pocket. Within seconds, a message is sent, her location delivered right to Laurence Anderson phone without any hints as to why.

"Is there an alternative? I could help you look for wild pokemon?"

A bright green Minior? Her mind wanders through all the possibilities when given the chance. Mint? Basic, but a truly cute name. Mimosa? Calla?

"What about Clover?" She grins, keeping her hands behind her back as she straightens her posture. "Four-leafed, for the best of luck!"

When Lars tilts his head, Lumia mimics him, her gaze following his own until they fall upon an open bar. For a brief moment, she worries but the other half of her is drawn in by the prospect of making new friends for once in her life. She sways on her feet, repeatedly tucking loose strands of hair behind her ears. Will they be nice? What kind of people does Lars associate with? Will they be okay with watching the meteors together? What if that's too much to ask?

"I- uhm... sure! Let's go!"

No matter how many concerns she has, she'll never be able to find out if she doesn't try her luck. All she has to do is hope!

It's rare that she leaves her humble abode in the peaceful town that is Oldale. Most times, journeys can be attributed to the fact that she has to make deliveries to other cities but this time, it seems to be more of a secret trip to get away from the gloom that floods her home. No message to Laurence Anderson to let him know where she's going, only a bare bones notice pasted on the door that the shop will be closed for a few days.

"He doesn't need to have tabs on us at every single point of day." She huffs, idly kicking the air as the ocean breeze blows past the tidal walls. "I'm not a kid anymore..."

Over her shoulders, Ren drapes himself as a faded scarf, swaying in the wind as the chorus of Wingulls intertwine with the crashing waves. As per usual, he offers no input on the issue, seeing no reason to insert himself into a familial dispute. The duo really should be old enough to talk things out, but communication tends to break down when one refuses to yield.

Alas, there seems to be no moving the one that fears loss.

There are many questions that arise from his phrasing, many more avenues he opens with each unrelated word he speaks but she knows he's diverting, trying to escape the fate of having to tell her. And yet, he comes into her house with nothing but worries written all over his face - She doesn't know whether she should be laughing or crying at this one.

"What happened in Sootopolis? What did you do?" She has to ask, or he'll keep running with his tail between his legs. Whatever that's happened in his past, whatever fears haunt his dreams, she may never get the chance to know. But do they truly still linger in his mind when he sees her?

"One way or another, I will end up finding out. And I think you'd rather it be you breaking the news rather than a stranger with bad intentions."

He tenses at the sight of fingers flicking towards pokeballs, the stranger earning himself a harsh growl from the rattled Dragapult. But before he can leap at him to eliminate all signs of potential danger, Ren finds himself restrained by a hand upon his head, a concerned look from his trainer forcing him to take a deep breath.

"I'd appreciate the help, really!" The sooner she finds those dogs, the quicker she leaves this place behind. "I'm looking for these pups so I can get them home and all... and that's one of them right there!" Shoving the pictures into the other's hands, Lumia's whistling for the Furfrou, carefully waving a snack in hand. It stops in its tracks, eyes widening as it looks at the food then the duo and back again.

"Cmon boy, your family's waiting for you at home." She kneels as the dog cautiously approaches, the scent of dirt and ash smeared all over its matted coat. The battle that Laurence Anderson had talked about must have been worse than he'd bothered to let on. Nevertheless, she had grilled him sufficiently that night and she could grill him again another time. Once the Furfrou takes the snack from hand, Lumia gives it a bit of time to chew before holding out a bottle of water and slowly pouring the liquid out for it to drink.

"Must've been rough, huh? I have more snacks if you want them..."

I think it was because of the loud fireworks or something... Tapu Bulu really scared me though! Imagine standing right next to it when it goes wild..." Placing a finger to her lips, Lumia tries really hard to recall the reasons that had been given in the aftermath of the festival.

But she doesn't have to think hard, for she's easily distracted by everything else going on around her. As the moonlit waterfalls of Minior draw her away from Lars' side, quite a bit of his warnings simply fly over her head. What kind of danger lurks in a public place like this? Well, if you ignore the child with a knife and all... There are times where she reckons Lars will worry himself to death before anything actually happens to her!

"Are you gonna name it? Ooo! Can I name it? Gotta give it a really cute name..." With the familiar red flash of light caught in the corner of her eye, Lumia tiptoes and gingerly reaches for the pokeball as if asking him to release the brilliant star. It's only when Ren rests his hand against her palm that she stops to listen, pouting softly as she gives thought to her answer.

"Do they have anything sweet? Kinda craving something sweet right now..."

Familiar... as in like a friendly kind of familiar? It's hard for her to understand what goes on in Lars' mind at times, but she's learnt to roll with the punches. As has Ren in dealing with all kinds of strange situations - The Unown fiesta, the weird stabbing from the other side of the crowd, the fruit punch being a little sweeter than he's expected... Life goes on, whether he likes it or not.

