A, nice. The Bagon was amicable. She would try to get it back to its parents, but if she couldn’t, she would offer it a place to stay at least. That would be the best course for the time being. The boy, meanwhile, seemed to have his own scuffle, yet seemed to succeed in that as well. Apparently, this area was a bit of a hotspot for dragon types, which was something interesting for her own notebook. She hadn’t seen a spot like this back in Kalos.

Her nearby compatriot had briefly gone down to apparently commune with another one of those. Interesting to see how easily he went into the water. Most people wouldn’t do that, even in a town like this. It would have been far more common to just use a Pokemon to pull the other up or so. Or toss them away, incidentally. She noticed that nearby, with someone using a broom to try and brush a Pyukumuku back into the ocean. The little thing was blown away with great gusto. Taking a bit of pity at it, Eve threw one of her balls at the unwanted Pokemon. It looked interesting. She was sure that it wasn’t the kind of thing one should just brush aside.
A returning young man pulled her attention back towards him, however. “Uhm, I do have a Lapras and that was mostly it. I was not big into catching Pokemon until I started travelling. I did not really need them, but I have gotten more invested in catching them once I went to Alola.”

“Oh, I see,” she replied, not disappointed or anything. Truth be told, she had absolutely no idea as to what a caretaker like this actually did. She knew caretakers for gardens and estates, but mountains were something she hadn’t even thought to need such things. But then again, she didn’t know too much about jobs outside of her own field of expertise, so that was probably to be expected.

After all, as a second-generation singer, she never had had much to do with any caretakers others than those taking care of her. “Though, honestly, I always found that hobbies are often the truer expression of passion than a career. Those are creatures of chance, upbringing and passion, while hobbies are usually all the latter~.” Then again, for her it was coincidentally both the same, so she wasn’t the best to talk about this.

She didn’t play, naturally. Well, maybe it only appeared to be second nature to here, not others. Her body was lightly athletic, certainly, but that was mostly cardio. She’d never been properly allowed to play volleyball or things like that, for fear of injury. The only sports mother had wanted her to do were those good for the body, solo matters where no opponent or teammate could hit her face with a stray ball or something.



But she did like to watch sometimes. It was less that she was envious of the racketeers – after all, if she truly wanted to join then and there, nothing or no one would really stop her. But after not doing these things for all her life, she also did not feel a particular drive in that moment. Instead, she just watched – both the players and the pokemon, who were kind of joining the games, ironically. Her own hand only itched here and there, but mostly towards the pokeballs. Just in case an opportunity arose to catch one of those.

“You really do get around then, one month to almost see it all,” she replied, half teasing. It took her a few moments to get more flippant like that, but it also was not impossible. In a way, she liked to test people like this. See if they were the kind that appreciated at least a little wit, even if it came in an unorthodox fashion. Especially when she was as relaxed as she was here.

Though it was rather interesting that he travelled that far that fast. “A visit to Kalos is usually worth it. We have some rather interesting sights. And Dual Types too, I reckon.” A brief laugh. She didn’t quite get what was so interesting about those, but she could appreciate the appreciation of others. “Are you going to Mt. Pyre for research purposes too? I must admit that I am a bit ignorant of that particular place, though if a researcher takes care of it, there has to be something special about it.”

Exceptionally far, huh? She probably wouldn’t agree. Being from Kalos, as he kind of inferred himself there, meant that she was used to longer distances. That he called it exceptionally probably meant that he didn’t travel all that much. That shirt was probably not even properly from Alola, sadly.

Eve briefly and quietly sighed to herself. Alola had been such a nice place. In fact, this kind of ‘work’ reminded her a lot of it, allowing for some reminiscing. Though he carried the conversation on, so she was bound to reply. “No residency, no. I haven’t actually had one other than home in Kalos, come to think of it.” Briefly, she pondered. Though it all made enough sense, so she did not bother too much. “I am on a journey all around the world to hone my craft and get to know the different cultures. Started in Kalos, then Alola, then Kanto, now Hoenn.”

No teachers? She could buy that easily. But no parents was on a whole different level. Was he an orphan? That didn’t really make sense either. An orphan would never be this sheltered. They had a much tougher life ahead of them. She raised a brow. He was probably telling the truth here – or at least what he believed that to be – but it still didn’t make too much sense.

Though it was not her problem really. And probably a smart call not to make it hers. Being a busybody in a foreign country was probably not going to work out too well for her. But she wanted to give at least some advice. “Well, if you just started, then you still have time to turn back. Go to a city and ask around for a trainer school at least. You might be a little old, but if they are anything like those I know from home, they won’t just turn you away because of that. They can at least give you an introductory course. Much better than I could, anyway. And you should have that at least before challenging wild Pokemon.”

Relaxed? Yes, she very much was just that. After all, she could simply let her Pokemon do all the work while kicking back. There was little better than that. Especially with great weather like this, neither too hot nor too cold, a gentle breeze in the air and the occasional cloud to offer a little variety. And all she really had to do here was to make sure that Lapras didn’t just get distracted and float out onto the ocean or anything like that. Certainly, that was a burden she could bear. But just barely.

