"Family's Important."

The dark bush of Roman's brow bristled at the words. His dad had no right to speak on the value of family. Not to him. Not when he'd spent so long away, a distant figure in the background - spoken of but rarely seen. Anger returns, a shaken-up bottle of soda hissing underneath a plastic cap ready to explode. Roman reaches to undo the seal but stops short.

Something in the old man's apology plucks a cord on his heartstrings. Maybe it's his face, how his eyes are glossy with the hint of tears that threaten to spill but never come. Perhaps it's the hesitation to get the words out. How when they're finally spoken, they're filled with pain, the kind Roman can feel like a Beedrill's sting in his chest. Whatever the reason - the young Maher holds his tongue.

For the first time in his life, Roman does nothing but listen. Oh, how he wished he hadn't. Because what he learns is that despite the promise, despite crossing hearts and threats of Weedle pokes, CIAN MAHER is a liar.

No one in his family can be trusted.

Black shoes come to a sudden halt on the pavement as if hit by a Thunder Wave. Fingers are tight, coiled like an Arbok into Roman's palms. All that sugary, anger-filled Root Beer from the soda bottle inside his chest leaks out from the sides of the cap. There's something else mixed into the liquid. Forcing emerald greens to act like mirrored reflections of his father's eyes. A conflicted concoction of melancholy and anger.

But why? Roman asks himself. Nothing his father has said about Uncle Cian is any different than the things he's done. Roman's hurt others. Lots of kids his age and older met the end of his fists. He'd lied, stolen - so then why does this hurt?

Why did he want to cry?

"That it's a place where criminals go when they've been caught."

Where everyone said he'll end up sooner or later.

There's not a lot of time to adjust or stop himself. One second, Roman's trying to gouge out the heart of a little girl whose done nothing wrong. The next, he's not stabbing Chu-e Choi but jayden cross. His friend. His family. [break][break]

Brother.[break][break]

"What? Jayden - I..." his hands shake, tremble with anxiety and regret that quickly douse the flame behind his eyes. "No." this isn't who he wanted to hurt. "I..." [break][break]

Force. [break][break]

A tug that yanks him away and pulls the knife gripped like a vice out from Jayden's wound. The blood on his hands is all Roman can focus on. Crimson, a scarlet stain on young fingers. He drops the blade to the floor with a clatter that will echo in his mind forever. [break][break]

Pressure. [break][break]

Crushing tiny lungs and trapping the air inside. A thousand tons layered on the fragile bones of Roman's ribcage. He gasped, wheezing as the world blurred by in his peripheral. Stumble and fall. He collapsed onto his hands and knees behind boruta maher. [break][break]

"I can't." two simples words, and he unraveled like a ball of yarn. Pulled from the depths of a breaking heart, a waterfall of tears flowed from his cheeks and onto sticky red hands. "Can't..." The walls are closing in around him. Tightening, squeezing harder on his heart and lungs. [break][break]

"Breathe." [break][break]

He deserved this. All of it. For hurting jayden cross. The one person who'd been open and honest with him. Jayden noticed him without the anger and the violence. And Roman stabbed him.

Obstacles. That's all any of these people were, and they only made the anger worse. [break][break]

The two heats collide when Eris meets Roman's eye. Take the insult back? As if he'd give her the satisfaction. The only thing Eris does is show him her hand by demanding Roman retract his words. [break][break]

Her heart is out in the open for him to crush.[break][break]

"Hey Eris..."[break][break]

Smiling, sneering, Roman's all too happy to find Chu-e Choi sliding between them. It's less thought and more impulse that fuels his actions. A pocket knife stolen on the playground and kept with him always is pulled from his pocket. Spring loaded and opened at the press of a button, the blade shines in the moonlight.[break][break]

Chu-e Choi tries to warn him. Bless the angry Mankey with knowledge hard earned throughout his years. That anger, that violence won't solve the problem or bring him closure.[break][break]

Roman doesn't listen.[break][break]

"Fuck you."[break][break]

He charges, lunges forward to stab Chu-e in the stomach.[break][break]

The first act down a dark and dangerous path. [break][break]

In a split second, before the blade can make contact, Roman has a fleeting thought. [break][break]

Would boruta maher be disappointed in him?

What's wrong with him? Roman scowled. He didn't fucking know, and that's the problem. [break][break]

All he wanted was to get rid of this anger. It's forever a hair-trigger, a short-fused stick of dynamite that explodes at the slightest touch. Deep down, he hates it, but Roman knows that he needs it. Without the rage and the violence, no one listened or paid attention. [break][break]

Roman can feel the eyes on him now. Sénon Game judging from a distance. Chu-e Choi stampeding over to put a stop to the sudden madness. Even his father, boruta maher, will see him now. All because of the rage that blew into a storm.[break][break]

The tangled mess he made of Eris's hair is released in the knick of time. Allowing Roman to narrowly avoid getting himself kicked in the land down under. Emerald hues take the form of daggers to spare Chu-e a cutting glance. Behind the piercing windows, the Beast would see only fire, only Roman's anger that burns, a wild inferno of green refusing to smother and meet his demand. [break][break]

A Mankey in a suit had nothing on Roman. Primeape wouldn't even compare. [break][break]

"Fuck off, shitface. This doesn't concern you." [break][break]

His words come fast but nowhere near as quick as the action he takes. The fist moves like a bullet. Not aimed toward the face or gut, no people expect you to hit them there. Roman's been in enough fights, hurt enough people, to know that's where they always strike. He goes for Eris Halla's kidney. Stepping to the left (or whatever side Chu-e isn't on), he transfers his weight and attempts to throw her arm back and out of the way to deliver the punch. [break][break]

It's not a light blow either; Roman packs it full of everything he can muster.[break][break]

His love, his anger, and all of his sorrow.