"Things to do... I've got nothing? Don't really get to visit places like this that often, you know? Last I attended something as wild as this, Tauros were stampeding through the town."

Ah, the Vital Spirit Festival, was that what it had been called? Seeing Tapu Bulu emerge amongst the crowd had been a rather pleasant surprise as well!

"But uhm..." Her gaze drops to the ground, her fingers getting fidgety as she sways her weight from one foot to another. "I was... kinda... hoping... to meet new people and uhm... make new friends... i- if I could..."

He worries too much, that's why he keeps her in a bubble and doesn't tell her things. Whenever he does something dangerous, whenever he's faced with concerns, he rarely goes to her because of this exact reason - The fear that she'll get involved, possibly hurt and worse, killed in action.

But recognition of that concern doesn't do much in quelling the tumultuous emotions that swirl in her chest.

"I can handle myself." She passes the ice cream sandwich back towards the Sylveon, the taste in her mouth far too bitter to be washed away by cold treats. "I haven't gotten into any sort of trouble for the past 19 years and there's barely any reason for them to do such a thing."

The threat of kidnapping really hasn't crossed her mind, mostly due to the fact that she holds such little value in the grand scheme.

"If they were truly searching for intel to get at people like me, I would have expected them to be knocking at the door by now. If they're as dangerous as you say, then keeping me in the dark won't save me from their reach."

Ren's grip on her shoulder tightens but he makes no sound.

"Sooner or later, people are going to find out, be they good or bad. You can't protect me forever, Lars..."

His ghostly presence around Lumia's neck is enough for him to work with, the Dragapult keeping her grounded to save her the trouble of falling. In turn, he merely watches as Lars continues to flail about, emotionless as to the plight of the man as he takes a nice, long sip of his fruit punch.

"You doing alright there?" With Ren's handiwork, Lumia remains oblivious as to whatever may be happening to the people in this very observatory, apart from the floating people and pokemon stuff. "Did someone Psychic you?"

Her attention flickers to the Unown, being chased by numerous people who can't help but attempt to trample over one another for ownership of the poor thing. The more she stares at it, the more she can't help but ask if everyone has simply lost their mind.

Perhaps, they never did have any to begin with. It is Hoenn, after all.

"Trying your luck too?" She distinctively notes the lack of warmth around her shoulders, a sign that Ren has upped and disappeared for the briefest of moments. No doubt because he entrusts her safety in Lars' hands. But just as quickly as the sensation fades, it returns as a Dragapult with drinks in hand - Fruit punch, seemingly not spiked from what he could tell of his little taste test.

"Just be careful... You could pull a muscle swinging your arms this hard without warming up."

That said, the same could go for anyone in the room, a wild hand appearing out of nowhere as its owner haplessly flails. In an instant, Ren untangles himself, his tail swung straight for the hand as he snarls with bared teeth.

If it weren't for the ruckus the crowd was kicking up indoors, Lumia probably wouldn't have noticed if the observatory itself got torn to the grounds. Her Dragapult is ever the protective mother hen, snapping awake and wrapping around her neck when she dares to make a move towards chaos itself.

Thankfully, they spy a familiar face within the crowd just seconds after entering the room.

"Lars? What's going on?"

It's as if the details of that day have been swept under the bridge, buried in some deep corner of her mind as she sees the man for the one she's known and cared for all her life.

"Did everyone eat something wrong or something?"

Grand parties have never been her things, for they have never been a thing in Oldale Town. Barring that one festival held in the town where her flower pen got trampled and she spent a whole night crying, she's never really had a taste for crowds or celebrations. But one thing she's always been drawn to is the allure of nature and all the gifts it bears.

When a messenger comes delivering the tales of a comet-filled sky, she's plucking up the courage to see, no matter how out of place she may feel. Pulling her shawl closer to her, Lumia's more or less nestled in a quiet corner away from the noise, accompanied by a sleepy Dragapult who threatens to kick his bowtie right off. No alcohol, no connections, no thoughts, head empty.

If only the stars could arrive quicker.

Does she want to know? Hasn't she always? From childhood till present, she's always been sheltered by others, always been kept from the bitter truth for whatever fears and reasons they may possess.

"I need to know. I don't want to be the only one left out." She murmurs, "It's scary."

Ribbons gently curl around her arms, a sorrowful coo ringing by her feet as a Sylveon gently nudges her side. Another hum and she's greeted by a solemn Dragapult, his ghostly figure wrapping around her shoulders and refusing to leave. Reaching out to the table, Astra grabs a cookie and dangles it before her trainer, patiently waiting for her to take it.

If it's gonna be a long night ahead, then they'd rather she not spend it alone.