Soon enough though, they had another swim-in with that one guy. He seemed a lot more talkative now. Though she waved away his apology. “Don’t stress about it. We are technically here to work, after all. And names aren’t really hall that important here.” Or in general, at least among people like them. The kind that probably would not see one another again, anyway. Then again, maybe she was just a bit jaded, growing up in the show business to an extent. She’d met way too many people over her life exactly once. One learned not to bother until the second time.

Still, he had introduced himself, so it was only proper she’d do the same. Though it did mean leaning over Lapras’ side to an almost dangerous degree, she didn’t really mind all that much. Balancing like that came natural to her as well. “I am Evette, from Kalos. Though I heard of Mt. Pyre, it is supposedly a very interesting place to visit. Is it far from here?”

Huh. Had he really not understood before? Eve found herself blinking at the boy incredulously. He seemed so sincere and even as if he understood – but that didn’t mesh too well with his actions beforehand. As if he….somehow truly had not understood as much. Yet, he did seem to be around her age. How could he have known this much at least?

That did leave her relatively confused – and unable to really be mad at him. But not so much for others. “I am Evette,” she replied, the pronunciation making it obvious that it was a Kalosian name. She didn’t have that much of an accent – aside from times when she wanted to lay it on thick – but her name she’d never adapt. A lot of people just considered here Eve, but it was off slightly in her ears. “But your parents really should have told you as much before letting you out into the wild. Or your teachers. You did have either of those, did you?”

Well, maybe her own vibe would have been creepier had her Ghastly been around. Then again, he used that type of Pokemon himself, so he probably did not care too much. There sadly were silly people who still seemed convinced that ghosts were cursed or something like that. It was pretty stupid, but what could she do? Just shrug and move on, most of the time.

Now, she moved on too, but not because of superstition. He had unloaded all her wood by now, after all. “Understood. Well, we’ll make a round to the floatsam spot and pick up some more. We shall meet again to the south, then.” Might as well. Technically, it did not matter where she brought the wood as long as it was used by some of the workers. But this one had a Ghastly to make unloading easier and he told her where to go next, making for a certain pick-up. That was good enough for Eve.
She gave him another Alolan greeting – now a goodbye of course – and leaned back, once more letting Lapras do most of the work.

“I just transport them. I can always hand them over. Question is if I hand it to the right people,” she replied with a musical little chuckle. At the end of the day, she figured that it didn’t matter exactly which of the builders she gave the planks to. Someone would be able to make use of them, after all. If these people wanted her to deliver it to specific places first, they would probably tell her, she figured. Not that she could tell from afar anyway. At least this one looked like he was building something.

And he even had a plan to move the wood himself. Good, good. Her interest was swiftly piqued by seeing the Ghastly, reminding her of her own. But she couldn’t tell at a glance if hers could use that move, too. Probably worth looking into, really.
Meanwhile, her Lapras assisted slightly by positioning itself well. Just far enough away from the structures to not hit them, so that she could get out again with relative ease. “Need more than that? We’re probably going to go right back for another tour.”

“That is a Jellicent. We have those at home, though some seem to have made their way to this region,” she replied, even though that had not exactly been a question for her. Still, as good an opportunity as any to change the topic. He seemed to have gone quite awkward at her reply, after all. Best to let sleeping dogs lie. And help swimming dragons out of the water?
No, that was no proverb she knew. Still, she couldn’t help but think that when a Bagon seemed to try and paddle about. Taking her attention off of him briefly, Eve scanned the sky, looking to see if there was some Brutalanda flying about. It was certainly possible that this one had fallen off when one of those had crossed the skies. Best to not get involved in that case, at least in sight of a potentially angry dragon mother.

However, none was in sight. “Lapras, help it out will you?” The gentle transport Pokemon agreed, swiftly moving to the location of the straggler and picked it up with its maw. That was a relatively gentle action by itself, and the Bagon did not fight back much. Instead, it seemed relieved to be out of the water.
Lapras moved it towards Eve and the planks. “Hello there little one. Do you want to rest in here? I can’t promise you anything beyond that, but I can keep you safe at the very least. Though I do understand if you don’t want to.” She held a ball near the Bagon’s head, allowing it to nudge the button and allow itself to be caught, if it so chose.

“You didn’t get injured from that slap either, now did you? Doesn’t make it the right thing to do, does it?” Eve already sighed inwardly. Yes, she had managed to rattle this buy with her antics. But clearly, he did not understand yet. Mayhap, he would not understand at all. That would be problematic, if nothing else.

Or, well, she could technically just ignore him. Technically. But she was not that kind of person. If she taught a lesson, she wanted it understood for sure. “This isn’t about what happened. It is about what could have happened. Your Pokemon can take the hit. That is, in a way, what they are here for. But can you? What if it bit you? Poisoned you? As a trainer, your own safety is your first priority. Simple as that.”