Roman doesn't stop despite the cutting bark of his father's voice. [break][break]

Po does. He recognizes an order from someone more demanding than the little boy that is his master. Still, he's quick to correct his behavior. Nipping at the heels of the brewing storm that is Roman Maher.[break][break]

It doesn't take much looking for Roman to find who he's looking for. The back of Eris Halla's stupid head stood out. Seething a quiet fury, he makes his way over without a word. Ignoring the two adults alongside her. [break][break]

Why is he so angry? Was the sight of boruta maher with that woman (Emma Wolfe) really that irritating? Maybe. Maybe it brings to mind why he's here with her and not Roman's mother. [break][break]

Why she mattered more than him.[break][break]

Roman's on Eris in the blink of an eye, silent footsteps masking his approach. He channels all the rage burning in his chest into his hands. They lash out, reaching for the back of Eris's hair, fingers attempting to entangle and tighten to yank her back and into his knee. [break][break]

Roman should have done this when they met. When she'd come up to him earlier. Without provocation, she taunted and billeted him in front of his father. [break][break]

Time to get even.

A fuckton of stuff went on in such a short time frame. Roman doesn't have the attention spam to react to it all. Nor did he really care to if he's honest. The only thing that mattered to him was his father and how he'd react. [break][break]

The no he'd given so bluntly sours the young boy's lips. "No? That's - " interrupted by the question of his uncles. His frown deepened, and the Rockruff by his side growled. [break][break]

Sénon Game interjected himself before anything could happen. Offering up a Poke Ball that Roman takes it. Because who turned down free stuff? He does it with the same smug and shitty little manner he's handled everything in his life so far. [break][break]

"Buzz off, Raggedy Anne - I'm trying talk to my dad." [break][break]

He lets Eris Halla have her comments. She's there and gone before he's got a chance to say anything clever, but he'll get her later. [break][break]

Cian arrived shortly after the little girl left. [break][break]

To be honest, Roman wants to yell at him too. He glares at him, wishing he had that Weedle to joust into his eye. Because Uncle Cian did lie. According to his dad, anyway, about being a good person. But the want to hurt his dad supersedes anything else. So, his features soften - only temporarily. [break][break]

"Hi Uncle Cian." he straightened the uncomfortable tie. "I hate it." he grumbled and then looked back to his father. "I'll leave you and your ugly girlfriend alone." he stuck his tongue out at Emma Wolfe and, of all things, spit on boruta maher's shoes before storming off. [break][break]

Where the hell was Eris Halla? He wanted to vent some frustrations by kicking her in the butt.

Of everyone from Roman's list of people, it's the one he least wanted to see that crossed his path. Emerald greens find his father and Emma Wolfe shortly into his walk around the ballroom. Neither has noticed him quite yet. Either too preoccupied with each other or his height kept him hidden amongst the legs of people. [break][break]

Whatever the reason, Roman finds himself making a beeline for them. A mixture of anger, sadness, and some other twisted emotions he's too young to understand beating in his heart. [break][break]

"Co-worker?" the tiny terror injected himself into the conversation abruptly. "You're looking for co-workers instead of me now?" pain tinges the boy's vocals, but he doesn't look the slightest bit hurt. [break][break]

Roman points a finger to Emma Wolfe. [break][break]

"Is she your co-worker?"

This suit is the most uncomfortable thing he's ever worn. Damn thing clung to his body and felt like it might tear at the slightest movement. Maybe that was just him being dramatic. Either way, wearing the suit didn't feel like him. [break][break]

Roman fiddled with the tie that felt like a noose around his neck. He couldn't understand why adults had to be so strict about what people wore? It didn't make any sense. Wouldn't you much rather have people be comfortable? [break][break]

Roman sighed. [break][break]

"Whatever." [break][break]

He'd only be here for a little bit anyway. Long enough to stir up trouble for all the people who'd thought it be fun to leave him stranded at home. Home. Did he even have one of those anymore? [break][break]

"Let's see if we can find Uncle Cian or Big Bro Jayden." [break][break]

They were adults who went to these types of things, weren't they? Roman had seen jayden cross getting ready for something at his house. Judging by the way he was dressed, this had to be it. [break][break]

Po barked, agreeing with Roman's plan. The two then set off to find their targets. A roll of the dice on who they'd spot first. [break][break]

Shit, did his dad boruta maher go to these types of parties? That thought raced his heart, but he kept going. Rudely pushing past anyone in his way during his search.

He cast an exaggerated, almost sarcastic gaze along the width of the room. Empty of anything remotely entertaining for child to do. The answer to Jayden's question should be obvious.

All Roman had was time. Time to think, to question himself and the choice he'd made. Regret rarely an answer that came when he did.

"Yeah, why?"

Emerald greens focused on the man. The sharp edge that often lined them dulled. Despite his unexplained disappearances for long lengths of time, Roman found Jayden's presence to be oddly comforting. Warming, almost, as if he filled a vacant space carved by boruta maher's absence.

"Did you wanna go somewhere?"

Excitment is hard for him to hide.
