Even as his Ninetales barks out of excitement and gives him the puppy dog eyes, he can feel a pang of regret surging through his body as he spies the manmade geysers up ahead. Forget trying to make it past this field, he feels like he might just die if he takes a wrong step.

Yuna wraps a tail around his arm, casually leading him through the minefield and weaving past the waters with ease. She only ever stops to make sure that he's actually following her lead, giving him an eye roll when he gives her that look that begs for this to be over.

The climb is a little less eventful than he expects it to be, a weak sigh echoing in his chest as Yuna takes the lead once more. Moving platforms? Timing his jumps and being able to withstand all kinds of forces? He can't say he wasn't expecting something like this but damn, he really wasn't expecting to get stumped like this.

Ninetales clears the first few platforms with ease, glancing back over her shoulder and yelping at him to keep up.

Appletun so angry it literally burns itself alive - Catch that as the headline news any day.

Watching as Yuna runs back to him and promptly curls herself around his legs, Lykaios struggles to make a decision. And yet, he can't help himself in the end, walking up to Adrian and grabbing his hand to place some berries in it.

"Tell it that I'm sorry for ruining its meal. I hope it'll be okay."
[break][break]
Is it to ease his conscience? Or maybe it's simply to remind the prideful Ninetales to respect her opponents. Either way, he hopes that Adrian will be open-minded enough to accept it. And if he isn't, he can probably toss those berries away once they're out of sight.

He's met his fair share of triggered Snorlaxs but he can't say he's run into enraged Appletuns before. As the Appletun approaches his Ninetales, he swears that he can feel the earth trembling, the atmospheric temperature raising by at least 2 degrees.

Yuna panics just slightly, gathering heat once more as she prepares to burn her opponent. But just as it stands before her, the Appletun fucking pops off, punching her right in the face and throwing her right off balance. Even then, she can't help but mald at the fact that it's all due to some berries, that the attention it's giving her right now is only due to the fact that she burnt its food.

She barks, unleashing a wave of Fire that Blasts it back.

Screw these berries! It doesn't even know if these berries taste better roasted!!

A mud field. To be greeted by such a challenge at the first turn makes Lykaios wonder if the worst is kept for last.

Leaping for the ropes, Lykaios is readily able to clear the gap, swinging between the ropes with relative ease as his Ninetales follows from below. As she dries the mud out with a trailing Flamethrower, she creates a path just for herself and crosses without breaking a sweat.

But just as they reach the end, they're met by a steep and rocky ramp, one that rumbles with every step. At the very top, sit two Snorlaxs, their maws opened wide as they yawn. With a signal from the facilitator, the two giants begin to move, causing the earth to tremble and quake.

"Stick behind me." He sighs, beginning the ascent with caution in mind. Boulders, beach balls, a barrage of water guns? Who knows what kind of things their supervisors can think of throwing at them while they climb?

For a moment, Lykaios can't help but feel a sense of admiration for this Appletun's resilience. To pursue the delicacy that it loved, to be so enchanted by the taste that it would happily chase after its delusions.

He asks, but he feels as if he should already know the answer. As his Ninetales turns her attention to the Appletun and prepares to set it ablaze, she is stopped by a whistle and directed towards the berries instead. They're grown from her vitality and to stop it from blossoming, she needs to burn it by its roots. The heat pools in her mouth, a raging Inferno dancing along the web and reducing the Appletun's dream to ashes.

So he was a person of few words too. Good for him, a less talkative opponent means having less to think about whilst running the course. Taking his spot at the starting line, Lykaios doesn't quite take this to be a competition between him and Razz but rather a test to see how far he's slipped. And so it seems that Yuna has the same idea, huffing lightly as she bounces on her tip toes.

As soon as the whistle is blown, the Ninetales is off, using her Extrasensory perception to scout the layout ahead as her trainer follows suit.

Yuna barely flinches as the Appletun approaches, her tails lashing out behind her as she circles around the dragon to keep a distance. Her gaze flicks between her opponent and her trainer, a cunning mind cycling through all her options and catching the signals that Lykaios slips her.

An Appletun... He's neither at an advantage nor a disadvantage with this matchup. So it all comes down to whether Yuna is ready to outperform her opponent. As the seeds embed themselves in her fur and she yowls in discomfort, the Ninetales gathers heat and faces the dragon, spewing a Flamethrower in response.

He doesn't know how he's gotten himself roped into this but here he is anyways. Gone are his duties of patrolling the tournament grounds, handed off to some other ranger so that he can be dragged for this little ranger tournament he has no real interest in.

It's an unfortunate matchup skewed by their typings. Lykaios isn't one to overlook that fact, but he doesn't quite voice it before Yuna, allowing her to revel in her hard-earned victory.

"Lykaios." The introductions are kept as brief as possible, his social inexperience kicking in as he calls upon his Ninetales. "Just a single battle, probably. A quick match."

The vixen preens and draws herself to her full height, her tails gracefully swaying in the wind as she follows after her trainer. She's won one match thus far and simply wishes to keep the ball rolling for as long as possible. A hit and a miss. Lykaios can hear his Ninetails faltering at the failed attack, crying out as a Dazzling Gleam burns her. But all they need is a little more to clinch the win and he doesn't wish for all her efforts to go to waste.

Whistling to catch her attention, Lykaios makes a noise similar to a bird's cooing.

As she gathers heat for one last attack, Yuna widens her stance, blowing the fire in all directions and consuming the arena in a hell-like Inferno.
