taking her hand, he gets back up to his feet, ready to start snowboarding. they're already at the top of the hill so all they need to do is pivot and go.[break][break]

it's such a change from the gloom that hung heavy just before the meteor arrived. it's a nice change, one he welcomes with open arms if it means getting to spend more time with her.[break][break]

he finishes strapping up before shifting up to his knees, hopping over to her shortly after.[break][break]

danny's usual reaction to his ringing alarm is to groan, flip over, and randomly slap around until he hits the snooze button. he can't do that this time as he wasn't sleeping, so he simply rolls over and hits the snooze button on his first attempt (a rare feat).[break][break]

when he rolls back around, he smiles, remembering that he has to pretend like he had just woken up.[break][break]

"morning, morning."[break][break]

he watches her get up, fixed in place as he admires the way the morning light seems to highlight her features.[break][break]

"yeah, it really is."[break][break]

"did you sleep well?"

a shoulder shrugs. he did not take the science elective in uni.[break][break]

"you can use more, you know. i think you need it considering how red you already are."[break][break]

he is, of course, referring to how little sunscreen nagi squeezed out.

though he dons a confident persona, he's actually shitting himself because he does care what people think of him, and should he post the wrong thing on social media, he's not sure if he could handle the backlash.[break][break]

eventually, he wakes up once again to find her lying so close to him. even in his drowsy state, he thinks of how she's yet to move away, though the possibility exists that she might not have woken up yet.[break][break]

he exhales a warm breath, not quite wanting the moment to end even if it is now a new day. he has until she wakes up, maybe, so he stays where he is for now.[break][break]

actually, he shifts a little closer, then closes his eyes once again.[break][break]

his alarm rings shortly after that, likely snapping both of them out of the moment.

his time in rocket so far has not been enough to change him from being the heavy sleeper that he is. his nights are usually peaceful as he's encapsulated in his slumber, dreaming of things that he doesn't remember the next morning.[break][break]

when he wakes, he's briefly surprised to see her so close to him, still sound asleep. he blinks slowly, eyes adjusting to the dim light. he looks away at first, almost hesitant and shy to watch her, but then he gets braver, and only then, still balled up underneath his blanket does he truly understand just how lucky he is.[break][break]

things might not go anywhere between them and that's okay. for now, he has this moment, and that's enough.[break][break]

sleep takes him away again not long after.

while danny has definitely played more than enough games of pool in his lifetime, he knows he would get his ass beat again, so he concedes with a chuckle and a nod.[break][break]

and even if he does notice how she pauses, he does not dare to close the gap between them. whatever liquid courage has run out.[break][break]

instead, he smiles at her before standing back up. he circles back around to his side of the bed, turning off the lights on his way there before finally sliding into bed next to her.[break][break]

"i'm uh, looking forward to breakfast in the morning."[break][break]

after the comment, he tilts his head over that's half-buried by his pillow.[break][break]

"goodnight, nina."

naturally, she sinks the ball into his cup once again, leaving him to do whatever the cup says to do.[break][break]

thinking for a moment, danny decides on the easiest option.[break][break]

it still feels surreal, almost, to be able to feel her hands in his. how he dreamed of being able to do so for many, many nights. he'll appreciate tonight for what it is and nothing more as well.[break][break]

until the night ends, however, he'll be sure to cherish every moment of it.[break][break]

"yes, please! i believe you still owe me one."[break][break]

so, they head over to the bar, sliding into seats before he waves down the bartender.[break][break]

"do you still drink the same thing?"

woke him right up, so to speak. but it's not like he needed to be woken up anyways. her presence is more than enough to keep him in the moment.[break][break]

he chuckles, then downs a glass of water before pouring himself a refill. still kneeling at her bedside, he smiles up at her.[break][break]

"i'll beat you at pool the next time."
